As tradition dictates, we recorded a roughly four hour show during a relatively light news week. Turns out that there was much to be said about those select topics. The Dukes revisit the hotly debated DLSS 5 topic with fresh information from a new interview with Nvidia as well as comments from their own CEO. The AI rabbithole admittedly runs deep this week as we also get into the closure of Sora as well as Capcom's plans for generative AI. From one hot button topic to another, we discuss the recent layoffs happening at Epic Games. When an industry's top selling game in Battlefield and most popular live service in Fortnite can't avoid layoffs, who can? The dynamic duo dive into the sustainability of game development and why indie just seems like the place to be now. Top of the Dukes' list is the recent report on Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma. It is said that she is assessing how to make Game Pass more attractive and is considering a price reduction. She is also investigating package deals, such as one with Netflix, as a way to bolster the service. Can this be enough to help the service grow? Is it even worth chasing when the 100 million subscriber dream is dead? As the episode's length suggests, we have plenty to say, so stop reading and get to listening!

Marathon fucking rocks. 6 friends of my main 8 friends in my main circle all are logging marathon hours regularly. Would be absolutely the worst news to move on to destiny 3 or something. Marathon fuckign rules I’m telling yal

Nothing for the partner preview ?

As a life long PlayStation guy, if they shut down Marathon instead of recognizing they have something special and nurturing it, they’re dead to me. Never gonna give another one of their live service games a chance since they’re just gonna shut it down unless it explodes with Helldivers/Arc Raiders numbers. Which lets be honest is probably never gonna happen

Digital Foundry back peddled faster than an NFL defensive back.

Marathon is a lot of fun but it’s probably not a good idea to release a super niche pc focused multiplayer game when a major console manufacturer buys you for like over 3 billion dollars.

OLED monitors are known to cause headaches and eye strain Matty. Some people get used to it and some don’t. Oleds are amazing but they do have their cons. There’s flickering when framerates aren’t stable, text fringing is noticeable (I heard it gets better if you go 4k), low to ok brightness, and depending on the monitor there’s pros and cons to the screen coating. The matte isn’t as clear as the glossy and has a slight purple tint. Glossy looks good but if you have lighting behind you the glare gets bad. And of course the burn in (not big issue compared to early oled but still can happen). When I do go 4k I might switch to mini led or possibly get the new tandem oleds I’m not sure. But I’m keeping my 27inch 1440p oled until it dies.

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this Cog, but EVERYTHING gets wiped at the reset except Codex progress, skin unlocks, the silk currency, and liaison contracts so you don’t have to unlock factions again. Everything else is gone, faction levels, upgrades, contracts, vault. It’s all gone.

Anyone looking to jump into crimson desert, it’s great on the ps PRO also.

Really hoping Sony sticks with Marathon. It’s such a great game and it would be a total shame if they let it go to waste.

Final Fantasy 16 sold 3 million copies on a single console within a week. It took Expedition 33 a month to sell 3 million copies across 3 platforms. Crimson Desert just sold 3 million copies in 5 days across 3 platforms. The narrative that FF16 wasn’t successful will never cease to baffle me.

Matthew Cooper

Yeah, there where what, 40-50 million PS5s out at the time? Compared to how many PS5s, Xboxes and PCs are out there when those other games launched..

probably recording a pickup

The problem is Square Enix keeps thinking FF should be able to do GTA numbers. I'm not even kidding.

AJWhite

That's great to hear. I bought it for pro, but I'm trying to finish my KCD2 playthrough first

Risen

You said the console performance is bad but PS5 pro is night and day with PSSR2 vs base

Cog - I have an AMD 9060XT and my AMD Adrenalin software has uninstalled itself like 3x in less than a year. It’s a known issue. No idea why - it’s so annoying

Cog, these articles about Sharma are puff pieces. Also, a subsidized Netflix subscription is not revolutionairy. Lovede the show and happy easter.

I gotta say as somebody with 4000+ hours in destiny 2, I can’t say I agree about marathon feeling like final shape. There’s so much depth to this game and maybe it’s because I’m taking my sweet time (24 hours mostly exclusive to perimeter) but it feels like there’s something new every time I log on and it’s got me engaged. It feels like more than enough

Not sure if this is in Australia only but Chat GPT here always links multiple sources when it proves an answer to an enquiry.
