The Fashion of Our Youth | KnockBack, Episode 252

For a good duration of the average childhood, you're dressed by your parents. You have very little choice or input, and certainly no financial means to make different decisions. But then, you start to care and exercise some agency: First a little bit, then a lot more. Before you know it, the way you present yourself to the world becomes a key component of your persona, something within your control. Today's episode of KnockBack is dedicated to both eras of childhood, the helplessness of school shopping with mom and the heady days of charting your own fashion course, with tons of stories, anecdotes, and choice gear from days past. The styles, the brands, and more. As always, we go deep. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:08:25 - Topic Starts

Listening now and i think I’m about a year older and was the same way in middle school. Was obsessed with hockey and had a ton of jerseys from other teams. Sadly I didn’t really keep to many over the years to pass down. Still have all my flyers. Who yes I know suck. Haha

Alright boys, I've gotta come in with the correction (lol). Disco is still around to this day, and new disco music is still played. It's underground like house and techno are, but it's still there. In fact, there's a genre called nu disco now, and there's entire venues that mostly have disco/soul music played by DJs. Also, I'm a DJ that mainly spins deep house and disco. The DJs that still spin it/produce it currently are just not in the spotlight. Also, apparently bell bottoms are making some sort of come back, but we will see if it'll make a big cultural splash on the kids of today like the 80's style has impacted them currently. Anyway, sorry, but I had to let ya'll know what's up on this one lol. Sorry about the sentence structure this morning, I'm fucking tired.

My brothers and I each randomly had one those Phoenix Coyotes Kachina jerseys, even though we were Leafs and Habs fans. I think we went to a sporting goods store and that was the only jersey they had so of course we got ‘em. Now they’re cool with the hipsters but I couldn’t imagine wearing another teams jersey now as an adult.
