Aliens | KnockBack: The Retro and Nostalgia Podcast Episode 205

Back in the late '70s, Ridley Scott and Dan O'Bannon released the seminal sci-fi horror movie Alien. It took more than half a decade to get a sequel off the ground, however, this time manned by none other than auteur James Cameron. It's with Aliens, with an S, that the quiet horror franchise-to-be became an action franchise with horror elements, and while it was a somewhat divisive move, there's no doubt that Aliens -- finally launched in 1986 -- is one of the best-regarded and most influential sci-fi and action movies ever made. So let's head back to LV-426, friends. The Xenomorphs aren't nearly done with humanity yet, and there's so much to discuss en route. A new episode of KnockBack launches each Monday morning. Ok - I may have been hitting refresh the last 5 minutes in anticipation of this release - Knockback is in the pipe 5 by 5

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I can't stand the Marine characters. They really kill this movie for me.

oh GOD I need to hear them review Prometheus, I need to know, this is awesome

An excellent discussion, although I think that horror, 'will you survive element' was partially present during the Marine's retreat sequence. An intense scene made all the better by James Horners score - "Last Standers we are leaving!!!"

I saw the puppet for the alien queen at Paul Allen’s sci-fi museum in Seattle as a kid, it was massive and scared the shit outta me. Great episode!

Correction: Ryan McCaffrey is a little notorious for NOT liking Alien: Isolation. He gave it a 5.9 on IGN. Despite that error, I still give this episode a 10. :)

Great episode. When i got to the question about how y’all would like to encounter aliens, I had something terrifying happen to me and my girlfriend when we lived in Astoria queens. The con Edison plant had a massive discharge, and the sky at night was glowing blue. I got up and looked out the window and said “honey look at this” in a shaking voice. I thought it was Independence Day. People outside of our apartment were stopping their cars in the middle of the road and getting out to look at the sky. It was the one time New Yorkers stopped to give a damn about something haha. The event made the news you should look it up so you can see the footage. The footage people got from the Manhattan side made it look like Queens was being visited by aliens. Look up con edison queens explosion on google.

I love listening to parts of knockback on half speed, because of their chemistry. It sounds like two drunk brothers hanging out & cracks me up.

Yeah it was in 2018. There are some really cool/scary videos and pictures of it.

Finally checking this out. Maybe someday we can get a Knockback on Alien 3. It got a lot of hate for creative decisions but it’s actually my favorite Alien film.

“You’re a US Marine, Bill Paxton… I know Marines, quite a few, it would be impossible for me to imagine they would breakdown.” Bit silly of an unnecessarily definitive opinion to have. It’s more common than you think— most of us are still human after all despite the accompaniment of the awesome machine-like devil dogs you’re thinking of lol. Loved the episode man! One of my fav films
