The first time you get access to explore the city and the world map, it's very overwhelming. It took me several hours to get used to it but it SO MUCH BETTER than Three Houses' and Engage's hub areas. It feels a JRPG; collect your quests, improve relationships for recruitment, then head to world map to complete quests and explore for loot. I've been using the auto-tasks after my exploration is done to grind out class/weapon ranks.

Dog, Fire emblem hasn't been points on a map for a loooong time Game is fantastic. - a fire emblem fan since the gba Edit: That being said, I do get it coming off Dawnwalker. I just came off it as well, and I DID feel that feeling at first. I was just ready for everything in between the battles. I hope it clicks!

@micah the Dark Deity games are modern indie releases that are much closer to fire emblem games pre-Awakening

I’ll check those out, thanks! :) -Micah

Micah, for what it's worth, I am 100% with you on Fortune's Weave. I really enjoyed Three Houses overall, but I found the monastery stuff to be a complete slog, especially having to do it multiple times to complete all four routes. When I discovered they'd basically 10x'd that stuff for Fortune's Weave, my heart sank. I am finding it to be a bunch of bloated, tedious, boring nonsense that makes me say "man I sure wish I could get back to the actually good part" (the fighting). If anything, I think it's worse than Three Houses, because at least in 3H the characters were compelling and full of personality so it made doing all the doofy stuff with lost items and inviting to meals kind of interesting. Half the recruitable characters in FW are just "random barbarian man" or "woman with a single gimmick to her personality." The requirements for recruitement are grindy and there are many characters who literally have almost no supports with each other, so there's not even a real reward for doing all these boring-ass tasks around Dagsion. I gather other people don't seem to feel this way and I'm glad that people are enjoying the game, but I think it has some major flaws and is far from perfect.

Different strokes. The first Fire Emblem I ever tried was one of the older ones that was just battles plus visual novel story in between. I bounced off it HARD. Then I tried Three Houses when I heard it had been Persona-fied and I loved it precisely because of all of the character interaction stuff. That isn’t to say that the monastery didn’t eventually run out of steam, because it totally did. Now granted, I’ve played and enjoyed more visual novel-type games since then and would probably enjoy the classic FEs more now, but I definitely strongly prefer this modern direction.

I’m with Micah 100% on Fire Emblem. Get this extra shit the fuck away from me

Fortune's Weave is awesome, albeit quite easy for my liking, even on Hard/Classic. I'd love to see options that are a bit more consistent with the difficulty of older entries. If I don't feel like I'm gambling the past hour of my free time on every turn I take, am I even really playing Fire Emblem?

Imo, in FW, it’s best to just pick a path and stick with it. Jumping from path to path will make the pacing crawl and it's easier to keep track of one path. I'm almost done with my first route and it’s gotten so much better already.

Does Micah have a case of brain rot? Sounds like Chris any time there is an ounce of story in a game.

Walk Forward Cutscene

The story in Path of Radiance mogs modern Fire Emblem. What are you talking about? You should play classic Fire Emblem, zoomer

Man I freaking loving Fire Emblem FW started with Cai,I am loving the characters 🔥

Me listening to Micha talking about Fire Emblem FW 😂😂🙏❤️ much love guys!!

Micah maybe you shouldn’t have played Dawnwalker first

MICAH if you want non stop enjoyable turn based tactical battles with minimal fluff try Mewgenics. It came to Switch recently and it's damn good. It IS a rouge like though. But I've been enjoying it more than FE. It is too much fluff in between and playing Trails at the same time made Fire Emblems dialogue seem worst. So give it a try.

An Even Taller Brad

If anyone is planning on playing or might consider playing Fire Emblem Fortune's weave, I highly suggest picking Cai first, at least for a few chapters. The only reason I suggest this is it seems the game expected everyone to pick him first, so his playthrough opens up the city much more slowly over time, teaching you how all the different activities and stuff work instead of just dumping you in the city and letting you do whatever like in Leda's (and to a lesser extent Theodora's) paths.

An Even Taller Brad

From what I understand completing an entire path also cuts down the tedium when you move to the other paths as well - many people are recommending fully completing them one at a time.

Couldn't agree more. I love him and his band of characters and their stories/personalities. He is pretty clearly meant to be the first character chosen based on how slowly they introduce all the free time mechanics to Cai compared to the other characters.

Micah - don’t do chapter by chapter switching. You do PART 1 fully then switch and they go a lot quicker due to upgrades. If you don’t want to engage in the social stuff - just auto-activity until the main quest.

Some constructive feedback, but I do think the FE discussion highlighted the main weakness of this podcast - it needs to be hosted by someone that’s either Nintendo first / will at least keep up with 1st party releases. I don’t care that Micah doesn’t really like it yet. Genuinely, doesn’t matter to me. She articulated why pretty well and is open to giving it another go. But the fact there’s no real pushback from another host is disappointing. It’s a headline game for the machine and (by most accounts) a clear GOTY contender. I’d expect a flagship Nintendo podcast to have more to say about it. I think Brad does a great job, I like the show and I’ll keep listening - but I see similar criticisms of the show and this episode did highlight that for me.

Micah, you should not feel pressured to play Fire Emblem. If you’re not feeling it that’s ok. When I tried 3 Houses I hate the Persona type social connection stuff. I just wanted to play the game. I had to stop and realized it’s not for me. Just like you didn’t like the need to grind in FF Tactics
