Hey!Last fall, I approached our resident European Lockmort with an idea: What if Dagan and I revived KnockBack, but emphasized a proper video edit that gives our beloved show a better chance to find a new audience on YouTube? Dagan was down and Lock loved the idea, so we decided that in early 2026, we'd execute on our plan. (Perhaps we would've done so earlier, but the holidays are already crazy for our production pipeline.) For some reason, the 1990 TMNT film was the target I identified in my mind. Probably because we both love it, and I knew it would be a blast to talk about (turns out I was right).

The result is what we're at least preliminarily calling Super KnockBack, an enhanced version of our humble podcast that tries to play more into a watchable video format. For audio listeners, nothing changes -- this first episode of Super KnockBack is also episode 288 of KnockBack -- but for those looking for a little video flair, we hope that this new offering will entice you beyond watching the two of us talking.

I will admit (and I'm sure Lock agrees): This was far more annoying than we had anticipated, and in hindsight, I probably chose the wrong product with which to experiment with. Indeed, we were hoping to get this out on Super Bowl Sunday, with the next Sunday ultimately settling into our final goal. But when Lock would upload a new edit, we'd get copyright notices left, right, and center. Ultimately, we needed to buy more time, as he had to get rid of a lot of the in-motion video in lieu of screenshots, which is not at all what we had envisioned. But it's necessary for us to pass YouTube's checks, keep the video monetized, and make it a product that will create some sort of return for us. (I'd love to know how other channels get away with using such copious footage, when we were barely able to use any. It's all within the realm of fair use, and yet I don't want to fuck around with YouTube's rules, as I'm sure you all understand.)

Dagan is busy, and so am I, so we don't know when we'll do another one. However, we'd like to ultimately fall into a monthly-ish cadence with new releases, contingent (of course) on your feedback. Do you like the idea of Super KnockBack? How did you enjoy the first episode? Should we do more? All of this -- and more! -- will be highly relevant to us as we sort out what's next.

But in reality, it's just good to have Dagan back in the co-host chair to talk about something we truly love. I hope you agree! So, keep your feedback coming, let us know what we got right and wrong with our approach, and we'll hopefully see you next time for another episode in the weeks and months to come.

With love, -Colin

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 Film) | Super Knockback, Episode 1

Surprise! Today, Dagan and I (Colin) gather for the first time in nearly a year for a brand new episode of KnockBack, this one dedicated to the 1990 live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. There's no doubt that TMNT is still relevant and present today, but decades ago, it was at its cultural zenith on the back of a humble series of graphic novels, a smash-hit cartoon series, and one of the most famous toy lines of all-time. The TMNT movie really had no right to be good, and yet, it's somehow great. And we're eager to talk about it. So come join us in the sewers for a little ninjitsu in New York City, won't you?

Hi, I have a lot of experience with editing videos like this. What you need to do is follow the unspoken 6 second rule. You can use any footage but it must never go longer than 6 seconds or else the copyright claim scan will detect it as infringement. The best method is 6 second segments rapidly cut from various scenes stitched together. It would also help if you space them out with using still frames or splice footage of just the two of you talking in between. Hope that helps!

Matthew Major

Fantastic!!! Thank you both so much you are the greatest Brothers in podcasting!! Let’s get more going when Degan can!!!

Luke Tucker

Thank you Col & Dagster for continuing to bring us KnockBack! Never give it up, the best podcast ever for my money. Haven’t finished the ep so apologies if it was mentioned, but if not? There is a book (also available on Audible) from 2019 called “Teenage Ninja to Mutant Turtle” by Kenn Scott, who was the guy in the suit stunt man for Raph. Gives first hand accounts of working on the first two movies. Stuff like working with the stunt coordinator, who so happened to be Pat Johnson (main Ref on-screen and stunt coordinator on The Karate Kid & two sequels). Think you guys would love it.

Stephen

Welcome back, Dagester!!! You’ve been missed!

ROME.

Love it! This is fun, also great to see Dagan back....

One thing they don't mention about Mikey, he's by far the most athletic and the best natural fighter. Nunchuks are the hardest weapon of the 4 and take the most discipline, that's why Splinter gave them to him so temper his wildness. He's far and away the most gifted fighter he just never practices or takes things seriously.

Jay

Similarly with Raph, he's the most aggressive so splinter gave him the most defensive weapon
