Wire Act | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 159

Fresh off the further reveal of the slick-looking timed-PS5 exclusive Deathloop comes word of another Bethesda-published timed exclusive that's being pushed further into the horizon. Tango Gamework's PlayStation 5 horror project Ghostwire: Tokyo has been delayed into 2022, perhaps not a huge surprise, but one worth delving into particularly when it comes to where this game fits in the PlayStation 5 catalog to come. How annoying must it be for Microsoft to have its new prized jewel publisher be working without the full force of two of its teams? We discuss. Plus: A new Nintendo-themed fighting game has everyone talking, Persona is reading a salvo of announcements in celebration of its 25th anniversary, Polyphony Digital may be quietly revving-up a Gran Turismo 7 beta, and more. Then: Will PlayStation Experience ever return? Have we ever used PlayStation 5's 'Accolades' system? Is there such a thing as the Reverse Platinum Trophy? Who will be hungriest by the end of the show? Get some Sacred Symbols merch! https://LastStandMedia.shop A new episode of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast launches each Friday morning. My ring tone was soul survivor by Akon

I’m stoked for the steam handheld as a portable emulation machine. It’s sounding like you’ll be able to do stuff like that on there. Be able to play emulated SNES, PS1, PS2 games on it. I also have crap loads of PC games i don’t play because i cannot stand sitting at a computer to play a game, maybe because i work at a computer all day. Could not be more excited

My ringtone was also Soul Survivor by Akon!

David Graham

I can corroborate Dustin's explanation of Pittsburghese.

Caleb Greer

My text tone is EDI from Mass Effect saying in her British accent, “Commander you’ve got a new message at your private terminal.” My ringtone is simply Dr Wily’s Castle Theme from Mega Man 2.

JD
>>63897718

haha I love the EDI alert. Is there an easy way to find that audio line?

Stephen Forgione

Colin will you or any of LSM get the Steam Deck? Support of this device may convince Sony to give handhelds another go since technically Microsoft is now in handhelds (with all Xbox games on Steam, and a possible game pass app to boot).

Angel DeJesus

Colin, you didn't play anymore Doki Doki? I was really hoping you'd get to the good parts and talk about them this week.

Angel DeJesus

Ok. FYI theres been 3 updates this week. I had one trophy pop the other day after the second. Now I just need to secret ending to get that trophy, then the platinum should pop

Toren R. (KESA)

Just took a peek at the Nicholas Grayson tweets.... As expert in violence (Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, Undef Boxer, Kick Boxer, MMA) I am always BAFFLED by people who have never actually fought another human, but feel comfortable throwing threats around. "Popped in the mouth"????? Talk like this should never, ever be offered lightly.

Liam Mcnulty

I enjoyed watching Dustin come to the realisation that the ones on Twitter, who virtue signal, that preach about diversity, inclusion, being kind and social justice are *always* the most intolerant and hateful people you'll ever interact with. I just found it amusing seeing the penny drop in real time with this revelation lol. The ones who feel the need to virtue signal about how kind they are, usually do it because they have skeletons in their closet.

Yeah, well I have a combat trophy for the 50x free flow combo in Batman Arkham Asylum, so I'd knock you out. Wanna get popped in the mouth!? 😂

Shawn

Colin! Please do a Sacred Symbols Plus episode about blue box! Theres so much weird shit going on and I think that would be great content. I've gone from team real to team fake to team I have no fucking idea! Hope you guys do it. Great episode today Boys.

Campbell Parker

I thought you'd be interested to know that Tencent has also bought a minority stake in Bohemia Interactive (which has made a couple of Playstation games (Day-Z etc)), but they also have a studio called Bohemia Interactive Simulations that makes training sims for various Western Militaries.

Kaleb

Funny enough another game like Persona that lost its main team after it was really gaining traction was Kingdom Hearts after Kingdom Hearts 2. They made a banger and got thrown on other games and we got stuck with the guys who made the handheld games ever since.

Cannonball_Jones

Just saying, if you did come here to Boise I would be so incredibly stoked! I remember you off-handedly saying something about coming here during your KF years so it’s exciting to know that’s floating around still. You can come see the blue turf!

JT

You guys just spent all your time in literally the worst parts of California! I cant take L.A. or the bay for more than two days at a time.

Julian Zhu

Hey guys. At the end of the show here, and it sucks to hear about the image that is portrayed for you guys and the audience. I've been a long time fan of Last Stand's content, and as someone who is gay, diverse, and maybe has some differing political views here and there to Colin or others, I've never once... not once felt like the community, hosts and content here was not inclusive and positive. In fact I feel as if, from what I've observed, it's one of the best spaces in gaming/gaming media for the coexistence and discussion of differing views on various topics, gaming related or political. Counter to the belief of the hivemind, I really don't understand the hate. Anyways, I just felt like it was something you guys should hear -- and as Colin said... never shut up. Much love and keep up the great work.

Hey CDC, Hope all is well. I live in Japan and can confirm that CDs are still big here. One of my favorite Japanese bands, Dir En Grey, hardly releases anything digitally (you can't even buy most of their music on Itunes and almost nothing of theirs is on Spotify). Here, they also have CD rentals at some of the DVD rental stores. There are two DVD rental stores within reach of my apartment. For context I live about two hours north of Tokyo by train, I'm still in the same region as Tokyo. One last thing the local McDonalds didn't take credit cards until October of 2018, you could pay with cash or some charge cards. Thanks for all the great content. Gerald

Zack Fair

Higham talked shit about you and Sophia about the easy mode tweet you put out Colin. It was completely laughable what he said

Tony Rivera

I like the beard length Colin - I mean, you did well with the Kratos beard before, but the length in this one looks perfect. I am biased as my length is kept there - I can't grow a long one like yours because I cannot get past the itch with my coarse hairs. LOL - anywho, great episode

Paul Robertson

You mentioned coming to Kentucky, please do! I will provide bourbon.

I'm triggered by the Jaguar discussion. English is not my first language but I just can't fathom where that extra syllable is coming from. Just pronounce is as it is written: JAGUAR. No extra E necessary. If you have doubts, you can go to google translate and let it read the word to you.

Germanos

Here you are Colin. The data you asked for: https://www.raphkoster.com/2018/01/17/the-cost-of-games/?utm_source=pocket-app&utm_medium=share And here's a thing about the market: 'As noted by many industry insiders, the traditional console gaming market hasn’t grown much in the last two to three decades. Instead, what we have is a market with an install base of roughly 250-300 million that gets traded between the big three. Sometimes, it’s PlayStation with more users, other generations it’s Nintendo, but it’s never less than 200 million and it’s yet to surpass 300 million." http://www.sohrabosati.com/blog/cloud-gaming-will-not-save-the-video-game-industry-part-2 (shared by Shawn Layden via Twitter)

The boys missed the boat on steam deck. The appeal is for playstation users, the mod and rom community will make portable ps,2,3 and possibly 4 rips on the steam deck.

Adam Campbell

Hey CDC. In regards to the discussion of the Steam Deck’s target audience, I just wanted to share my personal take. I’ve picked up a decent amount of games on Steam over the years because of all the ridiculous sales, but I haven’t had a PC that could really run anything current in years. I’ve never enjoyed playing games in front of a computer, so I stick with playing my consoles from the comfort of my couch, or playing handheld systems. (I play the switch 99% in handheld mode). I also don’t have an Xbox, so the idea of a handheld system that can play my entire current steam library, as well as exclusives that won’t be coming to my Sony or Nintendo systems is perfect for me.

Moonshot Md

Have you guys played Acardegeddon? I am interested to here your thoughts.

Ey! You finally talked about a game I'm working on! Took you long enough! Started listening to the IGN family of podcasts around Game Scoop 100 and have been waiting for this moment for a while. Edit: It's Nick Brawl.

Nygile Oliver

Fun fact about that Johnny agency, they're known for editing out their talent from digital versions of magazines lmao. Like if their talent did a shoot for a paper magazine, they'll go in and turn them into a silhouette for the digital version, it's insane

Chrono484

Damn as soon as I found out they were already sold out! FML 😕

jab

Hope we get extended thoughts on the Steam Deck from you Colin. I got major Vita vibes from it with the whole idea of console-quality games on the go! GIve the thumbsticks a chance!

Kaz Redclaw

The steamdeck is definitely in the same performance tier as as PS4, except it is more modern in its tech. I don't think the stick position will be too much of a problem. I think they had to move them up to fit the touchpads in. There's already Sony software that will work on it, Horizon, Days Gone... This is kind of the portable that I've been waiting for. There's plenty of games that are cross platform between Switch, Vita, and Steam that would be great for this system. There's also just tons of indie games that haven't reached any portable console, but would be ideal for portable use. This would also be a retro emulation box as well, RetroArch should be available straight from the steam store for it, and you can already buy a bunch of Genesis games for it from the steam store. Personally, the first things I'll probably play on it will be the Trails in the Sky 3rd and Ys: Arc of Naphistim games. The former was on portables in Japan, but not released here, and the latter was on PSP here, but should perform much better on Steamdeck. I'll also probably pick up the trails games due next year for it. SteamOS was already in my top 3 for systems to buy new games on, but I think I'll be getting even more games for it now. I'd love a new Sony handheld that could run PS4 games, but I don't think they're going to bother.

Not sure if this is the place to post corrections but here goes :P In the wrap-up at the end, Colin mentioned that FIFA 22 is the series’ first native foray onto PS5 which isn’t accurate. FIFA 21 last year received a free upgrade to a next-gen PS5 version that came out in December, several months after the PS4 version. But I thought you’d might find this next bit interesting (or at least worth discussing). FIFA 22 is indeed getting a native PS5 version as well, except this year it costs an extra 10 pounds/dollars, depending on where you live. And EA has also decided to lock the PS4 to PS5 upgrade behind a paywall in the Ultimate Edition which costs roughly 30 pounds/dollars. In other words, if you're moving from PS4 and PS5 next year and play FIFA your options are either to get the Ultimate Edition to get both versions of the game for some extra cash. Or just buy it twice, once on each console. This seems like a pretty shitty practice given that last year the upgrade was free. Anyways, thanks for another great episode! Cheers guys

On trophies that you avoid getting, there's a game called Factorio that has a trophy for getting run over by a locomotive and killed. It's something that happens a lot in the game if you're not being super cautious every time you cross a train track. I managed to get every other trophy in the game except that one, and then made a big ceremony of setting up a train on a short stretch of track, taking my armor off, and having it run me over to get the last trophy. Of course, it failed the first time because I had designed all my trains backwards, so that the train was pushing the cargo containers, I had to reverse a train before it ran me over and gave me the trophy.

The Eclectic Gamer

Colin you should definitely shop your proposed essay on the CCP‘s influence on the gaming industry to the Wall Street Journal editorial pages… I think you’d have a good shot there

DevilsClaw1991

I just wanna say that I preordered Steam Deck, so I can finally play all the PC-exclusive visual novels and some indie games that I would never bother with while sitting at my desktop. There is definitely a place for this kind of hardware, and I'm happy Valve is giving it a try.

LastStandMedia

They obviously moved it to fit the touch pads, but I'm telling you it'll be a problem for a lot of people. That's decades of muscle memory.

Kaz Redclaw
>>64103588

Possibly. I've been able to adapt fairly easily to the Wii U controller, Xbox One controller and the Steam controller, so hopefully this won't be too much extra work to switch to.
