After much anticipation (and a short delay), Elden Ring has finally arrived. Coming off of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice, FromSoftware has returned with its most ambitious title to date. Elden Ring not only shocked the industry through its detailed and content-dense open world, but also their most dedicated fans. Over the past few weeks, the game has become a phenomenon, breaking out of the traditional gaming spheres and into mainstream conversation.

So in line with Last Stand tradition, I (Dustin) gathered your questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas to discuss this monumental game. For this show, I knew I needed to include some of the big guns, so I brought on Souls expert FightinCowboy and our very own MrMattyPlays to discuss the game. We hope you love it!

Note: The first 20 minutes are spoiler-free with an audible warning when spoilers begin.

Thank you for making the first 20 minutes spoiler free. God knows when i'll beat this game, but i'm hype to hear the discussion.

Derek Alcott

I can't wait to comeback and listen once I beat it.

Vinny Pepperoni

Fighting Cowboy is the man. Glad to finally see him on SS

Kc Wright

Spoiler free doesn't matter I have no clue what's going on with the story anyway the story is pretty much incoherent nonsense

I don’t know if it’s been pointed out, but dragons respawn at their location if you take them too far away, so you can’t take advantage of the AI, or so they don’t go to an area in the map they shouldn’t be in. It’s not a bug. Also the shield lasers, Insta kill death builds, and a lot of the things holding back pvp included the consoles and have been patched as of 1.03. It’s interesting how inconsistent peoples technical experiences have been.

I loved Elden ring. I Platinum it two times on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. However I will not buy the next game. This fan base the fan base up from soft. They're too toxic I don't support them I don't support who they are and what they represent. And I will never buy another one of their games. I'll release date because of that and just the buggy nature of their games in general. Also don't believe this game is a 9 out of 10 it's only a 7 out of 10. And you can't convince me otherwise. The story is incoherent. There is actually no story I don't believe this is actually how you tell story. And I don't care if you say it's how they tell stories in Japan. I think that's a lie and I think that's just lazy people being trolls on the internet. I don't like how people on the internet attack individuals who say that the story is bad and that the game looks like crap. I actually ended up liking the PlayStation 4 version of the game because it doesn't have grass flickering in and out. And there's less popping. It runs smoother. My first playthrough was on PlayStation 5 and I wasn't impressed my feelings is this game should have come out 5 years ago. And I would have been more impressed. I'm tired of people saying that's a beautiful looking game. The art direction is cool but it's not a beautiful game you need to go get your head checked. It's nice to hear that people actually have some decent criticisms of it I got tired of hearing the brown nosing individuals on the internet defending the game and apologizing for it. But that just proves how toxic the fromsoftware fanbase is and honestly I will not buy another game from them again unless it's on sale for like $20.

UMBASA I'm bricked up right now, Fighting Cowboy in the house!

deleted "whats elder circles?" Really

Fromsoft spoilers never bother me really, I don’t really fully even understand the story until Vaatividya tells me, and even if I know what the boss is, I never really understand it until I fight it myself

I like the way FromSoft tells their stories. I've heard it described as archeological storytelling. One piece of pottery won't tell you much but eventually if you find enough of the pieces they start to fit together to tell part of the story. The gaps are left for you to interpret. Video games are the only medium capable of that style of storytelling.

I platinumed the game today at 85 hours and I think the most impressive thing about it is the amount of worthwhile content. This may be the most content rich open world game I've ever played. It feels like Dark Souls 4, 5 and 6 all shoved into 1 game and the "side" areas that aren't required to beat the main quest feel just as handcrafted and in depth as the main areas and have some of the best and most challenging bosses. It feels like the side areas alone are just as big as an entire Souls game. The game has some issues but overall it was worth the hype which is so rare nowadays and will go down as an influential classic. Also when it comes to the technical aspects on PS5 the frame rate wasn't perfect but I got used to it quick and I didn't experience any bugs but the pop in was the most distracting thing imo.

Did you guys do the pot boi Alexander quest? I was so sad at the end of that he's probably my favorite souls character since onion boi. Also seeing patches again gave me so much joy

Nicholas Perfect

Good. Just in time. Just got my platinum last night!

James Buck

Holy crap cowboy!!! So good to have him here. His guides and walkthroughs have been invaluable to me. He is the only reason that I got into these games in the first place. They are now by far my most favourite games.

Victor Elmo

Great episode guys! It would be great for me if we have an episode focused on the lore. Maybe bringing cowboy back or any other guest. TY as always!

Joe Carpenter

Just to let you know guys, Blaidd is Welsh for wolf. In Welsh ‘dd’ is pronounced the same as ‘th’. The majority of the characters in the game speak with a Welsh accent, nice to see my country represented. Fun fact, in The Witcher books Geralt is referred to as Gwyn Blaidd (white wolf). A lot of fantasy seems to derive names of characters from Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I really appreciate Dustin saying “the beginning of this episode will be spoiler free.” I went into this ready to be spoiled just because I am eager to listen. Now, I can lend my ears, and make the choice to leave early. ❤️ Ps. I’m not fk’in leaving!

Playing on PC with a 1080ti. Using flawless widescreen for ultrawide and have had zero stutter. Runs at 45-60 fps smoothly. Only issue was it crashed once during the first dragon fight. I do play in offline mode, maybe that helps idk. Guess I’m just lucky.

Garry

I love how you say you have no issues but have to play on the last generation to get a stable frame rate Dustin lol. Just a wee bit of constructive criticism for a spoiler cast you really nevertheless talked about the overall story just some quests .

NinjaDC

Colin, From Software isn't an independent company. They were already bought up by Kadokawa years ago. Kadokawa just let's them work with other publishers. Worth noting, Sony formed a strategic stock partnership with Kadokawa which specifically noted video game properties amongst media partnerships.

Big titty drinker

I’m really enjoying this game it’s great. But I feel like the boss design is pretty poor from a gameplay standpoint. The best thing is the world building but overall even though I like it it’s just dark souls 3.5 in an open world with a lot of the same flaws and short comings .

Big Boss Games

I'm 80 hours in. Very far in the game. I'm looking forward listening to this Spoilercast somewhere in the coming weeks! Also curious to the forbidden West Spoilercast! Keep up the greatness!

Greg Dawson

CB should become a permanent member of LSM. Possibly the third host on Duke. He definitely knows & loves games.

Caleb Smydra

PS4 pro quality is acceptable, although the 30 fps hurts after playing Dark Souls remastered in 60 fps. I’ll be happy when I get my ps5 Cowboy’s guides are a must when playing any fromsoft game. I think elden ring is better than all of dark souls and demon souls, but sekiro and bloodborne offer a more unique/tighter experience IMO. But Elden Ring is definitely my game of the year at this point, even over horizon.

Mikey

Awesome episode guys . Really loved cowboys input but wish y’all had talked a little bit more about PVP

Isaias

I think you guys gotta work on your spoiler mode, it really was just general talk with hint of end game discussions, didnt talk about ending cutscenes and bosses no real spoilers were made.

Chris

I'm on journey 4 LVL 320 and I'm still finding new stuff, this game is a masterpiece and a game of an era not just a game of the year contender. Go out and discover tarnished!!!
