Content

It's time for another call-in episode of Sacred Symbols+, conducted (as always) via the Last Stand Discord. We went to six individual callers today, all with their own topic, which we of course didn't know beforehand. One person wanted to discuss the seeming fall of turn-based gaming, while another was curious if Jak & Daxter will ever have a future. One listener inquired about Last Stand's future, while another was inquisitive about content creation generally. Plus: Is Factions going to be free-to-play? Will PlayStation 6 finally eschew a disc drive? Naturally, we've much to discuss.

I need that second part of ranking the PS studios like NOW 🖤

As a Minnesotan... "Iowa is Beautiful" is one of the most offensive things I have ever heard lol.

F the detractors. Sales Saga & Sacred League rule

I had to pay the full god damn price last week for It takes two; almost 2 years after it released. This sucks ass and why I can’t stand the “ no more physical games” thing. But that’s the beauty of having options. Don’t take away options and everyone is happy imo. Also- books, BLUrays, etc. all go on sale after time passes. Games have to as well no?

Some of my favorite pods! Keep these up!

Colin & Dustin, I loved the conversation you guys had about game prices following my call-in. It's certainly interesting! I'm a big fan of the "Stinky Switch," and actually have purchased many games at $60 years after launch. I think Nintendo gets away with it because their whole first-party lineup retains MSRP. I'd be curious to see what would happen if Sony suddenly decided to hold all of its titles at $70 MSRP for extended periods.

I buy both physical & digital I don't care either way. For example this month I purchased the last of us part 1 for $50 +tax (digital) then I run to the store to buy pokemon (physical) $60 +tax. I am also guilty of buying fortnite skins for my son so 😅

Just wanted to amplify the first callers comments about the Show. Completely agree with him. LSM has been a joy at work, driving, doing dishes, or in the shower. Thank you guys 💪

Nicholas Swanson

The fact that Colin would call into AM radio political shows as a child is just so funny to me

Matt Wiles

Haha, Colin, you crack me up. That first caller. I’ll see you in the U.K. when you get over here. I’ll be solo. None of my friends are remotely interested in this stuff (none of them are nerds). Matt.

It's doubly impressive that Nintendo sells so many copies of their games considering how well they retain their value. Money printer.

I thought Dustin was just bulldozing over Colin at 55:35 for a second 😂😂😂😂

Trapgunner

My condolences to the Austin who lost his game collection about ten years ago. I feel for him since the same thing happened to me 12 years ago.

Tyler

Was there some crazy audio glitch where Dustin started talking to a caller over Colin?

Michael (ObjoGaming)

Hate to be "that guy" but 505Games is an Italian company, not American. Also Sacred Sales Saga and Sacred League are great

Jack Sibert

Gotta disagree with Colin on the physical games topic. I'm now older and in my older 30s and make a decent living, and for the most part, I can purchase new games at my leisure. And I now also almost exclusively buy games digitally. But when I was younger and had less money to go around- I absolutely would be at Gamestop trading in games I didn't want anymore for newer and older games I hadn't played yet. Without that extra discount I wouldn't have been able to play nearly as many games as I have. Some of my favorite games are games I obtained through trade-in credit. I don't think it's right to metaphorically knock down the ladder behind me. Resale and barter of property and goods is a very healthy market dynamic that absolutely should be used when it offers advantage. Video games may be the only multimedia product that is actively traded for monetary value- but that's because they are inherently more valuable in the first place. Long live Ebay!

But also just want to say- it's always a joy to hear Colin engage with the audience! Merry Christmas to all the LSM family

I laughed so hard when I heard it. The timing made it so funny to me. It was near the end of Colin’s rant about pricing of games in the industry. There seemed to be some slight disagreement between Colin and Dustin on the topic so it sounded like Dustin got tired of hearing Colin’s rant and just decided “fuck this I’m going to the next caller” lol. Had to rewind and listen to it again to confirm it was an audio mistake.

That was my thought! I was like “holy shit, they’re gonna fight!”

Mark Khoroshansky

The second caller, you should maybe use dalle 2 to generate thumbnails, I know people are doing that. Good luck!

Re: turn-based games. I'm sure you've heard this already a bunch of times but look into Chained Echoes. It's been years since I've played a turn-based rpg but this one has seriously grabbed me!

I totally understanding trading your games in. It's just that -- very obviously -- this is a small minority of people.
