Like a meteor from the sky -- or perhaps a capsule drop from orbit -- Sony second party partner Arrowhead randomly released new information about its upcoming co-op-based third-person shooter Helldivers II, including new gameplay footage. Arcadey, difficult, and sarcastic, Helldivers II aims to recognizably evolve 2015's PS4, PS3, and Vita original, and a 2023 release window has thankfully been reiterated. Let's discuss the promise of killing bugs and fellow humans (intentionally or otherwise) in the name of Super-Earth. We also go through recent rumors surrounding a purported The Last of Us: Part III and the upcoming Team Ninja PS5 exclusive Rise of the Ronin, chronicle ongoing troubles with PlayStation's nascent mobile initiative, and more, and we wrap things up with a salvo of listener inquiries. What are our feelings on 2D Soulsborne games? Do box office bombs in the movie space portend a rough future for our AAA industry? How could Sony best celebrate its various IP in a single product? Will Daffy Duck star in Kingdom Hearts IV?

I feel that too often now irrelevant bands (no offense to Yellow Card) are taking too much advantage of our nostalgia.

Stefan Kovacs

Lmao welllllllll. Read that in my best RDR2 voice

Jose Horrach

Colin is absolutely correct. Temple of Doom is the best Indiana Jones.

NotYurRealDad

"There are a lot of stores in this mall"

king_ryan_james

How do you all feel about the nomenclature of the phrase BBQ? I get mad when people say they’re “BBQing”. You’re grilling! BBQing isn’t a word and it’s not a verb! Idk it just bugs me.

king_ryan_james

I had an ADT Security company solicitor show me a YouTube video of how someone could use a bump key to break into my house. This was about two weeks after we moved in and he walked up from the side of my house. I promptly ordered Simplisafe.

drivebyjoe

We do appreciate you responding to our comments.. you never had to but you did.. thank you

Nik peltier

Have to comment mid episode, Kobe wore number 24, there was no other player they could have chosen for year 24.

ZombiesNJ

I totally agree with Colin - I have a no soliciting sign and they still ring my bell. Why? If you are bothering me to sign up or buy something it’s not something I’m interested in. I will seek out the products or services I’m interested in, not the other way around!

Cai

Based on that intro, I’d love a constellation topic on staying with family after finding your independence. Always wild to go back and try and reintegrate into all the little ways of life that used to be so normal.

I also came to comment this. Similar situation to last year when they put Jordan on the collectors edition since it was 2k23, except it’s not posthumous.

David D

Sonic's real name is Maurice Ogilvie, or at least it was in the Archie canon. That is all.

Samuel Ashley

Dang I’m not even 30 minutes into the episode and Colin is already dropping hot takes about temple of doom being the best Indiana jones. Lets try and slow down a bit with those proclamations. It all seriousness though, my wife had never seen an Indiana Jones movie, (she’s lacking in a lot of movies) so we have been watching them the last couple weeks. We are actually watching the last crusade tonight. While she has really liked the first two, I’m excited to show her what is clearly the best one.

TreyDogg

Holy Shit. Never even heard of the Last Faith. Looks absolutely incredible and comes out super soon!

Drew Lee

4+ hours. Love it.

TL

I agreed 100% and felt like you were just giving your opinion on the FTC conversation Colin, no fanboy talk. I commented as much last week. People overreact on different angles of the issue, but I felt like a lot of the pro-acquisition people were a bit over the top and exaggerated in their responses. If I get shit replies for that, it is what it is, just my take.

Christian

Indiana Jones real name is Henry Jones Jr. That’s why Sean Connery calls him Jr. At some points.

Josh Gamez

The story about someone trying to get into Colin's apartment reminded me of a time in collegw when a group of dudes walked into my apartment with racks of beer thinking it's where a house party was happening while my roommate was playing League of Legends and I was at the kitchen table smoking a bowl lol

Nathan R

“I’m an adult, I want to play my Zelda game” Colin 07/07/2023

Made me laugh. But I have similar feelings. Wife asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday and I could only think of playing games. So that’s what I did lol.

TriggerHappyTom

Did someone seriously ask why people don’t like solicitors? Because they show up at the worst times and are usually rude and scammy as hell. When I went door to door for the census a few years ago almost everybody was friendly to me when I actually straight up told them why I was there and didn’t try to sell them some shitty product.

Superhero Jagganath

Chris is going to wake up one night and find Colin standing over his bed saying "I never really sleep."

Jesse V

Chris comments in respect to his dislike of the movie theatre experience triggered me. It’s the most problematic thing I’ve heard on this podcast!

Matt Wiles

Not related to this episode: Colin you made me re-download Far Cry 6 after I’d ditched it 6 months ago. You’re right. It is fucking awesome. How I didn’t ‘see’ that on my first go, I dunno. It’s just clicked now and it’s brilliant.

Jay

You’ll understand fireworks and parades and dumb shit like that when you have kids. All that stuff, and a lot of stuff in general that seems dumb, is all for the kids.

Cormac

Sell it to me please, played 3/4/5 and enjoyed them but all very similar in gameplay I felt 😅

Mark M

In regards to using Torgal in Final Fantasy, I'd recommend using his attack as the final hit in a combo. So either square x 3 then up, or square-triangle x 3 then square-up. It's called a 'precision sic'. I also use him to launch enemies, which can be useful. The heal seems a bit weak. I think the more you use him, the more powerful he gets, plus I find it fun getting him involved. As for items, I just keep torgal as default and quickly go left -> item -> left again so I don't accidentally select a potion later on.

Dylan Michael

Pretty sure Chris was dying to make a golf club joke at the end…iykyk

Ryan
>>112454766

The shooting isn’t fun enough to invest that much time into it

Mark Horner

I laughed too hard at “Gawd dammit torgal”

Jim Miller

Solicitors come to my door unannounced and try to sell me a product. No shit you’re going to get abuse.

Your Boi Nicky V

Glad Colin is stepping back, I think he's above having to react to the lowest common denominator takes like he did last week with FF or with the PlayStation Showcase. Also means I can comment without feeling bad that he'll have to take the time to respond.

Matt Wiles
>>112454766

I completely disagree and I’m a bit of a snob with shooting and gameplay mechanics like this. The diversity of guns is unreal. I’ve never had so much fun with a nail gun stealthily taking out every enemy in a base.

Matt Wiles
>>112454766

See my comment below. There’s certain guns which add so much enjoyment and uniqueness. You can take out a base and destroy reinforcements in so many diverse ways. The scenery and graphics seem to get better as I progress too.

Jason Hjartarson

I just looked up RDR2’s budget after the discussion. Sometimes an insane budget produces my favorite game of all time

Timothy Martin

Pumpkinhead, I’m a SS super fan living in Valencia. Sorry we didn’t cross paths

Raymond keys

I’m sure someone addressed this but Kobe is on the cover of 2K24 again because his Jersey number is 24 last year they did Jordan because it was 2K23 Jordan’s number. I think 2K21 it wasn’t planned, because of the tragic passing.

Kickstand

Clarification: Torgal is a wolf, not a dog. Wolves are fucking massive. Also, I will be going back to FFXIV after I I finish XVI. I’m converted.

Josh Tarpley

They would have to nerf Abby in PlayStation Golf™️, too OP at launch

Bryon Edington

I enjoy ff16 a lot most of the time. I just prefer chunkier progression systems than what we get from the ability trees. Getting more points doesn’t usually make you a ton more powerful, or change the skills much… you just add more points and number goes up (definitely not completely true, but by and large.) I wouldn’t say it’s not a good final fantasy game at all, but I do want more rpg systems.

Douglas Morreale

Solicitors actively interrupt others from their day to day routine. By coming to my domicile and knocking on my door, solicitors piss off my dogs and disrupt me as well. Thanks to Colin for clearing that up for Stephen.

Greg McDonald

I've hated on the Dual Sense since day one when near enough everyone singled it out as the best thing about the PS5 and I feel now I'm finally being vindicated. It's trash

Marko Krnic

When Chris said he didn't know most of the artists who had stuff thrown at them this last week...am I to believe he hasn't heard of Drake and Harry Styles!? 😂

Daddy T

Agree mostly with Colin about him having to step back from all socials, but I gotta disagree about stepping back from the fan discord, this is largely where the fun and welcoming community he’s built resides and I feel like it’s important for him to at least keep his finger on the pulse there, and even just to interact with his fans on a more personal level, I don’t use it personally but I just think that might be a step too far back.

Joshua Jones

Chris never likes anything. He knit picks everything

Anthony Palerino

Worms slithered so Shell Shock Live could run

Klutch

Ff14 is one of my favorite games but I feel very confident that there is a near 0% chance Colin would like it. Would love to listen to the conversations though if he ever takes the plunge.

The Rose Experience
>>112633046

I actually think Colin would like it, but only once the game and it’s story moved into Heavensward. More gameplay options, far better writing, more expansive world etc. it’s an absolute masterpiece of MMO’s but at this point the task from the very beginning is seemingly insurmountable unless you dedicate everything to it

Malcolm G

I also thought it was weird that Kobe was once again going to be the cover athlete for 2k. All though, I suspect its an homage to his jersey number - 24.

Mark Michaels

Holy shit Colin. I tell people all the time when I was in Elementary/Middle school my dream was to have a blonde bowl cut. Everyone had one. Except I’m mixed Puerto Rican/Black so I would try that to get it and wind up with a mushroom that would poof the minute my hair dried. Lmao.

M

I have not been able to continue listening to the show since I heard the discussion on the Nickmercs / Activision debacle. How the topic was handled was inaccurate and deeply troubling to me. However, I can sympathize that with how many topics you are asked to speak on each week you are bound to make mistakes. This is why you regularly make corrections on the show (something I commend). But I was further disturbed when the only time paid to the topic when it was revisited was to speak against those that were disturbed by your characterization of the issue. I absolutely oppose bullying and abusive behavior, and those that choose to express themselves in these ways do a disservice to the seriousness of this issue. However, to leave the conversation at that is, at best, inconsiderate of the other side and, at worst, an indirect defense of exploitative and violent behavior toward children. The fact is this: the problem Nickmercs, and a lot of others (myself included), have spoken of is overwhelmingly the targeting of minors for things like puberty blockers, reconstructive sex change surgeries, public drag shows, public school books depicting graphic sexual acts, and in my home state, the ratification in law of the state holding the right to indefinitely separate a parent from their child if they do not "affirm their chosen gender identity". I understand that this was something that Nickmercs clarified online. What my intention is in writing this is that you will make a correction on the show. I understand the power dynamics at play, but if this show is as impartial and fair as you all claim, then this correction would only be right in light of the kind of ethos you work to maintain.

Marco Maluf

Dual sense hurts my hands as well, I don’t think we’re getting old, I think its bad design, DS4 never did this, I’ve played recently hours of Zelda with the switch pro controller and didn’t had any problems…
