A player-organized "PlayStation Blackout" recently asked Sony's hardcore customers to stay off of PSN for a mere week. It was a no doubt modest ask -- one that wasn't going to break the brand -- and it's always nice to see people try and do something when they deem it necessary. But if data from reliable US industry tracking firm Circana is any indication, the PlayStation Blackout had no discernable effect on their data whatsoever. When does initiative end and performance begin? If something is clearly not working, should one's tactics change? Perhaps most importantly, does a movement, no matter how laudable, need actually likable leadership to be effective? One thing's for sure: The blackout was a dud, something its most ardent champions cannot (or perhaps will not) square. The black out was a failure but no shot that PlayStation has anywhere close to the lead over Xbox than they had the last 2 gens, and that’s what it’s going to take for PlayStation to feel they need to change course

With recent data showing Wolverine sold 1.9 million copies(Alinea analytics), is it safe to say that near 99% of the PS gamers don’t really care about the hardcore and will buy and play near anything? Before these numbers I thought because of all the negative sentiment online, this would surely be the straw that broke the camels back, but now it seems that people who skipped the game are in the minority.

The problems with Wolverine are too baked into the design to be an accessibility option. His scent trails and auto alerts are the gameplay representation of a key component of his powers (ehanced senses). So to turn off the fart trail would essentially be taking some of the characters toolkit out of the game. It's not a matter of leaning to hard into handholding or accessibility as a feature, it's just a brain-dead design idea from the get-go. Literally all they had to do for Wolverine's ehanced senses was a combination of Assassin's Creed's 'Eagle-Vision' and Arkham Asylum's 'Detective Mode' scenarios, and it would have been 100 times better than 'follow this fart'

She doesn’t latch on to too many but the three that she became obsessed with, to the point of straight up addiction are GTA, Animal Crossing NH, and now it’s Pokopia. Exactly, this is exactly where Playstation needs to tread lightly, they don't have the financial support of Microsoft like Xbox does, if they mess up, they do feel it. PS3 almost killed them. But gamers will always game, almost always at least, given circumstances. The movement should have been "buy physical only". Sony sees those numbers

I'm really curious how wonders of o is gonna look story wise. We already know Dorothy is some sort of supernatural immortal being like the player character becomes at the end of lies of p. So it could be her origin story but I'd really like to see it be set after lies of p. I think the bridge between them will be Paracelsus who is probably actually the p in lies of p. The universe of these games is both adaptations of fantasy books but also elements and figures from real history which I think is really cool and unique.

Kojima doesn't seem to have any issues with timed console exclusives. Death Stranding took five years to come to XBOX, and Death Stranding 2 is not there yet. I wouldn't be surprised if PHYSINT was a timed console exclusive on XBOX, but day and date on the PC.

Ultimately, you can't hold people at gunpoint and force them to have good taste. Marathon is far and away the best playing, most stylish, most fun shooter ever published under the Playstation banner, but it's also the most uncompromising and demanding. That immediately restricts its userbase by turning off the people that Wolverine was tuned for. Beyond that, the seasonal cycle causes a fair share of the remaining people to bounce off. Lots of people (particuularly players raised on Destiny, who have been trained to covet their loot) don't like having the fruits of their labor taken away just to do it all again, even if it is the best thing for balance. I don't mind, because the chase, the runs, the tension and drama of every match are my prize, the loot is just tools for the next run. There is stuff to do every season. Try and reach a higher rank, try and unlock all the lore in the codex (which is cool), and each new season has new lore/story introduced through contracts as well as map refreshes and whatnot. But if you're not in it for the love of the game, I'm not sure what Bungie can do to make people who don't love it, love it. I'll be cranking out hours til they shut the servers down.

A protest with a deadline is, by definition, performative. Strikes only work (when they do) because they are indefinite, otherwise your opponent can just wait you out. Anyone who thought that a weeklong blackout might affect any actual material change in the fabric of Sony's reality is big old fat fool. You can argue about the merit of intentions and principles and whatnot all day, but in terms of meaningful impact, it was always obvious it was never going to do anything.

I know it’s the reality of the situation so I don’t blame Colin (or anyone) for saying it, but I think it’s such a shame discussions now come down to ‘well it won’t make a lot of money and it costs a lot so I get why Sony did this’. Again, I get it, I just wish things weren’t so volatile that companies didn’t have to make decisions like this. Partly the same reason why Wolverine was built the way it was, where games are trying to cater to as many as possible to make the most money. So much great stuff to play regardless (I feel overwhelmed), just wish PlayStation were in more of a fighting position and making less controversial moves - though that Media Molecule news certainly counts for that, hopeful for them! PS: On Physint, it’s not just about Xbox being a potentially bad steward, they also don’t have the same engine/resources. It’s more than just what platforms it might be playable on. So the game might come, but will there be drawbacks?

1.) I recommend going back to the DQ remakes of 1-3 and then to 7. They are sublime. 2.) You’re definitely speaking out of school a bit on Level 5. People love Fantasy Life and Inazuma Eleven Victory Road, both games from last year. I would continue to judge the outputs, instead of conjecture on their development pipeline.

I’m not sure that Xbox has the full backing of Microsoft. I think Asha has grace, and perhaps a bit of time to right the ship, but I think that time is finite. Whatever projections that show the platform under Asha’s direction reaching profitability, (I assume that’s what was projected) will be watched very very closely.

I saw Barbarian in the theater and thought it was an awful horror movie... Even Stephen King liked it. I'm surprised, did we even see the same movie? Is horror just hard to do when we have real life horrors? The film's portrait of horror is so unbelievable, a 20 feet monster chasing you down fighting you in the street and the world just goes by as if that's not a big deal? At least Halloween is a groundable, believable fiction. Straight up I thought the film was ass stupid, and based on what I've heard about Weapons, Backrooms, and Resident Evil, none of them sound like they push the envelope or are even frightening! I don't think Sony will feel any effects from their bad decisions till at least next year. This fall is too big with GTA 6. But what happens next year when people like Dustin and I have stopped buying 3rd party games on Playstation? Those games will start to add up. The thing that also bothers me about it is that Colin was clearly swayed by Chris and Dustin's conversation about Wolverine, to the point Colin said he wouldn't bother playing it any time soon (until he realised he'd probably be doing an interview soon which would require him to play it), despite him saying like a week earlier that he was really looking forward to playing it. Whatever you want to say about the game and it being good or not - there have been many examples of Colin playing a game on release regardless of what the Metacritic scores were after review, because he had been planning on that and wanted to make up his own mind. Even though I've joked in the past about Colin being really into some mid games - I've always really appreciated his stance on this, and his willingness to play games he was intending to and not falling in line with the general public opinion and simply not trying these games. I do think there's a different vibe about it when it's not just the general Metacritic score and reviews from IGN etc, but Chris and Dustin on the show who he's hearing alot more directly from, and they're even cracking jokes about how bad it is during separate news stories. Idk, it just feels like Colin was influenced more than he would normally be, so despite him not getting a code, he was still indirectly affected by the others getting them

I’m 37 and I’ve always worn ear plugs at shows. In my opinion, it actually makes it sound better. Filters out all the super-high frequency so you can actually just hear the music. The best sounding band I ever heard? After the Burial at Warped Tour on a tiny side stage. Why? It wasn’t super loud. At that point where you hear the sound guy finish the mix and it sounds great, they skipped that final step of cranking it until it’s way too loud and distorted.

I disconnected from PSN and started homebrew on PS3 and soon PS5. The funds that I used to spend on PS Store rentals (not purchases) now goes to building a fun collection of old and rare games. Playstation and their bag carriers can suck it.
