I COMPLETELY agree with Addict about Zelda. Breath and Tears are good GAMES but so so Zeldas for me. Tears improved on everything to me but still wasn't what I wanted. Dungeons are mediocre and I wasn't entirely tired of the old Zelda formula. I like going in a dungeon, seeing things I can't interact with, beating a mini boss/finding a chest, get new item/tool, tool is used to kill dungeon boss. The Zelda formula was good, just like the MegaMan formula. If it's executed well, I never get sick of it.

The Shroud comments are really silly since multiplayer or games with multiplayer functions have won GOTY 4 times at The Game Awards. Sure, Overwatch is the only competitive one, but can’t say they haven’t had a seat at the table.

Cog, as a white metal head, I couldn’t agree with you more about your stand down! South of Midnight not even getting a nomination is downright absurd. The game itself was fine, I enjoyed the story and animation quite a bit, the combat was lacking, but that music was on a completely different level from almost every other game released this year.

Props to Addict on this one. Surprised Brad says Arc Raiders deserves a GOTY nod. Doesn’t do anything special imo. Still surprised it sold 4M.

I am so surprised by the love for Outer Worlds 2. I loved the first game and New Vegas is one of my favourite games of all time but I still went into OW2 skeptical because I haven’t enjoyed an obsidian game since OW1. It sounds hyperbolic but I think this is the worst RPG I’ve played this generation by a long shot. The world, exploration, writing and characters are so bad and uninteresting to me that I’ve ended up trading it back in after the 4th large area. I’m now glad they’re not doing a new fallout because after this I don’t think they have the chops to make it interesting enough to be memorable.

TOTK sold me on the new style. I didn't like BOTW that much. However, I agree that I miss the old dungeons. A big open world like TOTK with 6-9 classic style dungeons would be so cool.

Exactly. Just merge the two styles and we have the ultimate Zelda. Well almost. I feel like the combat could use an update. Not sure what would fit though. Link is doing all types of flashy shit in the Warrior games that I wouldn't mind in the main series. I know some people would hate it, but if it had Devil May Cry combat but toned down a little. I'm sick of the standard 3 hit slash/stab combo. Windwaker and Twilight started giving Link more moves but then dropped it. Probably won't see another mainline game for a while so no point in worrying now.

Outer worlds 2 is AA, it’s just unfortunate they’re charging AAA prices. This is a $50 game all day.

It has incredible enemy design - they used machine learning to teach the large spider-like bots to navigate any complex terrain, and to train the AI of the drones. I've never seen smarter or more capable AI in any game. They're entirely physics based, blow off a leg or a thruster and they attempt to keep moving and stabilize. They don't just have preset animations for things, instead they are fully in the world and reactive. It has a unique and striking setting, amazing audio design, a brilliant soundtrack, large amount of content. I think it does a lot special. The least special part is that it's an extraction game.
