In a time where game preservation feels it matters the least, here comes some much needed news. Leaked via The Verge, we now know Xbox is accelerating a program dedicated to preserving your games dating back to the original Xbox generation. That much has been known thanks to a program greenlit by Sarah Bond during her time at Xbox. However, the new wrinkle is not only that Xbox 360 games are headed to PC, but also that the backwards compatible library stands a chance to expand beyond what we already know. Now, the catch is that other developers would have to play ball, but more from a greenlight standpoint rather than any additional engineering. The icing on the cake? Xbox is finally bringing its platinum trophy equivalent to the platform. After two generations of waiting, they'll finally be getting with the times and you won't have to wait much longer to hear about it thanks to Asha Sharma. I bought gears reloaded for 20 bucks and I'll do the same with halo remake cuz that's what those games are worth. Xbox should've done them as the mcc and marcus fenix collection like we all asked for from the start. Instead they cratered their image with their own fans and reaped little financial benefit from ps gamers who saw through the greedy bullshit

It doesn’t seem too hard to figure out why a lot of Xbox’s game don’t sell well on PS (or anywhere for that matter). They either are extremely niche (Pentiment) or just not very good (pretty much everything else they’ve released outside of Forza). Feel like the guys want the hope of Exclusivity coming back as a way to cloud how the reasons the games aren’t selling.

Halo is a dead franchise that nobody my age (22) cares for. I wish it could have a comeback because I never got to experience halo at its peak and I’ve never even played it but everybody my age just sighs whenever halo is even brought up.

For context on how badly Halo has fallen: across three platforms, it sold as many copies as Metroid Prime 4 (an eh entry in a B-tier IP) and sold as many copies on PS5 as Saros (a now dead IP) You can't have THEE flagship IP be this shitty. Completely unacceptable. Halo has to go to another team and 343 should be shut down.

man please play the series, it holds up and I don't even like old games usually. I played the whole series a few years back for the first time when I got my first XBOX, one of my favorite series now really. I don't hate the newer ones as much as everyone else

I do plan on playing the series one day, I just don’t think it has or can attain the potential or brand power it used to have. And I think a huge part of the game industry that doesn’t get talked about much is the gamers in their early 20s because we are the last bastion of hope for the industry. These kids nowadays just play Fortnite and Roblox.

Age isn’t the issue. Resident Evil has been around even longer and saw lower lows(RE6, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps) and now it’s bigger than ever. Just needs completely new people working on and managing it

I'm confused. Who thought halo 1 remastered was gonna sell more than a beloved call of duty release? I find it odd that you are so dramatic about the disappointment in sales, then you go over the awful track record of halo in recent years. I feel youre being very disingenuous by inflating your disappointment when you had all the facts to understand why it wont sell well. You act upset but I cant understand why. Even your own team of podcast hosts weren't excited for the halo release. Why would you think it was ever gonna be big? It just makes you look either inflammatory or ignorant.
