You probably already know that I (Colin) employ a certain analogy when it comes to PlayStation's current situation: A boiling pot with a lid securely on top. You know something is in there -- the metal is hot to the touch, it's rattling, and maybe you've even caught an aromatic tease or two -- but you still don't know what's within. Well, today's State of Play let some of the steam out of that pot. But enough of the vague illustrations. For your listening and viewing pleasure, Dustin and I got together to talk off-the-cuff about the 12 featured products from State of Play -- 10 games and two extras -- including a couple of titles from second party, some love for PSVR2, promising fare from the east, and of course Sony's fall tentpole in God of War: Ragnarok. Gather 'round, friends. We finally have some news to discuss, and we're quite eager to do so.

Oh boy, let's do this. I just had my wisdom teeth removed, this is truly a blessing in the wake of the procedure. Praise be the LSM boys. <3

Sindri

I thought that Syn Duality or whatever it was called looked rad. Dumb name, but the gameplay and Mech design looked trill

KendrickLuck

❤️ the hustle from you guys, always 🙏 enjoy your evenings gents

Peter Medema

That God of War trailer went so hard.

Yiorgos

After today's Nintendo Direct, I completely forgot about the State of Play. We have a date on the new Zelda game, all I care about now and there's not much in terms of excitement from Sony atm

Jordan Fugate

I know we still have seen very little gameplay for God of War, but that trailer has has me hyped. Can’t wait for November.

Morgan

Not even death is bad ass enough for Kratos. God of War 2 is gonna be SICK

Brian

Love you guys

Ryan Zimm

Stellar Blade looks like something I'd love. Wasn't that originally shown at an Xbox event?

Alex Bolton

Stellar Blade looks impeccable, beautiful hack and slash gameplay. I for one am most excited for that. Story looks wonderfully over the top and dramatic as well, which I am a sucker for. Pleased!

Tyee

The state of play was awesome my time didn’t feel wasted. I know you both don’t know about demeo but the way Cog and the iron lords give demeo praise makes me think PlayStation got a good game on their hands and tekken 8, god of war and all the other games look good except that game that has a cortana rip off in it.

Samuel Ashley

I totally agree. Pacific Drive looks awesome! As a fan of arcade racers since I was a kid, any new take on the genre is very much welcome.

Brandon Soto

It was fine. Like Dustin, I’d give it a C. Really hope we’re getting Spider-Man news for the next one.

Jacob R.

Just started playing Slay the Spire an hour before listening to this podcast! Very impressed, and glad Colin’s enjoying it too :)

Jake Z

You guys really didn't do justice to how good that God of War trailer was

Hidari Shotaro

I completely lost my shit at the Like A Dragon announcement. Ishin has been highly praised as one of the best RGG games so this is now at my top most anticipated.

Integra76

State of Play was just ok to me. Excited for Stellar Blade. Like a Dragon: Ishin and Rise of the Ronin look interesting. Didn't care for Pacific Drive, Synduality and the VR games.

Viktor

For better or worse, I am extremely hyped for God of War after that trailer. Will go down as one of the best trailers ever for me.

TL

I was not hyped and this not disappointed, but this did next to nothing for me (the State of Play, listening to this right now). Stellar Blade and Hogwarts look good, nothing new of interest for me.

Ryan Greenwood

I’m with Dustin on this one C. God of War is probably the only game I will play but won’t be until some time next year. I’m definitely getting that God of War controller though my launch dual sense is trash and needs to be replaced.

Mackenzie

Never been big into God of War (cuz I suck at it) but that trailer was pure hype

Rio_Yeti_

I just typed up an inquiry in regards to Ragnarok so I could submit to the thread for this week but looks like you already covered the State of Play. Damn you guys are good! Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Tim S.

I think Dustin is onto something with the big blowout next year… being god of war is the last presumably big first party for ps4. I could see next year starting saying everything you see during this presentation will be on ps5 only and going forward.

TL

I finished it here at work, and while I do agree that Pacific Drive was appealing in some ways, I didn’t know enough about it from the event to know what it was going to be. Hearing you talk about it after doing more research on the information they provided does give it a bit more depth now. I’ll keep an eye out for more gameplay in the future.

Alex

My favorite announcement that came out of yesterday wasn't even Playstation state of play related. It was the reveal of Octopath 2 which will come out early next year for switch/ps/pc. Really looking forward to going back into that world.

Justin Soprano

Did you guys ever talk about Death's Door? I swear I remembered you guys did but cant find it.

superbadisfunny .

Tekken 8 trailer alone gives this state of play a b+. Everything else just puts the lotion on the skin.

Gareth Handa

Some nice surprises in there and was different from what I expected. I guess we’ll a PS Studios Showcase at some point. I’m just dying to see what they’ve been up to, I like to get hyped up.

Big Boss Games

For a state of play, this really was awesome!

Sam Lee

Interesting, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of Ronin, both developed by Team Ninja(with Koei Tecmo involved) but only one of those games is console exclusive. Is Xbox really shifting away from console exclusivity(I'm sure they had to money to make it so) to focus on day one GamePass or could Koei Tecmo have only agreed to day one GamePass if the game was multiplatform?

NeO JD

I’m not a fan of the combat in the regular Yakuza series so I’m not sure about Ishin but it looks cool. Col, I think you’d dig Like A Dragon (the rpg), it reminds me a lot of South Park: The Stick of Truth by how ridiculous it is. I don’t know anything about Yakuza but so far playing LAD seems like a good starting point as well.

Napoleon in Rags

Pacific Drive is the only one that stood out to me (apart from GoW). Excited to see what this new team can bring!

Greg Dawson

Colin loving the exclusive PS content for Hogwarts and a few mins later lamenting Square Enix and Nintendo exclusives is the height of irony 😂

Greg Dawson

Apologies Colin, it was Dustin! "Sometimes these exclusive quests end up being nothing, let's hope this one is more substantial". Why?

easelgames

? I think you missed the sarcasm there. He's poking fun at how pointless the exclusive quests are and basically asking that question while rolling his eyes. He's not actually hoping it's better, just saying that it's always pointless and this is yet another case of "oh well I guess we'll see"
