Force Feed | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 233

Word of a third core The Last of Us game emanates from a reliable film industry-based source. If true, The Last of Us: Part III is one of at least two games in-development at Naughty Dog, news that is being met with equal parts excitement and disappointment. With other happenings pointing towards a God of War TV show at Amazon, and with so much of Sony's strategy seemingly relying on PlayStation's existing IP, it makes sense to wonder something very simple: Where are the new could-be franchises? When it comes to AAA fare, we've gotten one from the first and second party in PlayStation 5's entire lifecycle to date in the form of Returnal. Should we be concerned? Or should we put our faith into a brand that -- let's be honest -- has largely treated us very well over the last decade-plus, particularly when it comes to what matters most. Other news this week includes official word of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters' imminent PS4 release, the announcement of Ys X: Nordics, the exit of one of Media Molecule's co-founders from the studio after 16 years, and much more. Listener inquiries wrap things up as always, touching on topics like noisy controllers, the proper way to play Death Stranding, the commercial triumph of Sonic Frontiers, and a compelling suggestion that Chris may in fact be a time traveller with an uncanny predictive flair. I know the guys are almost certainly trolling near the end but in case they're not - the rest of the world doesn't give a fuck about Thanksgiving, so Christmas is when many of us are forced to eat that dry bird with our loved ones. I give huge credit to those who have convinced their families to have another dish, but Christmas turkey is very much a tradition

Have none of you seen Stargate SG1? Chris Judge would be perfect has Kratos. Show him putting the ashes on we know why he's more pale and away we go. 🤣

Great show guys and happy Holidays / New Year to the whole crew. Me and my squad, we will be be publishing our last episode tomorrow, and similarly take a break until half January. Can't wait for the break 🥳

Be if the knock back community knew about this during voting season... 🤣🤣

Colin, can I ask, what makes you so sure that CoD would stay on PlayStation, even with the deal going through? 🤔 If the answer is related to this move being ridiculously senseless from a financial perspective, I would only like to remind you: we are dealing with a company that for gears takes financial loses with a non profitable subscription model, relocating funds from other departments, and one that is spending 70 billion dollars on an aquisition. I don't think they are about loosing money in a short run.

Have been playing Persona 4 Golden on Vita throughout this year, its the first JRPG I've ever played and its been an absolute treat. Would recommend 100000000%.

eff the movie, eff the renaissance, sonic frontiers is just a really good game. great game even. it's a great open world action adventure game that should not be slept on. i haven't gotten into a sonic game since i got sonic adventure 2 in 2001, so i'm not a sonic fanboy by any means. this is just abreast game. period. not a great sonic game, but a great game. enough with the slander and eye rolls. stand. down.

I feel the same way, the last Sonic game I bought was Generations but I played it a lot as a kid on the GameCube. Frontiers is exactly what I expected it to be and I am completely happy with and am impressed by the results. It's just exhilarating and fun, it's so easy to run around, fight an enemy, run into a spring and grind and jump around for an item and then get spit right back out onto the world. Easily a great game.

superbadisfunny .

I think with the usual sequel talk about how you guys advocating for studios to usually do something new is I think the disconnect with the average consumer who might only play 10 games a year. So consumers aren't really getting tired of sequels as y'all may, with playing as many games as you do so wanting something new often. I just never heard you guys bring up this point. (I'm in guy who likes dynasty warriors 2- 8) lol

Abandoning PlayStation would abandon Call of Duty's biggest install base and market, eschew Sony's valuable marketing dollars which offsets their own budgets, and likely make it so that the CoD brand entered the red. These are very, very expensive games with massive headcounts. Thousands of people working on annualized projects that cost hundreds of millions of dollars. There's virtually no pipeline like it anywhere in entertainment, save maybe Disney's op, and you don't fuck with the calculus lightly. I firmly believe that -- whether Sony made a stink or not -- CoD (and other big Activision-Blizzard properties) would always be on PlayStation.

P4G is fucking awesome guys and the music is equally so! You all should play it when it comes out. Colin, get some much needed rest and enjoy your holidays guys. Thankyou for making awesome content and making me laugh throughout the year. You guys are the best!

I'm just here for the muse Stockholm syndrome reference. Also the new album will of the people is surprisingly good!

There's some really good videos showing how other cultures are not only not offended but rather excited seeing white people wear their native garb. There's a video of a Japanese guy asking people on the street in Tokyo about the casting of Ghost in the Shell. Almost everybody had a very positive reaction to her look. None of them even noticed her race. This obsession with race in America is horribly divisive when it doesn't need to be.

Colin that King's Speech line was hilarious
