The Foreshadowing | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 166

It's about time! Sony has revealed that it will be conducting a 40 minute PS5-centric presentation in the coming days, and it'll be our first real, showcase-like look at PlayStation 5 content since the console launched (in fact, since long before it launched). The question is therefore this: What should we expect? God of War and Gran Turismo 7 seem like obvious choices. A Deathloop launch trailer, too. But it's what we don't know about that's most exciting of all, particularly from first and second party studios where the possibilities are seemingly endless. Plus: Death Stranding 2 looks like a distinct possibility, PlayStation Plus' newest free game offerings are a step in the right direction, Final Fantasy is about to storm PlayStation Now, and much more. Then: What's the difference between a remaster, a remake, and a reboot? Speaking of definitions, how do we define shovelware and vaporware? Will live shows like PAX ever make a full return? Will Chris ever return, or did he float away? All of that and more, as -- per usual -- we litter our show with your inquiries. Besides the obvious God of War reveal my main hope for this event is 1 genuine suprise, 1 new IP and 1 old franchise returning. My hope would be a new Sly Cooper but MGS remake or Socom would also be cool

Rest In Peace to little Simon. I hope David and his wife are doing well. Jesus Christ. My heart sank when I heard this.

Ryan Harvey

Man, my heart goes out to David... :-( I agree about games being more meaningful than a lot of people give it credit for. Is really frustrating to see people talking about gaming as a "scourge" and saying gaming is such a waste of time recently pontificating on Chinas video game policy.

NotSkyWalker

Dustin is always on point, but he was extra on point today. 100% agree we can both simultaneously love & support PS 1st party games... but still call out the 'fuckery' as he eloquently put it. I do hope PS5s will be on shelves in the next half year... Hope y'all have a great weekend and live show! :)

Stephen Forgione

Shoutout Dustin for calling out Sony on this nonsense. Fully expecting a similar scenario for God of War and Gran Turismo. I’m thankful I have a PS5 so I can avoid the headache, but there shouldn’t be a headache to begin with. Either make the upgrades free or pay $10.

Walker Simmons

The Saints Row trailer just reminded me of the how do you do fellow kids meme

Hey C&D, I would like to say this is a good episode but I do believe you two should educate yourselves more on the Twitch Hate Raid situation. To me, as a black man, you both came off as dismissive of the problem. I understand y’all don’t know what’s exactly happening but it was really disheartening to see from you guys, who are white, can brush off the issue and keep the conversation towards the financial aspect of Twitch and its competition. I agree with your points about Twitch and Youtube competing. That said though Twitch has a long history of poor communication and not protecting its users especially POC & LGBTQ. People may take this comment however they will. I’m a big supporter of LSM. I just want you all to be more aware of what’s going on.

Straith

My two cents on the Halo Infinite situation. I think the campaign is going to be god awful. The multiplayer is probably going to be pretty good though based on what I've seen of the test flight.

Zack Fair

I'm expecting to see GOW, GranTurismo, more gameplay of the new HZD, FFXVI I think we'll see Deathloop just because it's right around the corner and I'm hoping for a new IP. Hoping to see PlayStation do something with PS Plus also

Liam Mcnulty

David, if you're reading this, I'm sorry for your loss, I can't imagine anything worse. Thoughts are with you and the family, for what that's worth. RIP little lad.

Zack Fair

One Greg Miller is a prominent person who has done EA presentations amongst others, cant believe a podcaster/Youtuber on their reviews when they get paid to come and hype a game up. Another one is Andrea Rene who is a EA Game changer. Also when Cyberpunk was all the rage, you saw Youtubers hype it up and get freebies. Shills!!

TheWebslinger

Hello C&D I'm sorry if you guys have touched on this before but will we be getting a video or a stream for the live event?

Ridiculous comment. I hate it when entitled people say "educate yourself" just because they don't agree with your warped worldview. Acting like white people can't recieve abuse online. There's a block button for a reason, use it. There was no need to racially insult Colin and Dustin.

FourEyes Malone
>>67140037

No intention of insulting anybody. It’s fine you think that way. I don’t see how I’m entitled based off what I said, But based off of your comment I don’t believe you understand exactly what is going on either. Also, I wouldn’t be paying for the Patreon if I had some racial issue with them.

Man I feel bad, I dmed dagan on IG hoping that he didn’t get hit by the storm too bad. Our town out here in north NJ got it bad. We were fortunate enough to have a home at the very top of a hill.

The Lizard King

Thank you for reading out my question guys. I am from the UK so correct you are Colin. Not listened to the episode as of yet so unsure what games you lot are currently playing but I am intrigued by your thoughts on Hades, if and when you play it.

I'm generally dismissive of problems wherein people dedicate one, flashy day (or week, or month, etc.) to the cause célèbre. If people truly have an issue with something, it's time we do the hard work of actually fixing things. I'm sorry you disagree, but that Twitch day is ultimately meaningless, and doesn't help get to the heart of the matter.

LastStandMedia

We will see! It's hard to believe that the game can be coherent with so many cooks in the kitchen over the years, but it's such a vital game that I also find it hard to believe that Microsoft would put it out without being great.

Whether or not they're shills, it comes off as shilling when you have such a close relationship with the people and the products you're supposed to be critically and honestly covering. That's just reality.

Zack Fair

Hope you all had a great time today guys!!! Wish I couldve been there but I'm in England

FourEyes Malone
>>67140037

No, thats not my talking point which I understand the initial question asked is what sparked my comments. I didn't make that clear. One day isn't going to fix anything. I felt personally the streamers who cared to, should be completely off the platform for longer. That wont happen though because many still need the money they get from streaming. I have seen streamers on Twitter saying they have been in contact with Twitch in regards to the issues. My issue was with people not caring or understanding what has been happening for it to have gotten to the point of a protest even starting in the first place.

Conor Campbell

Thanks for using my question! It's been something I have thought about for years since seeing someone at a games site disregard everything at an e3 with gameplay as looking bad, but saying everything the was pre rendered looked great. Then also when I had this conversation on a games design course at college, when one of the guys said a game looked great based on a cinematic. I hope it becomes a thing of the past and that more companies reveal a new game with gameplay. Many thanks, another great podcast!

Tony Rivera

Colin - just noticed the Astra shirt. Nice merch supporting Returnal. I still need to finish the 2nd ending in that game. Finally got all the sun disks and did the final "house" sequence. The gameplay is so good but dammit.. after so many attempts, the world (as fascinating as it is) just gets jaded.. I had this problem with the original Nioh. I wanted to like it but after playing through the same levels and set pieces over and over again just to finish the game, I got tired of it. When Nioh 2 came out, I didn't want to touch it with a 12-foot pole. LOL I don't think they will make a Returnal 2. And I'm grateful for it - despite how good it was. Hope you, Micah, and Rush are well. Take care man

Thanks. It's a one-of-a-kind shirt made with an asset Housemarque sent me personally, so that's kinda cool.

Too true, YouTube is now the best source of well informed people. Most concerning is that the person who did this now works for a Sony first party studio, let's hope they have become more knowledgeable since!
