Science Is The Captain | Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 236

It's easy enough to forget (especially these days) that Sony is, first and foremost, an electronics company. So perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that the company showed up to CES not only to show off its upcoming PlayStation VR2, but also something brand new: A fresh controller codenamed Project Leonardo, one designed with maximum accessibility in mind. By leveraging the power of tech, video games can reach even more people if they simply cater to them, and when it comes to the disabled, Microsoft proved nearly five years ago that their so-called adaptive controller represented something real. It's finally time for Sony to follow suit. Plus: PlayStation 5 surpasses 30 million units sold, The Last of Us: Factions gets teased yet again, Hitman turns into the World of Assassination, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is gaming culture broken? How important was Shuhei Yoshida to PlayStation's first party output? When can we expect to (at last!) play Six Days in Fallujah? Is hand sanitizer essential, or a prophet of dryness? Tickets to An Evening with Last Stand in Texas are ON SALE NOW: https://my.thehobbycenter.org/5706/5708 Follow the hosts on Twitter! Social media as a whole has gotten worse over the years. People are so mentally obsessed with it, it’s ridiculous.

You guys are correct about the venue, I live here just south of Houston and just recently saw Final Fantasy Distant Worlds there and the balcony is *chef's kiss*!

Doug, just Doug

Couldn't agree more re: social media. I haven't logged into Facebook in years and recently deleted my Twitter account entirely. Like Colin, I also used it as my primary news feed (very rarely posting), but the toxicity and constant negativity made it, I eventually realized, a complete waste of time. So I voted with my feet. In the early going, when I felt the urge to pick up my phone to check Twitter, I instead picked up my Kindle and read a few pages of whatever book I'm reading. Far better use of time.

I don't like Long Furby. I really don't.

God the ancient apocalypse stuff reminds me so much of Daniel Jackson in Stargate.

100% objection to Cris's argument about resolution VS frame rate - always, ALWAYS resolution is top. The frame rate needs to be stable. I don't give a damn about 30 , 40, 50 or 60, but stable. Fluctuations to the fps a game is running is a giant problem, but I will always prefer gamedevs to show me more details, more dense environment, more trees, more grass, more weather conditions, more lights, more reflections, then to downgrade that for fps. Fuck that, with respect.

Oh, and please forget the original Final Fantasy VII from the PS1 and if you are looking into playing the remake, please just play the new one. There is nothing to gain to play it beforehand. It is a fun gimmick to look at if you want after liking the remake. And if someone's asks you, and you recommend playing the PS1 first - shame on you. Also, playing the PS1 will ruin the next stages of the VII new form. Don't be silly. Forget about the 1997 game already.

Confirmed; I have been trying to decide if I should write in about the watch/wutch pronunciation. I didn't know how to pose it without being a cock to Dustin but I have noticed it for months now. Although Colin uses soft "th" sounds for everything from "them" to "thighs". As a Nebraska without an accent of any kind, these subtleties stand out but it is the essence of beauty in our language! Kudos.

I am with you video games were around when I was a kid but we still played with toys and outside but I noticed a change when smartphones became mainstream so it's probably a combination of kids having access to smartphones and video games advancing

Blake Wall

Also you guys should definitely try Axiom Verge 2 but keep in mind it's more different then you would expect the weapons are more unique then just guns in the sequel

Blake Wall

Also I looked up long Furby expecting to hate it but I am sorry that shit is dope

since i listen to these for free feeds on youtube, im behind, but im wondering if the "the short message" could be a tie in for the silent hill 2: born from a wish expansion. it was basically a 90 minute episode that was debuted with the xbox release, then came to ps2 on the greatest hits version. it follows maria as the protagonist in some elderich mansion doing fetch quests for a guy behind a door who refuses to show himself, and you interact with the nearby apartment complex as well. so instead of remaking that, they may be doing a brand new short expansion for sh2 remake??

Keith Huntington

bonus reply: i let my controller die, almost habitually. when the controller shuts off, unless it's dark souls, the game always pauses. so that's my indication to fish out the 15' usb cable. but i let it ride until it shuts off. 100% of the time.

Colton McKinney

I work nights and typically play from 9 pm to 6 am on my days off and never have to charge my controller so idk what’s wrong with Chris’s controller for him to only get 5 hours on a full charge.

Colin, unless you pee like a wee girl, you're definitely touching your weiner and thus should wash your hands afterwards. Such a bizzare statement to say, that you don't touch your pee doesn't mean you aren't touching your dick, which probably isn't the cleanest thing in your trousers 😂 🤧

Surge!

I agree on the hand sanitizer stance and just basic normal hand washing procedures that don't go overboard. Of course it also goes without saying that a good and long flaccid jerk needs a hand wash afterwords. Anyway welcome back guys.

Matthew Remus

The Silent Hill prelude (girl trapped in an apartment) sounds like a VR game. Imminent release date could be for PSVR2

Former licensed Optician here. The puff of air checks the pressure in your eyes which is mainly used to check for glaucoma but can detect other issues as well. As far as the retnal scan instead of the dialation. That doctor was most likely charging your insurance for dialation but giving you the retnal scan as those are not covered by 95% of insurance companies and dialation is always free. You probably wouldn't even notice the charge since it's covered and I've never seen an insurance company actually check on a service that small.

Man oh man, every time Colin says how much he enjoyed Persona 4 I get frustrated that he hasn’t played Persona 5. I thought P4G was good when I played it on Vita but P5 is so much better. Holy smokes, get on it, Col.

MikeLee

Maybe I'm mistaken but I don't think I've heard one write-in ever mention that Crisis Core's store page on every platform describes it as such: "CRISIS CORE –FINAL FANTASY VII– REUNION is the HD remaster version of the smash hit prequel to FINAL FANTASY VII."
