This past weekend, something unreal happened: A nefarious digital actor scraped and released a ton of material -- stolen directly from developer Rockstar -- showing an in-development Grand Theft Auto VI. Obviously, this is a very big deal. Indeed, this is one of the largest breaches a games company has ever experienced in the history of our industry, and it's one that has wide-ranging consequences for a host of different parties. In this impromptu episode of +, we sat down to discuss what happened, comb through many of your inquiries, and figure out where Rockstar and Take Two go from here. One thing's for certain, though: You definitely don't want to be that hacker right now.

“And here… we… go.”

With all the misinformation that’s online these days, it’s important to set the record straight from time to time. Make no mistake, she got dat ass.

Aaron B Vick

"Technical difficulties"... Yeah, that's exactly what I'd say if I were asked to come in hours earlier than regularly. Lol. Keep the man down Chris!!!

NotJack

Shouldn’t be using a press release as justification that the leak “wasn’t that bad”; that comes off as extraordinarily gullible and out of character for you. A public company is never going to say “wow this leak is going to hurt our release date and delay future revenue”.

lazer_josh

Yeah dude ocarina of time being 32mb is just wild. Straight up.

Steve Forgione

Shocked that the leaked game wasn’t fully finished and playable, lazy and greedy Rockstar is at it again.

From a sheer volume of content leaked perspective, I guess I see why people are calling this the biggest leak in gaming history. However, I agree with Colin when he said in this episode that the Last of Us 2 leak was far more damaging. That Last of Us 2 leak did permanent lasting damage to that game's legacy and marketing. In contrast, as a whole it looks like most of the gaming community is coming out with mostly positive feelings towards GTA VI with this leak.

I was hoping Dagen would have been dragged into this one. Not that it makes sense but just because that's what I'm used to on Mondays

Jesse spivey

Great episode but where's knockback!

Judah Bailey

I saw some people on Twitter getting hit by Take-Two just for discussing it. Hope you boys stay safe!

Josh Lucas

I’m surprised Dustin didn’t see all the tweets and comments saying the game looks like trash and they aren’t interested in GTA VI anymore. I saw dozens with thousands of likes. Overall it certainly doesn’t matter cause like you said once a real trailer drops and looks great they will forget how it looked in leaked footage.

Brandon Soto

Day 1 buy, regardless. It’ll be $80 when it releases too, my prediction.

lazer_josh

shoutout to the big booty latinas 💯💯💯

I thought some people were overdramatic, people were offering condolences like the entire staff got laid off. If I was Rockstar I’d find a way to work this leak into the reveal, they are kings when it comes to satire.

Colin, thank you for calling out the victim blaming. My apartment got burgled way back in the day, had all forms of ID stolen, checks, money, PS4, all game, etc. I accidentally forgot to lock my apartment one day when I left to work. Both the police woman and building manager's first words were like, "well you should have locked your door." Firstly, no shit. Secondly, NO the criminal shouldn't have robbed me. Such a weird mentality we have toward theft. Lol, sorry for the rant. Your statements just hit home.

I don't think it's too unreasonable for people to expect something that looks like the last of us but open world. The last of us is on last gen hardware and we expect this to be current gen/PC only. Think of any linear PS3 game and Max Payne 3, Last of Us 1, etc I'd say Red Dead looks better than any of them. That being said, the game looks good so far.

Nathan Densley

Thanks for not spoiling anything on ME3 in your video review. I remember watching that one.

NeO JD

Sacred Symbols acknowledging the booty. What a glorious day. 😄 Side note: damn Col, it must suck knowing the plot of a new BioShock before playing it.

LastStandMedia

Materially, it's a huge leak. But in terms of spoilers, yeah... not too bad. It's exactly what we thought it was.

LastStandMedia

Red Dead is impressive, but the 'production per square inch' on TLoU2 is far higher, and it wouldn't be doable in an open world.

Gareth Handa

Great episode, thanks for getting it up so quick. If it really is 2019 work, perhaps Slack was used in Rockstar as a temp solution as the pandemic hit before moving to something more bespoke.

RYAN EICHLER

Everyone loves a fat ass. Thanks for the discussion guys, I enjoyed it!

Tick Dickler

Its 2 year old footage of a game with another 3 years in the oven, and it already looks better than saints row lmao

Josh Gamez

I really appreciate what you said about wanting to have an adversarial relationship with developers/PR types. During my time as a full time sports reporter I'd always take pride in upsetting coaches/SIDs lol

Sam Torstenbo

You guys are right, representation in media is not only positive for minorities, but it widens potential audience and is more artistically interesting. Give us more thicc latinas
