Brad- heavy music: Polaris, Erra, Spiritbox, Currents, August Burns Red. Those are my current top 5

Jacob R.

Brad, listen to Show Me the Body. I’d start with their record Dog Whistle. Drought is a good intro single. Sludgy NYC experimental hardcore with noise + hip hop influence.

Dakota Brown

Metalcore recommendations of bands and then songs by the band- Knocked Loose- suffocate, forget your name and Slaughterhouse Invent Animate- shade astray, without a whisper and cloud cascade Johnny booth- full tilt, bright future and asymmetrical The Callous Daoboys- Full Guidance Moon, Tears on Lambo Leather and Pushing the Pink Envelope

Fat Gotenks

Brad check out Underoath’s newest album The Place After This One

Jannik Rafael Andersen

Brad, Blood Incantation and their Absolute Elsewhere album is where it’s at! My favorite album from last year. Spiritual Sound by Agriculture is also worth a listen.

Steven S.

Totally agree with Colin and Brad about using the stick for movement instead of the d-pad, especially since there are enemies that are low to the ground and you have to thrust your spear at a 45 degree angle downward.

Dead Tired

Brad, music recommendations. Periphery - Djenty, experimental and technical. The song Zagreus is really great and was inspired by the game Hades. Andromida - Instrumental, mixing heavy guitar riffs with industrial electronic sound. Think Doom 2016. Great workout music.

IronLion44

To be clear! My wife is a gamer. She is not requesting that I put all my consoles and PC in a separate room. I mainly just want a space for my PC and the ability to also dock my switch at that same monitor for those times where she is using the living room TV and I don’t feel like playing handheld. Thanks for reading my inquiry and it’s been decided. The kids will share a room for 10 years. I also want to add. It’s so crazy on a cosmic level that you brought up Dowton Abby, because I told my wife to watch that show based on Colin’s continuous praise of it. She became obsessed with it and consumed it all within a few weeks.

Frank

Disagree with Colin’s take on highguard. Don’t see the issue with saying make a better product. Thinking that having 100k players just on PC and not being able to keep them bc a big chunk of them were there for bad intentions doesn’t seem true. If it had the sauce it would have stuck.

IronLion44

The new home we bought is under Melrose tax since it’s in a new community in Orange County. It would make your heads spin if you knew how much we pay in property taxes, HOA, and homeowners insurance. I know Colin loves all of those things.

Brian Borlaug

Brad, Check out Bilmuri for a crazy weird mix of metal and country music. Not nearly as heavy as other bands, but definitely a breath of fresh air and he has a new album dropping in a couple months and will be on tour!

i_wish_you_wood

Please please no more talk about people complaining about things

Andy Carroll

Brad. For some Melodic hardcore/punk - please check out A Wilhelm Scream. Crazy good band and they have a new record out at the end of the month.

I played about 10 hours of High Guard. As a huge Apex player even to this day I owed it to them to try it. The game was fine but it is super bare bones. There is just not much to keep you playing for long. Which is why they scrambled to get that 5v5 mode out which came with its own problems since the game was designed for 3v3. Also after reading what the developers said after the layoffs the game sounds like its another victim of toxic positivity. Everyone who they let play it including Geoff was glazing it and gassing up the developers. They should hire the big FPS streamers for a few months and really grind down these games because they are the taste makers. Marathon seems like they are doing just that and the narrative is shifting for them.

Anthony Palerino

Tried Silksong with the D pad but I just couldn’t do it. Even shovel knight I prefer the stick. I understand how the d pad would likely be better, but it just feels worse to me. Similarly, playing a shooter with a mouse and keyboard is objectively better, but some like the feel of the gamepad. Input options are always awesome.

IronLion44

Majoras Mask is my favorite Zelda as well. Got it Christmas morning when I was 7.

Tristan Kimball

Glad you guys brought up how insane it is that god of war doesn’t work on the dpad. They should have made it work, really turned me off from the game. Still not sure how i feel about the game overall, haven’t made it far in.

KYisLife

Colin, As a kid (born in Dec ‘87), I was content with an N64 and Gameboy Color. Was not interested or mature enough for PS1 too.

Thebard6

Brad! Her Last Sight and Dysmn are some great newer artists that I fuck with personally!

Danio

Sons of Sparta is a disgrace. There are like 2000 random 2D metroidvanias on steam that look and play better and most of them are cheaper. Do they really not care about their biggest ip?

we are all dogs locked in god's hot car

Holy hell I did not expect to see absolute immaculate taste in the comment section today but here it is 🔥 Revocation fuckin rules, The Outer Ones is my favorite as well. I enjoy the first 3 but like you said, S/T onward is just banger after banger

Perfectly Straight Rainbow

Brad, I dunno how heavy you’re wanting but Darko US or Chelsea Grin are great modern Deathcore bands

Matthew Cooper

I was never going to play HighGuard, because it's just not my type of game. But I never understood having any hype for it; as soon as I saw the reveal trailer, it just looked totally bland and generic. Just a totally unremarkable game that looks like countless other games I've seen. And yeah, based on what the developers said, toxic positivity played a major role in it's release. Based on how bare bones the game is, how buggy I've heard the experience is, and how quickly most of the studio got laid off, it seems like the game only released when it did because the studio was running out of money. It needed more time to add some flare and flush it out more.

Dante B

No game makes me feel dumber than Majora’s Mask. I’ve finished nearly every main line Zelda game, and I just never know what this game is asking me to do. It’s just never clicked.

Jason Rose

There needs to be more collective information about having kids. 35 isn’t young for a woman to have children. 36 and beyond is considered a “geriatric pregnancy.” Women are always shocked to find this out, but it’s the accurate term. Yes, women are having children older, but there is a reason more and more people are having trouble having children. Women are older and men’s sperm counts are lower. I say that to say this: no, you don’t have lots of time and this is from someone who had his first kid at 39 and my wife was 35. If you have the means and desire, do it now, trust me, you’ll regret not doing it beforehand. The frustration that comes from it not working, even in the short term, is immense. Also, the PSP lineup of games absolutely crushes the Vita’s, but the Vita hardware is superior.

Jason Rose

If it was a $15 dollar game I’d get it, but the price range it’s in put it against games like Shinobi Art of Vengeance and Prince of Persia Lost Crown, both objectively better and far more beautiful games. Son of Sparta is ugly and I love/grew up with pixel art games. More importantly; we have a prequel to the Greek games and that exists on the PSP, which is ALSO a vastly superior playing and better looking game.

Jason Rose

Dude, put your kids together. I have the room and my wife and I just decided to put our 5 and 3 year old in the same room while we could. Best decision we could make. It’s only short term, but they’ll build incredible bonds, have amazing conversations that you can be privy to due to today’s camera technology and it’s just overall rewarding. Finish your basement and get your gaming space that way when feasible. Just advice from one gaming dad to another.

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

The game was bound to fail. I guess Colin is just upset at how it failed...? It goes without saying that individual developers shouldn't be harassed, obviously. But I really can't fault peoples reaction to the trailer. A bigger issue with High Guards failure is the way developers and journalists are blaming the gamers. Almost 100k people tried it and were vindicated. You guys made a shitty game and people didn't want to play or pay for your shitty game... sorry...

GunMetalJackal

Colin's hate boner for Switch feels so forced bordering on cope. I'd be more receptive to his criticism if he somewhat knew the system and what its capable of. They got Star Wars Outlaws running pretty well with raytracing for a portable system somewhere in between a PS4 pro and a series S and also AC Shadows and Cyberpunk, yeah yeah its a 6 year old game but its still impressive. Not to mention the FF 7 remakes.

Publix Chicken tender sub

My son move out of the house at 18. He went to the air force. It only took a few weeks for me to convert his room into my game room 😂🔥

Jason Rose

Confirmed as a Canadian, it’s an insulting price just based on comparable games on the market. I can afford everything but seeing what is on sale at $40 versus this and it’s obvious that it’s not worth the ask. It’s subjective ultimately though.

Matthew Cooper

It's nuts to think there's some way the game wouldn't have failed. Geoff spotlighting it like he did was the only reason it had anyone even try it out. There's no excuse for having 100K concurrents on Steam alone and losing all your players in a matter of days. The game was bad. And the inability of the developers (and many others) to accept that reveals their high levels of entitlement and arrogance. It doesn't matter what they were told during development; they put out a game, hundreds of thousands tried it, and everyone rejected it and moved on. HighGuard was a bad game. It's nobody's fault the game failed other than the people who made it. Have some dignity, have some humility and accept reality.

rmcquade19

I think you’re highest praise containing the words “pretty well” is the nail in the coffin. It’s not that the Switch 2 is bad, it’s that there’s readily a console experience that is better. And the Portal closes that portable gap enough to not be invested in the ecosystem

Hammertime44

Colin’s opinion on the Sony live service push is getting more and more annoying. He says thing like “Sony needs these live service games to exist” and “Online narrative is ruining these games chances of being successful” but then when he is asked if he is going to play one of these games he says “no live service games are not for me”. Is that not how a massive part of the Sony consumer base also feels? It’s completely hypocritical to say that Sony needs live service and then show zero support by refusing to play said live service games.

Frank G.

Oh its been severely forced since switch 1. He graduated remember. What's an even bigger trip is the stigma that nintendo switch or nintendo players in general only like kid games or play Mario and Pokémon. Bitch nintendos been here since the 80s a d what they wholeheartedly understand, is gaming. Its not all fucken graphics. I miss Gene already.

Frank G.

The more and more I look at it the less desire I have to play it. And im a huge GOW fan, just looks mid.

Craig Carter

Might get some flack for my answer but Poppy really fills that "octanecore" metalcore genre real good. Her albums I Disagree, Negative Spaces, and Empty Hands are reallllllyyyyy fuckin good.

Lunar Tear

Majora's Mask is my favorite game of all time. Gotta chime in every time it comes up. I prefer the original over the 3D version, but both are awesome.

Danio

I really regret buying it. If the return policy on PSN was as good as on steam I believe Sons of Sparta would be one of the most returned games this year.

Disgruntled Citizen

Disgruntled Citizen

Nah man poppy slaps. Ill admit it. Her turn the last two albums is great to listen to.

Black Detective in Dexter

He won't play live service games............unless it's a Horizon live service game.

Black Detective in Dexter

Colin doesn't play live service multi player shooters...but he can speak with absolute authority about why they succeed or fail...

Jordan Moyer

Not sure how heavy you get with music, but check out Netherwalker. They’re fuckin sick, dudes in the comments, you check em out too.

Jeffry311

Brad, I gotta rep my hometown boys Story of the Year. They just put out a new album A.R.S.O.N.

Pacoflipper

Colin and we the listeners are not the large portion of Sony’s consumer base and he says that over and over. We are a small dedicated group the vast majority of income made by Sony is by casual players that play Fortnite, sports games or COD.

Mark V

Metalcore bands- Wage War, Currents, Like Moths to Flame, Inertia, Electric Callboy ( Euro dance/ Metalcore), Secrets ( new discography heavier), Issues ( Not really heavy, but had to selfishly recommend favorite band. R&B/Hip-Hop/Pop/ Metalcore) Deathcore- Lorna shore, Shadow of Intent

Big Booty Latinas Can Stay

I love how Colin isn’t sure he has autism with the types of games he’s obsessed with.

Father Zachary Hale Cumsock

It's one thing to acknowledge that someone is good for business and sustainability but not what you want personally. I don't play multiplayer, either, but does that mean I think they shouldn't exist/be made? That'd be delusional. You don't have to be the target audience to know that modern AAA companies need some live service to stay afloat

Big Booty Latinas Can Stay

The truth that can’t be said is Colin doesn’t want kids because he’ll never change his lifestyle and so he’s using this Micah bit as a bogus excuse.

Jason Rose

I don’t think it’s hypocritical at all. You can prefer games and then cover the industry and realize the realities of it in an objective sense. These games change companies lives, literally, they’re 2/3rds of the industry sadly. Personally I hate it and game a lot like Colin, but they’re going to keep coming and it’s obvious why: money.

Wall bouncing in WW1

I wonder if Colin could get an interview with the Frontmission publisher. Probably not would be cool though

PairOfShuse

Yo Brad if you don’t mind Japanese bands here are a good mix of some interesting heavy ones 1. Dir en Grey - Dum Spiro Spero 2. Jiluka - Watch the music videos for Venom and Black 3. Beartooth - this is an American bands but listen to either the album Disgusting or The Surface 4. Maximum The Hormone - tons of fun heavy songs that are a mix of metal and punk. Watch the music video for Alien. 5. Bad Omens - Finding God Before God Finds Me. First song on the album isn’t very heavy but the rest of the album is great 6. Wintersun - Time 1. Awesome Nordic band

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

I haven't played it but I'm not really sure what makes it god of war other than the title and the name of the kid is Kratos? I wouldn't be surprised if it was a random game was called Spartan Quest and they just renamed it to God Of War.

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

There are reports the game had like over 1 million downloads across all platforms. Most developers would kill for that many eyes on their game. Even with that they can't find a reasonable amount of people to stick with it. It was an astronomical failure.

Black Detective in Dexter

Colin: "I hope they don't mess with Far Cry too much". Colin, my dude, they already messed with it! How do you not see the massive downgrade that 6 is compared to 3, 4, and 5. Even Primal! 6 added gear tied to skills. Ammo types. Level gated zones. It basically turned a great single player shooter into some weird live service single player hybrid. How do you not see these changes? How? How can it be? I haven't even scratched the surface of all the issues with 6. Far Cry fans do not consider 6 to be a true Far Cry experience. It's more like a first person Just Cause game. You can have fun with the game, sure, that's your prerogative. But how fo you not see the differences between 6 and the previous entries? Please explain it to me!

hopscotchington

Women are born with the eggs they have for life. Many people don't seem to think about this. A 35 yr old woman has had her eggs for that many years and lost over 90% of them as well. Wish all the best of course, I'm glad we had ours somewhat younger.

Josephine

Looks terrible and it was shadow dropped for a reason. It’s sitting at a 66 metacritic. Complete IP mismanagement. And with the news of bluepoint shutting down I just need to realize my Sony is dead.

Austin Perigen

Dealer Bilmuri Kublai Khan TX Counterparts ERRA Invent Animate

Glen Yelenovic

Sort it out Colin. 10 mins into the show and you need to use the bathroom?! Tactical wee before the show starts recording

Glen Yelenovic

My son would say Donker Nash instead of Don Carnage

Big Booty Latinas Can Stay

My wife and I just had our first after trying for 8 years. I’m 37 and she’s 38. Colin needs to sack up, leave his childhood behind, and become a man before it’s too late. Staying in your house and playing video games until you die is not a pretty picture and I doubt Micah will be happy watching Colin play Mega Man in his 50’s and 60’s while pretending having a family wouldn’t have been better.

Glen Yelenovic

Did Colin just say he only has 1 controller?!

The Incredible Shulk

I am enjoying Lovish on Switch, but i am having a lot of difficulties with the controls. Jump is on the A button, and i cant find a way to remap it. I need jump to be on B for 2D games. My jump button muscle memory keeps screwing me up

Jason Rose

It’s been in the works for a few years so it wasn’t repurposed, but you’re right. The most frequent critique I hear is if the character wasn’t Kratos most would not be interest at all as it doesn’t feel like God of War at all. It also doesn’t play or look very good either.

Patrick Treanor

Brad - heavy music recommendation. Chevelle. Most consistent metal bad over the past 20 years.

Doomrider

Brad listen to Sleep Token!!!!

Ryan

Colin loves the ‘back in my day’ stance specifically about game prices and yeah that literally might be true but if you just factor in today’s economy/job landscape/ Buying power/inflation it probably costs roughly the same as a $150 NES game. I know that’s just vibenomics but I am 1000% sure I’m not alone on this.

Bailey Callis

Am I crazy, I find it so much easier to play 2D games with a stick, I like being able to control the speed. I'm sure it's because these guys are older and grew up before we even had sticks

MISZCZOGRZMOT

Brad, you can check out Enter Shikari - it's not a new band by any means, but you might not've heard them. Tracks like Radiate, Last garrison, Sorry you're not a winner, Mothership are bangers. If you need something heavy-heavy the mathematical rhytm of Fear Factory always keeps the blood pumping, and their newest albums were pretty good

C

Am I the only person who never uses the D pad and wouldn’t want to for a metroidvania? Stick all the way, so much more flexibility with it.

Gal Sharpton

We put our kids in the same room. Great decision
