ARC Raiders has blown up since launch, continually breaking its peak player count on Steam. While it's not the first extraction shooter by a long shot, it's clearly the first one to truly break into the mainstream. So, is it any good? Join me (Dustin), Brad, Ben, and Lockmort to discuss!

I think a really cool augment would be one that sacrifices your safe pocket for a booby trap, so when you downed you have the option to blow up your corpse instead of surrender to kill your killer

Alex

Nice to hear Lock again!

Great episode, the section on blueprints gave me PTSD I’ve gotten the jolt mine blueprints like 4 times and barely any others. Would love to see some improvements to the blueprints like a dupe protection especially considering how rare they are.

My friends and I who have mainly played on console forever have been begging for an extraction shooter with controller support that isn’t Vigor for like 5 years. (Great game btw). What’s funny is if Arc Raiders releases a year from now, I think it’s DOA. I’m betting there 5 extraction shooters that enter(CoDs, Battlefields, Fortnites, FarCrys, PUBG black budget, Marathon) by the end of 2026. The shooting isn’t impressive by any means but Embark still beat all these other loser studios to market so fuck em.

I posted this on the youtube video as well , sorry if its a double read, royal you. Purely curious question here , i promise. Is the idea of this game just collecting loot , leaving with it and coming back with slightly better stuff each time while interacting with friends/randoms ? Thats the only “objective” ?

Rick & Lockmorty, because Lockmort is totally a big fan you can hear it in all his humour. He’d scream in a Big Suzie’s.

The most important objective of the game for me has been that it’s fun. Looks good, feels good and has awesome encounters that can only happen in a PvPvE game. But the main “objective” would actually be leveling up your work benches/traders with resources. Like most video games it’s about number goes up.

Shout out to Vigor, a little rough around the edges but gets no love as a console friendly extraction shooter

Also I’d disagree with the shooting in Arc not being impressive, other than the obvious d-sync issues I actually think the guns and shooting feel fantastic (and are more than good enough to take on the AI and other raiders). What would be impressive in your book?

For the record it’s my game of the year. To think a game like overwatch gets nominated and wins GOTY IN 2015 and this gets snubbed altogether…. Shiiiiiit. I think the game’s movement has a similar problem a game like last of us or re4 remake have. The beginning of sprinting. That little half a second sluggish animation of getting into sprint doesn’t line up with your input. This is a sci-fi video game. ^This and I think they need to be a little more lenient with stamina. The impressive parts about the game for me is #1: the aesthetic. Setting is sick. Mixture of Mad Max Fury Road and Oblivion(movie not game). Even the inside of facilities have a dead space feel to them. #2: Reliance on pleasing visual feedback for shooting rather than hit markers. Cracking a guys shields with a Ferro 100 yards off is 👌. #3: the large scale ai enemies that remind you of helldivers 2 only possible on these newer consoles. #4: the game being ready to go right out of the gate. Few glitches, clean ui even though some QoL is needed in the workshops and inventory management. Hopefully they let you just create a template for what you want to go on a raid with and let you auto build for that and populate your loadout. Would save a lot of time.

It's actually surprising that Fortnite doesn't have an extraction mode yet
