Sucker Punched | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 210

It's always fun to receive a letter, unless that letter happens to be very sad. Sony-owned developer Sucker Punch penned one such melancholy note to its audience in recent days, and it relayed sorrowful news indeed: The team isn't working on Infamous or Sly Cooper games now, they won't be in the foreseeable future, and -- perhaps most surprising -- no other studio is, either. Is the abandonment of Sucker Punch's history... well... a sucker punch of its own? We discuss. Plus: God of War: Ragnarok finally gets a release date, Forspoken is delayed into 2023, Rockstar abandons plans for a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster, and more news. Then: Listener inquiries! What are our expectations for Dragon Quest XII? Is there a future for digital game rentals? Will we ever 'retire' from playing games? Why does Colin hate phone calls so damn much? The Last Guardian IS better than Shadow Of The Collossus and I'm tired of pretending that it's not

Josh Kisskalt

Really bums me out IP have to be so tied to developers. Sly Cooper could be an awesome Asobi game, and inFamous is such a cool universe. I'd love to see explored with the dualsense and a bigger open world.

I also hate phone calls

Walker Simmons

Saying Sly Cooper is derivative of Ratchet and Clank triggered me lol. Sly 2 and 3 have small open worlds and are stealth heist games with platforming not action shooters like Ratchet. If we can have multiple 3rd person gritty sad dad games which I love then we can have another cartoony mascot . Seeing Sly Cooper with the fidelity of the new Ratchet games would be awesome but I'd also be happy if they just brought Sly 1-4 to PS5

You hit the nail on the head with the fake-caring phone calls where people pretend to see how you’re doing. None of your goddamn business. 🙂

Heather Edwards

Doing the podcast with the coof is sincere dedication. Hope you feel better soon Chris.

The Last Guardian is incredible, especially for people who’ve loved pets in their lives. The only game to ever get me to cry.

Great show as always, I am happy now they way they are doing this with ragnarök. So you announce date this week, next week pre orders THEN later at some point have a state of play. Last year so many wanted to play horizon after that state of play but then the marketing just went away until late 2021

Glad yall got a kick out of People of Niche Hobies like I did. Making Chris Ray Gun laugh goes down as my nerdiest achievement.

I was going to comment about game rentals but I have to put that aside to say RIP Tony Sirico aka Paulie Walnuts. Col, you gotta do an honorary OHHHHHHHHHH on the next podcast you do. ❤️

I mean one is literally derivative of the other, they serve the same niche. It would be stupid of Sony to activate another if they are already floating Ratchet, plus Astro and Sackboy.

LastStandMedia

It's not even about it being anyone's business, it's literally about me having no updates to provide. =)

Hope Slitter Chris is over the worse of his illness and not 30fps next week.

superbadisfunny .

Isn't the new "rental" basically the return system on Steam? (Technically) I believe its 2 hour refund. People abuse it but it doesn't seem to hurt valve or other publishers.

Joe Piervincenti

my mind is blown that neither Colin, Chris, or Dustin knew that digital game rentals WERE a thing for certain games during the early days of PlayStation Now :)
