Prove Yourself, You Are the Move You Make | Sacred Symbols, Episode 434

The first bomb has dropped following the Saudi Wealth Fund's purchase of American publisher Electronic Arts, and it's a Canadian studio that suffers the consequences. As predicted, EA has decided to shutter long-running RPG-centric studio BioWare, cancel its forever-percolating Mass Effect title, and instead double-down on sports franchises and shooters. None of this is surprising, of course -- the EA purchase is the largest leveraged buyout in the history of human economics and strapped the company with potentially-insurmountable loads of debt -- but something still has to give. Can an all-new EA rise to the moment in a culture and environment that seems increasingly hostile to predictable and repeatable games? Or is the culling of BioWare only foreshadowing the bloodletting to come? Other news this week includes the potential high cost of PlayStation 6, specious rumors of Sony's acquisition of the Kena IP, Wolverine's strong sales showing, and more. Then, we wrap things up (as we always do) with listener inquiries. Could PlayStation withstand a concentrated attack on the PSN during Grand Theft Auto VI's launch? Will Sony blunt the cost of PS6 by offering payment plans? Which engines and other technologies do the first party studios rely upon? Is Chris ready to disavow the Ritual Network once and for all? A new episode of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast launches each Friday morning. One of my favorite things about Colin is his love for 80s music. I wish there would be an episode where he just talked about his top bands and songs from that era.

The closure of Bioware is not a shocker to anyone. Veilguard was an abysmal wreck of a video game. This is good news. Let the dead die, and rest. Woke anything turns everyone off. Developers, stop shoving it down our throat or you're next! I'm looking at you Insomniac.

An ad on my patreon video? What sorcery is this?

I'm upset that their really isn't going to be another Mass Effect game. I honestly doubt EA would sell the IP. As they seem to hoard it all and do nothing with

To the people who are complaining about the call-in show, please shut up. Thank you 👍

Chris should read "Sufferings in Afrika". It's a great non-fiction adventure. Hard to believe it actually happened until you look into the character of the author and his companions!

Aaron Myers

Dawn French getting a mention on Sacred Symbols, never in a million years of bingo cards.

For real. There's skip for a reason.

I feel like Chris read a comment complaining about making random noises, and only being able to agree with Colin. And then proceeded to do that way more than normal to specifically annoy that commenter.
