It's me, Colin! Please welcome YouTuber, researcher, and modder Michael Kemp to Sacred+. A few weeks ago, Michael uploaded a video to his YouTube channel (TheKempy) entitled "Uncovering Amy Hennig's Uncharted 4." It's an hour and a half long, but about 10 minutes in, I paused the video, found Michael's email address, and invited him onto the show. (Then I finished watching.) That's how impressed I was with what I had seen. The long-and-short of it is this: Mr. Kemp has gone to excruciating lengths to figure out what original writer and director Amy Hennig's version of Uncharted 4 was all about, using a combination of interviews, reported news, and -- perhaps most vitally! -- tons of data left in the final game's source files. Amy's exit from Naughty Dog in 2014 was dramatic and unexpected; yet, the pressure under which the final version came together in the subsequent two years after her firing is the real story. Let's get into all of the cut content, characters, features, setpieces, and more, talk about what Uncharted 4 could have been, what it ended up as, and whether we actually got the better iteration.

I got baited 😭

Mysterious Narrator

What he didn't tell you about is the tons of explicit mods he's harboring in his collection.

Ryan

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.

BigDumbStupidIdiot

Calling Jade Raymond and Amy Hennig system QBs is crazy but accurate.

start a infection

Wait this is the guy that made the first person mod too?? I always thought that nd should make a first person mode because of that video

Ryan Taylor

Can’t wait to listen to this but the thumbnail had me fooled.

Lunar Tear

I wasn't fooled by the thumbnail because this was mentioned in yesterday's Sacred, but I can see why it would get people lol.

Virgin Barry

Great interview Colin, even if I have to performatively shake my head every time you definitively state that TLOU2 is one of the best games of all time

Drew Lee

What a great episode!

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

The Gabriel Betancourt interview always reminds me of that Curb Your Enthusiasm episode with the psychiatrist. "A famous movie director, I wont mention his name but he made Star Wars". Like we wouldn't be able to suss out who he was talking about?

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

Only thing that got baited was how many of you didn't listen to Sacred Symbols. Colin literally said who he was interviewing on SS+.

i_wish_you_wood

Some people probably haven’t had a chance to listen yet

Mitch Orobko

This was such a great podcast. Thank you.

Nick

The part about needing to know what unfinished or unreleased products were like is how I feel about Rockstar’s game Agent for the PS3, Bully 2, and the cancelled GTA 5 DLCs. Its possible to tell those stories because it’s all in the 2022 leaked source code, but obviously I can’t do that.

Daddy T

I mean mechanically speaking I’d agree, story and characters? I don’t know about all that dawg

Daddy T

Great episode lads!

Rob Pursglove

What a great episode. I hope you have Kempy on again in the future.

Jerry Huerta

Uncharted 5 should be about Francis drake

Nick Pacheco

Great interview, have the guy on again in the future!

David Rector

Lets get Kempe on Summon Sign

Kevin Cooper

It never even dawned on me what the combat would look like for Cassie -- a very interesting point. Unless the game takes place when she's much older, and she is essentially a gun-wielding Lara Croft.

Marco Maluf

IMO, we already have a lady adventurer tomb explorer that makes sense, her name is LARA Croft, Uncharted is about Nate, Sully, Helena mainly, this itch Sony has now to make all protagonist women will be their downfall. I dont care about Nates daughter, just like the GOW without Kratos, screw that….

Marco Maluf

Its not by a loooooong shot Tlou 1 was great and the only one that truly counts

crosstriangleOsquare

My favorite part about this interview was getting to know that Amy told the cast to stay with the team and finish the game. I assume and hope that is true. I also thought Amy was going to talk in this podcast episode because of the thumbnail. BRUH.
