In regards to FFXIV on Switch 2, it requires its own sub to Final Fantasy XIV at the normal price of 12.99 per month. In the past, theyve allowed you to play on all platforms you own the game on under one subscription. If you are already paying the subscription for PC/PS5/Xbox, they offer a 50% discount for adding the switch 2 version. If you only plan on playing for Switch 2, it'll be no different than if you were to only play on PC. Hope that helps some folks.

Can’t trust Gene’s reviews anymore. Feels like he’s capable of convincing himself to like any game. Giving Starfield a 10/10 should’ve exposed this but the way he talks about Crimson Desert seals the deal.

I still don't get the Crimson Desert glazing, at all. I put like 25 hours in to get some sort of a feel for it, and even that felt like a chore. It's not a game I ever felt the want to get back to, and that feeling was only amplified the last few weeks when I was sucked into games like Marathon or Pragmata which I wanted to keep playing. Crimson Desert is huge, has big areas to explore and is beautiful - but it all feels a bit surface level to me. When I hear the likes of Gene or Lock talk about all the wild things you can eventually see or do, idk it just all feels a bit generic (in a gameplay sense) and I don't feel the draw to go back to it. Maybe it's because I'm not a MMO guy at all, as the game is full of fetch quests and the guys acknowledge it's that kinda game. If you love those games I'm sure this is a dream to live in this game for hundreds of hours, but that doesn't excite me at all. I still want to give it another go at some later stage when they're finished updating it, maybe chip away at it for a long time if it grabs me - it's not a bad game, I just find some people really go overboard in the praise. But obviously, each to their own.

I must say the story of FF14 from Heavensward through Endwalker is fantastic. Shadowbringers is one of the greatest video game stories I’ve played and Endwalker puts such a great bow on the first narrative saga. I would however consider using an expansion skip for Dawntrail and just watching a recap video before the new expansion

The gears reloaded definitely sold better on ps5 since if you had gears ultimate it was a free upgrade + game pass.

I know Michael Higham as a reviewer, he's a big JRPG guy who loves those long grindy JRPGs with silly stories and repetitive combat. His biggest criticism of Saros, a 15 hour roguelike action game, is that it's repetitive with a silly story... So I'll probably just disregard his review on this one.

The Halo talk reminds me of how I felt about the “cod hype cycle”, before I finally stopped playing. Each year they would say the same exact tag lines. “Boots on the ground”, “back to basics”, and bring back old weapons, maps, characters, etc. Also, thank you for being straight up about the IGN write-in. People keep acting like a rating of 7 is a crime for some reason. “Oh no they're a point or two off other outlets”, give me a break. We honestly need divergent takes in the space. Doesn't mean you have to agree with the review or that you can't argue about it. I don't want reviews to just be monoliths of opinions, I want different takes and tastes traded around. Great discussions as always, love seeing Gene too!

Not that it’s a trust worthy metric but google ai says ps5 started with weaker sales for reloaded but then exceeded other platforms for purchased versions as most people on xbox just played it on gamepass. Kinda like how starfield would have been gangbusters on ps5 if it was day and date.

I genuinely find myself bored as fuck when playing it and the game feels incredibly generic and shallow (and I've put in close to your amount of hours to give it a fair shake) - but this feeling is in complete opposition to people like Lock or Gene who talk about it like one of their all time favourites. I've come to the conclusion that just not really my kinda game, it's always described as a single player MMO and those just aren't for me. I do want to get back to it and some point and just chip away at it for a long time on the side - but multiple other games have come out since which have grabbed my attention WAY more, and I find myself constantly wanting to go back to those, which I never felt with Crimson Desert - and that kinda says it all imo

I played Paranormasight Seven Mysteries of Honjo earlier this year as well! It was so amazing. A perfect game to play a little every night before bed as you said. It jump started my love of Visual Novels which have been a great genre to get into now that I'm a dad and have a 3 month old. I also recommend AI The Somnium Files
