Resident Evil Village Review and Story Discussion | Sacred Symbols+ Episode 100

Eastern Europe has never been explored in Resident Evil, that is until the launch of RE Village, known colloquially as RE8. In a direct sequel to 2017's Resident Evil 7, players once again find themselves in the role of the mysterious Ethan Winters, this time as he chases an undead mystery many thousands of miles from Louisiana. What he finds on the other end of his voyage is a small, seemingly-abandoned town run by a Christian Orthodox-like cult-of-personality, and... well... the zombie slaughter-fest ensues. Colin was right the other day, as much as I like spoilercast for games I've played, it bums me to miss an episode when I didn't. This one will go to the backlog if I ever play it. Was happy to go back to Miles Morales 2 months after it was released when I finally got around to play it, was a great episode just like I am sure this one is.

Resident Evil VIII was one of those games where I enjoyed it while playing it, and even did a rare (for me) second run to get some more trophies, including a speed run trophy which I never do. After the fact though, upon reflecting, I was pretty disappointed from plot perspective.

Resident Evil 9: Mold Boy and Mold Girl would be an awesome sequel ;)

Chris never looks the same. It’s like a different person each episode. Would never be able to recognize him if I saw him in person. What the problem is?

The resident evil is headed towards a reset by just continuing the story. I believe capcom said they weren’t going to make games with the old protagonists anymore and that it would be new characters going forward dealing with the outcomes of the last games. Umbrella is no more but now there’s that new shadow group that has taken over Chris’ organization. I just don’t know how to feel about it because it’s afraid the story is getting to arcade like. The last games had a lot of mystery that made it cool but idk if that can be done again

I don't really understand why lady D would be the most interesting character, she wasnt that great to me, and everyone already had predicted she would turn into some big ass monster for the boss fight, but also it might have just been the memes that ruined her for me

This has nothing to do with RE, but I just want Colin to know something: I just realized that *every* single day, at some random point of the day, my subconscious spontaneously pops up the following thought into my mind: “The only person on Earth that could MAYBE help Jaffe see that Critical Race Theory sucks, is Colin.” 😆😂 He’s pretty far gone though on the whole “if you’re white in America, you are r4cist, even if you don’t expressly dislike black people” thing. Keeping my fingers crossed that some savior will cross paths w/him and show him the error of his ways 😁😅👼 . (Not all his ways. Even though I disagree with a gigantic portion of his progressive bullsht, I can kinda understand them. I can’t wrap my head around the CRT thing though. And I clearly love the guy.)

It's just too convoluted... and not even really all that interesting. Doing a total reboot would be cool.

I'm more about her setting (the castle) then her. I'd have loved for that to be longer and further into the game.

LastStandMedia

I haven't talked to him in a couple of weeks! When we chat again on his show or mine, maybe it'll come up, who knows. =)

The little details in this were fantastic! -The fact that Lady D mentions how Ethans blood tastes stale (because he’s dead) but the daughters love it (because they’re bugs). Even referencing Ethan as “man-thing” -Mia having no reaction to getting shot because she’s really Miranda. A lot of other things too but such a fantastic, quality AAA game.

Cool, I am looking forward to getting village, then I'll listen to this episode. I loved re4 and re7 and re2 remake

Tangent: Anyone know the closest I can get to an Xbox Elite controller for the PS5? I can’t deal with the parallel sticks & I need the paddles. I’ve looked into Scuff. This is not a troll, I’m seriously looking. Thank you all

Cash

The console is too new and too scarce for a niche product like this -- It'll be a couple years.

BlindRiot

Yeah, I figured just thought I’d maybe missed something.

Great episode. I really enjoyed Village but I must admit, the pacing got me too. It will be interesting to see what the DLC entails, maybe more Lady D content now that they have seen the way fans and the internet at large have taken to her?

On the guy's point about the ammunition and the classic Resident Evil feel not being present, having been a huge fan since the very first game, I felt very much the same, but midway through the castle I changed the difficulty to Hardcore and it was very much like the first games. I even restarted my first playthrough after that. I feel like as time goes by, not many people are looking for this in games, but it's nice they kept it alive by cranking up the difficulty. Good show guys!

Keep an eye out for updates to the XIM Apex. If they can crack the DualSense encryption, they should be able to enable cross-controller play like it works on PS4 and XBO/Series

Anyone else think RE8 borrowed A LOT from Outlast 2? The setting, antagonist, baby plot, etc?
