Is Hideo Kojima teasing something big? It seems like that could definitely be the case. The intrigue surrounds an unknown studio called Blue Box, a game dev no one has ever heard of named Hasan Karahman, and... well... maybe Silent Hill? We honestly have no clue, but the evidence is frankly rampant and impossible to ignore, and we go into all of it. We also discuss Bethesda's Pete Hines' words about PlayStation gamers losing access to their titles, the political destruction of Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthorn, the increasing likelihood of Bluepoint's Demon's Souls Remake coming to PS4, rumors about PSVR2's release window, Cyberpunk 2077's inglorious return to the PSN, and more. Also: Listener inquiries! Did PlayStation make the right call by not going to E3? Is Colin a hypocrite for how he feels about Resident Evil's Wesker? Do games ever make us cry? Which of the three of us would most likely survive a zombie apocalypse

The timestamp to skip the political conversation around Scott Cawthorn is 0:44:46

Video is just a few minutes behind and will be up ASAP.

Excellent X Files reference in the title - I expect a full knockback series now ;)

Josh Frampton

Been waiting for this. Thank you

Jacob

ive been following this whole Kojima Blue Box kerfuffle since the abandoned trailer two months ago and it is more interesting than anything that happened at e3. truth or sham its been a lot of fun!

Adamthm

I will say this. Mass effect 3 made me cry a lot .

Cole Barker

I heard Chris say you shaved and now I need the video lol

Anonymous

Hey, my birthday is June 23rd too!

Evan Bederman

10/10 cover art. It's ones like this that really make me upset that Patreon's RSS doesn't include the custom episode artworks :'(

Nyczombie

When's the video dropping??

NotSkyWalker

On Sep 16 2020, a Bethesda.net article from Anne Lewis (Senior Content Manager) writes (regarding Deathloop), " Console exclusivity is for a limited time. Not available on other consoles until one year after release date." This was (obviously) written a long time ago, so I do not know if this has been altered since this post, but thought I would share as it comes directly from Bethesda staff.

Kenneth Oms

I understand what Chris was trying to say in regards to Scott. The reason isn’t because Scott sees this as an out from the franchise, he left because people were threatening to doxx him because his address was visible on the donation page and his wife is six weeks pregnant. He says she’s been struggling with this pregnancy and that the anxiety from reading people’s threatening tweets was making the pregnancy more difficult.

AllTooEasy_

Metro Exodus getting the PS5 treatment, Colin you jumping in?

Matthew La Canfora

*Cawthon* not Cawthorn. Small correction from a guy who always has his last name butchered as well. Can't wait to dig into this week's episode! Keep up the great work guys!

VanguardDuelist

I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed Stranger of Paradise. Plus playing with the Japanese voices is much better than the English voices. As for Chris' comment about the character's clothing, that becomes a non-issue since new gear changes the character's appearance. Its still in its early stages, but I liked the MP system in the demo and it definitely feels more like Nioh than Dark Souls.

Mike Childs

honestly Chris didn't even need to stop at the Skyrim on PS3 example. even with the special Edition today, Xbox and PC are still the best places to play that game because of how Sony restricted modding capabilities for that game.

Romeo

Starfield was announced for PS5 back on october/november. Not only that, Bethesda talked about how happy they were in working with the console and how amazing Starfield was gonna run on it (this also contradicts Todd Howard and his recent comments about how it's better for their games to be out of the PS platforms). Some of their employees went on a tweet parade. I remember seeing that and feeling great as a Bethesda fan. I preordered my PS5 on my local Best Buy, and then like a week later found out that Microsoft bought ZeniMax. Tweets were gone.

Romeo

Oh, and as an Elder Scrolls and Fallout fan, Hines can go fuck himself. Todd too.

AllTooEasy_

As a “PS Fanboy” annoyed about the Bethesda acquisition, it’s more about losing access to DOOM, Wolfenstein, Elder Scrolls and Fallout after having access to it for years. Keep your Redfalls, Preys, and even Starfields. I have loved Dishonored and Rage franchises but they can go be on Microsoft. But DOOM is a cornerstone in gaming its the origin story of the FPS, Fallout and ES are THE Western RPG to play for years. I’ll take my PlayStation exclusives because it feels like it rewards the people in the ecosystem for years. Microsoft is a mega Corp blinded by the all mighty dollar and rips the rug out from others. I could keep going but no, end rant.

Anonymous

Neither the video or audio will play for me, what a bummer I was really excited for this episode covering the Blue Box stuff :/

Plissken

Colin! Konami's merch twitter account has literally started teasing new Silent Hill merch.

Stephen Forgione

Definitely going to want confirmation from another source if Deathloop is a permanent console exclusive. If that’s the case I wonder if it’ll even be on PC gamepass

Big titty drinker

People treat xbox and playstation like sports teams lol. They want Microsoft and sony to " win " the console war so they can talk shit online. It's pretty fun to participate in if you enjoy trolling but when I'm being an adult it is all pretty stupid.

Ian (616Entertainment)

On the topic of exclusives and the apology and whatnot, man, I'd be totally cool if the age of exclusives died entirely. I know it's a business move, you need games to help sell your console, I'm just being hypothetical. As a PlayStation guy, I wish Xbox people could play The Last Of Us or Uncharted or Ratchet, etc. They're great games. How does it hurt me if more people have access to them, right? When The Show opened up, I thought it was great. There's no good reason why Xbox and Nintendo people didn't have a good baseball sim. It's anti-consumer, in a certain regard. We can all share, and we can all get along. Good show, guys.

Lucas Gremista

Great show guys! I only have one small comment on the politics topic: Colin, you mentioned you would vote and donate for the Republican candidate in your state. Wouldn’t it be risky to affirm that now? You don’t know who the candidate is, and voting for a party is the problem in the US, when we should always vote for the person and their ideas. If the Republican candidate turns out to be a person with a really dark past or present, this can look bad on you even if you don’t mean it. Have a great weekend CDC!!

Michael Buffill

Im with you Colin, that last convo between Ellie and Joel in TLOU2 really pulled the emotional strings.

Yulian Santana

Hearing Chris arguments on exclusives was close minded. Not that he’s wrong in a sense but I would take ip exclusives over buying a goddamn publisher. Dustins argument on FF being bought its true but xbox started that type of deal with tomb rider last gen.

Jake Z

PS5 owners upset about cross-gen ports are no different than the Sony fans who complained about first party PC ports or Xbox fans who complained about Ori going to Switch. It's petty fanboy whining about their console being slightly devalued and nothing more.

TL

100% on the kill barriers and hidden walls in R&C. As a first time player of the franchise, that’s the one off putting thing.

Edwin Magana

Kingdom Hearts Fans… Stand By and Stand Down!

Brandon Soto

Pete Hines basically told every PlayStation-Bethesda fan to eat shit & if they don’t like it, then they can get over it. If I were them, I would pray that Deathloop & Ghostwire Tokyo both bomb, and that Starfield is another bust.

Zack E

I know we can fast forward. I know it’s in the news. But it’s exhausting listening to anything political. Can we keep it to SS+ at least?

Trevor Bolstad

Per the Xbox Series S topic: I pre-ordered a Series S knowing full well I would get the PS5 too ASAP. I bought it as my first Xbox console ever bc I wanted to try out Game Pass and some exclusives I’d missed out on without breaking the bank. I’d thought the weaker performance would be fine, but the more I play with the bells and whistles of the PS5 (ray tracing, 60 FPS, etc.) the more I want to upgrade to the powerful Series X when they’re readily available. Hope this provides some interesting insight on who owns Series S consoles other than toddlers lol.

Shawn Kelvey Jr

I think BioWare made the legendary edition for mass effect to get the saves on the new systems to transfer the data to the new mass effect. That has to be Liara at the end of that teaser trailer picking up Shepard’s helmet piece.

Anonymous

Can someone please tell Colin that if he syncs his save on ps5 for FF7 remake then his trophies will sync 👀

Max Stahl

This won't stop with the Five Nights at Freddie's guy. They came for you, and they'll come for Chris one day. Keep standing firm! Good on you for talking about it. I don't know about most of the Bernie left, but there is a movement coalescing against this phenomenon.

Wayde

Liking chili's is like liking McDonald's as the best Burger place it's absolutely absurd. I've been to a chili's twice in my life and it is subpar applebee's equivalent. Makes me wonder sometimes if you guys even like good food or know what that is.

The Late Nate

The only game to make me actually cry and not just well up but like tears streaming down my face was the High Honour ending for RDR2 before the start of the epilogue. Arthur's story was phenomenal and the High Honour ending was just picture perfect to me. I very much doubt I'll ever be moved that much by a game again. P.S. Shoutout to the Paragon ending of the Tuchanka arc in ME3 for doing a happy sad ending quite well

Dakota Brown

Shout out to everyone that likes chili’s. Best fuckin restaurant!

Anthony J Sanchez

As a pure centrist myself, I can't stand cancel culture. Colin, I appreciate you discussing these subjects in a fair and understanding matter. Thank you so much.

Kaleb

Just wanna say Capcom, Bandai Namco and Take Two all said what they were showing well in advance. I think too many people didn't bother reading the schedule beside who was going when.

NeO JD
>>62186146

100%. I didn’t get how “pros” in the business didn’t understand what was going on when I saw the tweets well prior. That said, they shouldn’t have done them anyway lol

NeO JD

Micah trying to irk your dad sounds cute. Like an episode of a sitcom. Makes me think of like a Moriarty Family roundtable where everybody is gathered for food and throwing subtle jabs. Whoa! 😄

Andy T

Really liked the measured chat re the Five nights at freddys bloke- sharing thoughts and ideas respectfully is just awesome to hear. The latest “jimquistion” is a perfect example of why we can’t have any type of debate anymore- I think Sterling is having a complete psychotic break by saying things like the “the American government is doing everything it can to destroy LGBTQ people. And If you dare disagree with him, you’re a bigot or homophobe or whatever else. Anyway- thanks guys for being the bastion of reasoned debate and general good podcasting.

Phil Walker

I havnt heard or read anything to suggest that Deathloop is anything more than a timed exclusive.

Carlos Quintanilla

The end of Yuriko's quest line in Ghost of Tsushima hit me like a ton of bricks. After losing my grandma earlier that year, it unexpectedly struck me. Only game that made me legitimately weep.

Hose A Contra Razz

President Trump was the first president to run pro gay marriage before being president, had the 1st gay director of intelligence agency, the current administration will tell you it’s Pete Buttbige as transportation director

Piston Pants

Colin ditch the beard and just go mustache. On a gaming note I have no trust in CDPR so I wont play Cyberpunk until it has a native Ps5 version and years of patches after that. See ya in 2024.

FluffyNeko

About the Blue Box theories, the creator of Siren Head, Trevor Henderson, made a funny tweet about him working on Silent Hill but he did say that Siren Head being wrapped up in this conspiracy is so weird and funny.

Derek Alcott

Sad Hill lmao. That's Gold, Jerry! Gold!

Dylan Neves

Hopefully you guys (Colin, Dustin) get around to FF7 INTERmission. It fleshes out Yuffie in a way Part 2 likely won't given she was an optional character in the OG FF7. It's also just plain fun, awesome, and Fort Condor is great.

Adam Razak

I unsubscribed from Sterling last year, and the little I've seen from last week's Jimquisition centered around the situation makes me glad I did. Not even 5 minutes into it and Sterling makes a visual association between Christians and the fucking KKK. Like...what the hell...

Anonymous

I just wanna add something to the discussion about Pete Hines. Chris talked about how the Sony fanbase had a negative reaction to the starfield exclusivity. We need to remember that most of the people complaining online are part of the vocal minority. I've seen something similar when articles broke about the hate that Alanah Pierce received online because of the God of war delay. One of those articles was saying that the gaming community was harassing Alanah when in reality it was just the vocal minority that was complaining and harassing her.

LastStandMedia
>>62116972

I'd also like that confirmation, but I can tell you it's not been explicitly announced for another platform.

LastStandMedia
>>62118304

It's just not possible. Things are folding together such that the exclusives will soon literally be all that differentiates them.

LastStandMedia
>>62139836

I don't know what more you could possibly want than us warning you and providing you with audio, visual, and written timestamps. No offense, Zack, but don't be lazy.

Travis B

In a world fueled by virtue signaling and diversity for the sake of diversity, can we honestly believe that these tokenizations are based purely on acting chops and merit??? Add in the fact that Hollywoke* is crumbling and many in charge of adaptations either don’t care about source material or are completely oblivious to it. I think it is quite relatable to star wars fans getting upset by the prequels or the new trilogy. It just takes on a life of its own because of race/gender when really fans are pissed because they feel hijacked by writers/producers who dont give a shit.

Carlos Moreno

If the new silent hill is real and it's using concept art by junji ito then were in for a hell of a ride

Jack Sibert

Playstations are like PCs at this point- there IS a reason to own a PS5 if you're interested in playing games at max settings with fast loading. When I upgraded my graphics card in my PC a while back I wasn't like "aw man there was no reason to do that I could have played the same games in my old graphics card". The games are markedly better on the new one I don't get the whole "there's no reason to own a PS5 right now" thing. You're experiencing the games at max settings with non-existent load times.

BakerShop

Dustin..... Oh Dustin. Why Dustin?

Owen

Like I have no problem agreeing that writer at Kotaku is nothing short of terrible. They’re awful. But this isn’t the first rant we’ve gotten around lgbtq identity stuff. While the rant is ended with “we welcome everyone” it sometimes doesn’t feel that way. Mitch McConnell does not have a good gay rights voting record. And while that kotaku writer was speaking hyperbolically i feel like it’s wrong to get mad at that, but not also recognize Mitch does not share Last Stand Medias stance of “we welcome everyone.” He has stated openly he believes in “traditional marriage,” he’s voted against employment protections, voted against repealing don’t ask dont tell. Etc. Like he is not welcoming of gay people and that should be acknowledged if we’re gonna have this type of conversation.

David Taylor

As a primarily Xbox player I think it sucks that Playstation fans are not going to be getting Bethesda titles. But I look at it like this. You have said before about Sony not acquiring studios something along the lines of 'why buy the cow when you can get the milk...', and this is where Microsoft was left as a huge disadvantage at the beginning of the generation. There was no milk, Sony bought all of it. They, presumably deliberately, went around and bought timed exclusivity for almost every single third party next generation only release. All Xbox was able to get any rights to was 6 months of exclusivity on The Medium which was nothing to write home about. So what can they do at that point? Open a new studio and maybe get a game out by the middle of the generation? They have a longstanding history with Bethesda and Sony had already secured the rights to the first 2 next gen games in Deathloop and Ghostwire and were for sure working on getting Starfield. I guarantee they would have also gone for and probably gotten Redfall leaving, again, no milk whatsoever. So, whether out of desperation or just a money flex, Microsoft did what Microsoft can, bought the whole farm. Again it sucks that PS may not get Wolfenstein 3 or ES6 or the next Doom, but what are the odds Xbox gets a Sunset Overdrive sequel if Insomniac makes one? I imagine pretty slim. What about all the new studios opening up that are in exclusive partnerships with Sony? Are they really denying an entire platform because Playstation Studios make quality games? Or because Sony cut them a check? I wanted to play those games so I bought a PS5, if I was only a PS5 player I would prolly buy an Xbox as well just for those. I know some people are against it but on a plus side it seems like they are offering plenty of alternatives to people who absolutely don't want to buy an Xbox.

Joshua Fielder

Great episode as always. Its funny to hear about technical issues with ratchet. I beat it almost twice with the Plat and didn't really have any issues with bugs. In regards to the clank sections I had to add they there have always or almost always been clank sections so it's nothing new.

Charles White

I'm getting a little annoyed with the attitude towards games being brought backwards. If you feel like the games you've been getting haven't been good, then yeah go ahead and complain but if you've been okay with what you've been playing then why complain? One of the write ins said they bought the ps5 withe the notion that they'd only be able to play demon souls on PS5? If the games comes to ps4 then just sell your console then.... and enjoy playing that game in a weakned state. I bought the ps5 because I knew my games would look better and that with the pedigree of Sony prior that I would want to play games looking their best.

David Taylor

I just finished the episode and when Chris said 'Ceasar Romero Zombies' I laughed loud enough that my coworkers thought I was crazy.

Oliver Johnson

I played through the entire R&C series leading up to Rift Apart and I’ve got to say, it would’ve been a disappointment if they got rid of the Clank puzzles. Also Hard mode on this was equivalent to Normal on every other game in the series.

LastStandMedia
>>62296399

The problem is that all argument about talent or fit comes down to race or gender, and it's reductive, boring, and stupid.

LastStandMedia
>>62337363

Again: I don't support candidates for all of their positions, and I wouldn't expect anyone else to, either. If LGBT people don't feel welcome here, that's on them, but we're certainly not behaving in a way that would suggest they aren't. We don't talk disparagingly about people, we don't draw lines in the sand or divide our audience, etc. So, respectfully, I find that hogwash. <3

LastStandMedia
>>62354073

I honestly think Microsoft just saw a great opportunity to make a huge splash, and they did. Bethesda is the biggest gaming acquisition in the history of the industry.

Owen
>>62337363

I don’t think it’s hogwash to say if you’re going to bring up Mitch McConnell in reference to lgtq issues it should be mentioned that he is not in support of their issues. That’s not drawing a line in the sand, it was relevant to the conversation.

Hugo Stiglitz
>>62405849

I agree but I also believe some of its ease of difficulty is down to the much improved mobility the 2 lombax have in combat. The dash mechanic especially makes evading fire relatively easy to do consistently. At the same time, that dash mechanic is also what gave RA the best combat in the series IMO. Just wish I knew to play it on the hardest difficulty instead.
