It's me, Colin. Please welcome long-time friend-of-the-show, lawyer, and LSM legal analyst Rick Hoeg back to Sacred+. Mr. Hoeg returns with a trio of topics to discuss, issues of a more academic variety that we haven't necessarily gotten into deeply enough on the flagship program. We split our conversation into three primary parts, the first focusing on the Trump administration's release of arcade.gov, a politically-charged smorgasbord of parody and spoof games. Where does copyright infringement end and freedom of speech begin? Second, we go into the ongoing saga surrounding digital ownership. Should governments threaten corporations into compliance, or does a softer means to an end exist? Finally, we jump into tariff rebates, and how you're unlikely to see anything from Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft. Bad government execution is responsible for billions in taxes being collected that don't actually need to be paid. So why is it that the consumer always seems to lose?

I feel so fed right now lol good shit dude

The tariff rebate situation is one of the slimmest things I have ever looked into. Howard Lutnicks kids started buying tariff refund rights from companies, as his dad is setting these tariffs, lol. Crime is just legal in the US. Not to diminish corruption from other admins, but this corruption is so open I honestly can't believe there is 0 pushback. All while driving prices up and up and up. Insane.

It’s not lost on me that all the “rights” Colin and the digital crew go on about are already present in a gaming product currently on the market, physical games. You can sell them, pass them down to your kids, keep them if you get banned from psn. Etc Literally everything talked about as far as “digital ownership” goes is already present in a product Sony is trying to kill. It seems to me you would have a better chance at talking Sony into not killing discs than talking them into giving you more “rights” to a license you bought on their storefront. As someone with a shelf full of games(400 ps4 discs and 176ish ps5 discs) I am not at all worried about Sony killing my account, or them going out of business. They can take it. F them. I’ll have all my purchases still

The Hoeg Sacred Plus episodes are some of my favorites.

Thank you Colin for standing up for the trump administrations ability to rip off video games and how unfair they’re treated by leftists not wanting them to use their work :(

Ryan

This is a very underrated point lmao When Colin is going on and on about how much digital ownership needs to change you can just think…. Discs have done all of this for decades lol

Breaking Bot’s Weld Jr played by Robot John MIDI

The “you never owned a game even on disc” thing is really pissing me off. It’s all pedantic semantics. No one is saying they own the actual game. They own the DISC (that contains the game). Then it’s just a simple acknowledgement that you’re not allowed to copy it and sell the copy or give it away or whatever. It’s really simple.

When I hear about people on the right complaining about art/media leaning left with their decisions it’s always weird to me because those left leaning creators have the American right to make those decisions. People on the right complain about this shit like they can’t just go create their own things. No one is stopping a conservative from creating ANY types of media or dictating the uses of that media. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and create the media you want. It just seems like the common complaint is always the creative media leans left. Well yeah, most creatives aren’t conservative. It’s always been like that.

Mog

Yeah seriously. You don't like people bein mad and angry and resentful to you? Tough cookies dude. Make something of your own. Say something that resonates. Instead we get a temper tantrum and crossing of arms like a toddler. People generally speaking do NOT like what's happening right now and they do NOT respect the office of the president, and for good reason!

Conservatives can't make good art they have to steal it from others. I almost guarantee those white house "games" are made with AI.

DeucesBruh

Colin calling himself a capitalist while arguing tariffs "just need to be done better" is a contradiction. The minute you think any one person or group can steer market forces better than the invisible hand, you're not practicing capitalism anymore, and history has proven time and again how that usually works out.

Screwed Mcfucked

There is something to be said the biggest "stars" they pedestal at their events are either a brain damaged meathead or a washed up c list actor.

Chris

Rick!!! I really missed you being on LSM. Great to hear you are well.

Screwed Mcfucked

When Colin said he thinks it unfair that it "only seems to be a problem when the right does it" it would have been pretty cool to get an example or two

Supes

most of those White House games are derivative and stupid, but the whole “conservatives can’t make good art” argument comes from a place of unbelievable ignorance. I suppose you think Lord of the Rings or The Book of the New Sun was made by people who “can’t make good art.”

Screwed Mcfucked

"I just wanna catch my fish, drive my truck, drink my beer." I'd be stealing other people's art too if this is what my people were bringing to the table

Addison117

Still less ignorant than they are, and I mostly meant works that have a very obvious conservative or right leaning agenda/message, they come off as extremely forced.

Colin: “I feel like you play a lot of games…”” POOOOOOOFFFFF LOL

Big Devin Energy

To audio listeners it’s hilarious to hear the clouds

Ryan

Don’t tell Colin every single thing he wants with digital right was solved 25 years ago with game discs lol

Screwed Mcfucked

@Supes "derivative" is being so unbelievably generous

Dikkbig Though

Facts man. But hey what these people are doing is just a “difference of opinion.” They’re not hateful. And people shouldn’t think they’re evil for their beliefs harming others. And “you should make content that has our ideology as well”. Haha

Devon!

Great ep gents

Paul Knickerbocker

This is a tough listen knowing that the tone of the conversation would be vastly different if this was AOC or Gavin Newsome making these games on taxpayer dollars.

Gooch Gobbler

Your most recent example is from the 80s lol sure throw out a few from the last 20 years and it's still dogshit in comparison. I've always been pretty fascinated by that. Especially music where there isn't much of a story or message a lot of the time. Can't even make good sounds lmao

Gooch Gobbler

but Biden old. We are draining the swamp /s

Movies were taken from my PSN account. In fact, they actually removed them prematurely and when I contacted customer service they were able to restore them in the blink of an eye. They will still inevitably be removed obviously, but it shows that the situation is a lot less complicated than they would have you believe. There... now you know someone affected by it.

Beef Burka

There was one point in the episode where Hoeg very subtly said the same thing.
