In the world of PlayStation, this past week was one of mystery. For instance, the director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy seems to be rather blatantly teasing a new Uncharted game on Instagram. But is he actually? Meanwhile, the promise of PlayStation on PC seems to have gone totally up in smoke, with the quiet removal of related iconography from the PSN. Could it be a sign of things to come? Plus, Sony's aggressive new position on the PlayStation Store continues to bear fruit, as even more games are deleted and unpublished that never belonged there to begin with. Are we finally getting the storefront we deserve? Other news this week includes intrigue surrounding an interview with Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki, changes incoming for PS5's UI, potential teases for remakes or remasters of Persona 1 and 2, the wet fart that was the Tales series' 30th anniversary, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do you have to play the original Resident Evil trilogy on PSone to be a "real" fan, or do the remakes suffice? Why is Square Enix so hesitant to do anything with Chrono Trigger? With Capcom's Pragmata right around the corner, what are our last-minute thoughts? Is Dustin hiding his PlayStation Trophies because he's a fake gamer?

The write-in about reading the names disgusted me. Have we fallen so far as a society that we are chasing the dopamine hit from getting a question read on a podcast? What happened to vices like sex or cocaine?

Unemployable troon

Sex is not accessible to a huge majority of the vocal gaming community

BamAHamYum

As a fellow resident of Western PA, I feel like the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when Dustin references locations in Butler.

Jason Rose

Like, I get not eating chocolate, but how do you not like chocolate?

demo_vol1

And mole isn’t just chocolate lol. It’s simply an ingredient. I personally don’t like mole and I like chocolate lol.

Alan

Dammit Jonathan! 😂

BamAHamYum

I’m sorry but I found the write in about the write in names to be genuinely unhinged 😂 if you get a dopamine hit from hearing your favorite podcaster read your Patreon username, please seek God and or medical assistance.

Michael Rogers

I think its obvious to most that things continue to objectively get worse. I've always liked the saying "today is the best things will ever be".

Devon!

Glycerine was like one of the first songs all learned back in the day on guitar.

Vincent

In terms of the resident evil stuff, sorry but people do get a little baby-ish about tank controls and fixed camera angles. They completely change how the games play so there is a reason to go back. Tank controls and fixed camera angles make survival horror games both harder and more atmospheric/cinematic. Also I’m 24 and my first was RE2 remake so I’m not just nostalgic.

ChaosZwei+5

Fixed cameras create claustrophobia and unease in ways over the shoulder never can. I'm the rare resident evil fan that's played and loved the original games and the newer ones but I'd definitely agree the newer fanbase is ridiculous when it comes to the old games and capcom themselves are as well thinking the remakes are somehow just better than the originals when they are actually extremely different games that arguably aren't worth comparing they have separate merits

Zach

I think they shouldn't read any names at all. Just the question or comment is fine.

Vincent

Agreed. People just don’t like the friction of the older games, but the friction is what makes good survival horror !

ChaosZwei+5

If you don't know the context for the starting point of a series you really aren't that much of a fan if you don't know what the foundation is the ps1 games are fantastic and only "don't hold up" if you're the kind of goober who cares about graphical fidelity for some reason

ChaosZwei+5

Colin you dumbass the og and remake of re2 are extremely different besides the story beats which frankly does not matter for a re game what in the world are you talking about

ChaosZwei+5

I don't even know if it's that bc re2r strengths lie in the friction created by its limited resources gamers are just weird and are extremely off put by polygonal graphics and can't appreciate the artistry put into games back then. Really narrow minded imo.

Your Boi Nicky V

Uncharted 4 suuucks ass. Even Balan Wonderworld is better.

Dante B

Very rational responses from a very normal person. Looking forward for the third installment!

The Incredible Shulk

The way Dustin pronounces "Civilization " annoys me way too much.

ChaosZwei+5

I'm not allowed to call someone stupid for saying an obviously dumb thing?

Tyrone Yhip

Colin could not be more wrong on Resident Evil. I believe you SHOULD go back and play them either before or after playing the remakes. If not alone for the simple reason of seeing how far these games and technology came from, the charm of the og's, and the uniqueness of all of them. Not to mention theyre all short in comparison to the remakes. The biggest problem with the remakes is they're all homogenized, all the same UI, same damn menu sounds, same camera and mechanics. For "modern audiences", not to mention they cut a bunch of shit from the remakes. The only remake id say is as good or superior is RE4 and 1 remake. RE1 DOES NOT need a remake it was already remade perfectly superior than all RE remakes that came after cause it kept what made the original unique while adding and improving. If youre going to get into something, the you owe it to that something yo learn its history and how far it came from. If not then you're a tourist!

Tyrone Yhip

Vincent and Chaos you guys get it. Good men 👏🏾

Tyrone Yhip

Id also like to add, that getting into something later than when it originally came out is totally fine. Just because something came out before you were born is no excuse. If that was the case then why do people fall in love with music that came out decades prior to their birth ? What a sad world it'd be if we followed that mantra. Attempt to play the originals and if u dont like them fine. But at least you tried to.

Supes

blud needs to start taking zinc when he gets these colds, I used to turn into a sickly little VIctorian child when I got sick but it makes a night and day difference for me

Supes

I feel about chocolate the same way I feel about hot sauce: as a way to accentuate other flavors it's awesome, but if it's just that one flavor profile it gets kind of boring to me.

Ryan Taylor

As an Australian hearing constantly how you guys do your taxes it’s actually insane. Having to save that money then figure out how much you owe the government then getting bent over all so they can spend it on more tomahawk missiles is just lunacy.

Lockmort’s real name is Lachlan

I think they're talking about taxes from the perspective of contractors. It's the same in Australia, contractors need to put aside tax from their gross income. I'm pretty sure if you are an employee in the States your employer automatically witholds your tax contribution? I may be wrong.

PixelJunkie76

There is an idea of a Dustin Furman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real him, only an entity, something illusory.

Christopher Ricetopher

How has it been almost 10 years since lost legacy? Where the hell did that time go?

Dion De Lesia

Guys, what is “can’t do it man” from?

Virgin Barry

Couldn’t agree with you more. He appears to be talking about it from a purely narrative perspective, where the remakes do actually replace the originals I suppose. But as an interactive experience they are not replacements in the slightest. I prefer the original 2,3 and 4 to their remakes personally. Skipping the originals makes you a tourist by definition. There’s nothing wrong with that, and I’m a tourist of many series by that definition, but anyone who hasn’t played the originals is missing vital context of the series as GAMES.

Virgin Barry

Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who had their cortisol spiked by the Resident Evil conversation

Walk Forward Cutscene

It’s been a month and you guys are still coping about the performance of Marathon despite all evidence pointing towards it being a massive financial loss. You can enjoy the game without lying

The Incredible Shulk

How so? I dont recall a single moment of reverse pop-in in Uncharted 4....or any Naughty Dog game for that matter!

Supes

@Marko correct, they do, but they don't always get it right which is part of the frustrating part of taxes in the US. Your employer will withhold a certain amount based on the W4 you provide to them, but things like deductions, credits, big life changes (getting married, buying a house, having a kid) or multiple jobs mean that you you might have to adjust your withholding or make some estimated payments. It's basically a gigantic guessing game, where the IRS knows how much you owe but *you* don't so you have to try and figure it out yourself, or pay someone to figure it out for you. Doing taxes in the US sucks.

The Incredible Shulk

I love Bush and Glyceeine...but God damn, Gavin writes the absolute worst lyrics I've ever heard. Utter nonsense

Lunar Tear

2:04:00 *Obligatory comment about SMT if... being the link between mainline SMT and the Persona subseries.* For those interested, fan translations and repros exist.

Good job, spoiling the mario movie Jesus

NeO JD

Zinc + Vitamin C combo is the real deal

NeO JD

Finding out Colin’s “mental hurdle” stopped him from eating molé is wild.

Tom Hannay

Colin, any time Sony's failed PC push has come up in the last few weeks you've couched your statements in so many caveats, so many "the market wasn't interested", "they didn't do it the right way" excuses that nothing you've said on the topic has come remotely close to admitting you were wrong.

Del Griffith

I didn’t know any of these Mario spoilers. Your podcast spoiled them for me. Thank you 😊

Lockmort’s real name is Lachlan

Thanks for the clarification! It's pretty similar down under too, although usually employers get it pretty spot on with the income tax. However if you have another income stream then you're in your own 😅

Nick

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and die on this hill. TAXES ARE THEFT.

Nick

You’re correct. Employers can automatically withhold your tax contributions, but the federal fucking government will still try to steal more from you. I fucking hate them with a burning passion.

Nick

Now imagine if everyone knew that the $10k - $15k in federal income taxes you’re paying is most likely going into the ether somewhere. At best, it’s disappearing. At worst, it’s funding corrupt politician salaries and weapons to bomb innocent people so those same corrupt politicians can profit.

PairOfShuse

you know when Colin was talking about how they taken things away from you or change ingredients, that he was talking about E.L. fudge cookies without saying it

Del Griffith

Yeah, this was whack. Why does he assume it was spoiled for everyone? I avoid trailers, like he does

Matt Wiles

With Starfield, you’ve got to be ‘all-in’, immersed and role playing it. If you feel disconnected from it slightly, you won’t fall in love. I’m completely obsessed with clearing enemy outposts, mixing it up between a cool ‘rapid’ knife and burning gun. Do a bit of main quest, side faction quest, clear another outpost, customise your ship, upgrade weapon stuff on the research table… I’m fully immersed though. 21 hours in, 3 days in, and it’s 9/10 for me so far.

lazer_josh

The shitification is real

JohnPaul Keith

Nothing funnier than people who complain about the healthcare system and then vote for Republicans 😂

Walk Forward Cutscene

Most of the money goes to Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security. This is all public information. Are you that uninformed or just lying?

Walk Forward Cutscene

And apparently you have never looked at a high-level breakdown of the US federal budget. Most of it goes to 3 big entitlement programs

Del Griffith

How many tourists played Requiem without playing Outbreak first? You should be embarrassed!

ChaosZwei+5

But no I'm just a crazy person bc I was kinda rude

ChaosZwei+5

Horrible comparison the original trilogy that kicked off the franchise are absolutely must plays for a big fan and you are missing out hugely by not playing them or thinking they aren't significant

PairOfShuse

It honestly isn’t a republican or a democrat issue. The problem in my opinion is the lack of care of a lot of doctors. I’ve been going really hard trying to get help the past 2 years and I’ve never been more depressed as I am now with how little care I’ve gotten from 90 percent of doctors. I’ve had less than a handful that are really trying to help me and I’m in the worst place I’ve ever been in my life. I’m also at a place where people have abandoned me for extremely uncaring reasons. I have very few friends now at this point and besides 1-2 people, a very weak support system. I have a good job and am part of the medical system as well and the care and lack thereof that I’ve experienced has made me extremely jaded. While some bigger issues could be a politics thing, the biggest problem I’ve found is on a people level and the system itself where everything is way too compartmentalized

Del Griffith

I’ve played them all. You sound like a tourist if you only think the original trilogy is important. The spinoffs are important too. Aren’t you embarrassed to not even care enough to dig deep into the franchise? I would be.

Athetos

The originals are all mostly homogenized too, the first 3 all have the same UI, mechanics, fixed-camera, etc. So much so that people were completely burnt out on the formula by the time RE0 came out (RE4 was the reinvention). Now you could argue that the Remakes have homogenized 4 with the rest, but all 3 surely have as many gameplay differences as the the original trilogy on PS1. Code: Veronica was the first to have major graphical differences with its 3D backgrounds. My 2 favorite REs are both Remakes. REmake for GameCube and RE2 Remake. I'd also argue that over the shoulder aiming is superior gameplay-wise to fixed camera shooting (boss fights in general are greatly improved, and I love being able to shoot/cut off arms and legs). Fixed-camera can be better at creating atmosphere and other cinematic aspects. I do agree that modern UI sounds and soundtrack are worse (everybody should be playing RE2 and 4 Remake with the original OST DLC activated).

An optimistic Bears fan

You do realize the game averages over 100k players on steam alone on a DAILY basis.

Definitely most people don’t have investments, maybe 10% at most

Ryan

Its roughly 7% …

Walk Forward Cutscene

That’s not a good number for a game that cost over $200m and it still hasn’t stabilized yet. Even Destiny 2 has more total DAU now because people actually play that game on console.

Glen Yelenovic

I would have shit myself if Star Fox wasn’t spoiled by Nintendo themselves and I saw him in the movie

Diego Muñoz

Hey guys, the video version is still locked for lower-tier patreons. Thanks!

Gooch Gobbler

looks like it is at 62% in USA so that is quite a bit

Gooch Gobbler

Just something one of Dustin's friends said once

Walk Forward Cutscene

More than 10% of the country has an employer sponsored 401(k) at the bare minimum.

Kid-Organic

Devil’s advocate take: Shaun was saying “research” so he can do the trip as a write-off on his taxes, which are due this month.

Anthony Palerino

As a gringo, I do prefer burritos, but tacos are great if you really want to have a variety of meats and salsas. The simplicity of a street taco highlights how good the meat is, while a burrito is about how good the combination of everything is.

Surge!

I appreciate foreskin's username. Many a times have I felt shame for a perfectly normal and healthy choice made by my parents. I love my foreskin, and all the more power to the warriors out there making us known.
