Hot on the heels of our 87th episode for Defining Duke, the gaming industry set ablaze as 343 announced another setback to Halo Infinite. Many are out for blood and saying that the studio isn't cut out for the task of handling what is currently Xbox's flagship IP any longer. Joining the Dukes is our very own Chris Ray Gun along with Ains of Seasoned Gaming to get into the meat and potatoes of what the hell is happening with this studio. For over a generation and then some, the team has consistently launched Halo games with caveats leading to endless discussions on the "potential" of what 343 can do. Well, four major releases later (not accounting for collaborations such as Halo Wars 2) and people are out of patience. Is it time for structural change? We go from top to bottom to decipher whether or not that's the correct answer.

343 managed to capture alot of emotion really well in their stories apart from Halo 5....what was that? Halo 4 that ending....was just heart stopping. 343 were not prepared for a live service.

Dukes episodes are taking quite long to show up on the rss feed. This one is on YouTube already but not showing on my pocket cast

I’ve been waiting for this heat to drop

Morgan

Our patience with 343 has been exemplary. They had their shot, they blew it, time for a new studio to take the reigns.

I haven’t listened yet but this is exactly the type of episode I wanted to see

Big Ru

2 hrs of heated discourse, gonna need a nice bourbon on the rocks for this one 😉

I think 343 is what we got and who we will have indefinitely. Cog definitely has the idea with 343 being restructured as we speak with Joe Staten doing it. Besides, I don’t think anyone wants to be the lead Halo studio. You already have a weaponized community that has a lot of practice with the Bungie/343 dev team. I don’t think iD/MachineGames/Raven would want that, maybe spin offs but not main titles with the headaches that come with it.

If I crap the bed nonstop like this at work, my a$$ would be fired a long time ago. I do not understand why modern devs think they can just whine about how hard developing a modern game is and expect a pass. No more Laissez-faire approach, we need to clean house right now!

With the 10 year plan Microsoft was trying to follow Destiny. It's not working out so far.

After listening to Ains talking about the scope of Infinite, I have no idea why Microsoft didn't give 343 the resources to actually build the game. They should have scalped top shooter devs from any and every studio and give 343 a Fortnite budget. Like, it's going to take a billion dollars to build and run Infinite for 10 years. I also agree with Chris, the best way to get Infinite to the forefront of masses is to unreleased the game and bring it back 10 months to a year later.

I say give Halo to another developer make it something other than an FPS and keep 343 on Infinite support. Too much time, experience and money has been put into 343 to get Halo feeling like Halo just to throw it all way. Expand your horizons with the IP, if that brings success carry on with that new direction.

According to google 343 has 450 employees. Respawn has 315 employees. Respawn puts out a new Apex Legends season pass every 3 months with new legends, weapons, maps. Respawn also makes multiple games. The math just doesn't add up. 343 had like 6 years to get this done. I loved Infinite but I really cant imagine anything bringing me back at this point.

Fired up Chris is best Chris.

I want COD ODST

Tyee

I want rainbow six siege ODST with a choice of where you land on the mission in your drop pod and you have tactically take out covenant/banish (depending what era they choose to take place) groups with the brutes and elites feeling very powerful and more faster then you so you have to take the game slow rather then fast.

Tyee

Fantastic episode guys everyone was great. I personally agree more with Ains on this topic.

Henry Velasco

Banger episode fellas, great conversations all around.

Jack

Very interesting discussion!

Brian

Great episode

David Hotright

Chris with the Dad/Clown analogy just killed me 🤣

Sam Lee

I found this conversation very entertaining despite not playing Halo. You guys passion for this IP come across and for Chris's sanity I hope it goes well.
