The bottom continues to fall out from the games industry. Approximately five impending studio closures was simply not enough. Here comes PlayStation who is shutting down their entire physical game operation. It's never been more clear than right now that many of us who have been gaming since the 90s are now truly considered "the old guard" as we continue to face off against staggering changes at a breakneck speed.

Heavy episode. Great insight, honest discussion. Big changes in the industry, really feels like it's coming to an end of an era. Feel lucky to have been part of it and hope for a recovery in the long run. Somewhere we have to detach from corporate money and find humanity. Where we can share art and ideas and knowledge in a way that doesn't exclude. Feels like a complete system redux needs implemented. There's gotta be more than money to grease society's progress. It's probably much, but I'm think of the ending and quote in "Don't Look Up"

Around 1:10:00 Nintendo sales are 55% digital, 45% digital per their financials. GKC aren't physical games per se but at least you can buy it off the shelf, play the game (after downloading it), sell it on GameStop/eBay and someone else can play it.

Nothings ever perfectly the same but I was always a physical collector through PS4 and when they released the all digital PS5 alongside the disc version - then the PRO didn’t even have a disc drive…. Writing has been on the wall for years and everyone acting a bit silly about this. Yea having an option taken away sucks… but not has everyone accepted it for PC, but music, TV shows and movies - all of it. No one is collecting physical media anymore because of space and resource constraint. The world is trying to use less plastic and this is another way to accomplish that too. Everything going in this direction but everyone swimming upstream of denial.

If they didn't ask for desired doneness that's pretty weird, (maybe I'm wrong, I usually eat steak at home) Was still pretty funny to hear him describe it as "raw" though. No shade. I get it's off putting for some people.

I feel vindicated; this entire generation Sony has treated its customers like shit. No refunds (but that's been going on forever), no proper BC program, not letting you back up PS5 saves to local storage and requiring PS+, raising ps+ prices like crazy their shitty security, barely making games, etc etc everyone just took it lying down.

Your doom and gloom take is so hard to listen to. It sucks but deal with it, it's not the end of gaming. Sales will happen and yeah maybe they won't be as good as steam but also those crazy sales, maybe just maybe, take too many funds away from the developers etc to allow them to keep making games and survive. Games don't need to go on 75% sales like steam and gamers need to adjust. Also if gamers don't buy games at higher prices then the prices will eventually lower or those games won't survive. That's okay, not everything needs to succeed. The only real shitty thing to me is Sony's security sucks and they had better get that straightened out. I usually enjoy listening to you guys but your constant doom is getting old. Let us know what's going on and then please move on already. Too much soap box lately.
