Why is it that flying feels so bad lately? In this video, Sabrina confronts her hatred for flying, learns about the complicated deregulation that got us here, and dives deep on the reasons airlines are acting like they're broke. 1. do you read comments on patron other that the ones with questions for aftershow? 2. also you forgot to add show note to PatPod 85 time 21:48 and PatPod 88 you said that you will add photo of Taha screen time but you didn't can you add them? 3. How long after posting this post do you record the aftershow? 4. If Taha has 20 pages of question prompts to writing biography (PatPod 81) then did he wrote his own biography? I would like to see those questions?

So if the 3 of you were on a plane, who gets the window, who gets the aisle, and who's stuck in the middle?

Juan

Hey guys, great video as always. You mentioned it a bit at the end but how does other means of transportation like ✨trains✨ fit into this problem. I'd be down to take a longer but cheaper and more comfy travel on train than in an airplain

Callum

What about the environmental impact of flying? I would question the idea that enabling people to travel more is unequivocally good. How can we fix the problem while transitioning to more sustainable modes of travel? Or is travel at current (ultra-cheap) airline prices just fundamentally unsustainable?

One other thing that bothers me about airports is shopping. Besides prices, which are ridiculous, WHY do people shop at airports? It is clearly lucrative, because many shops are there. But where does one put the things they have purchased? At LaGuardia airport (New York City, USA), they have recently remodeled (much needed), and overall it works well. However, the worst part is after you get through security (which we know security is HORRIBLE and overwhelming), you HAVE to walk through duty free, which is just a barrage of noise, lights, people, smells, THINGS. I understand this has to do with consumerism, and not the airline industry. But it is still a part of airline travel that makes it uncomfortable. And how LaGuardia took from the Disney model of funneling guests through the gift shop after each ride...

pretty unrelated but how’s terry doing these past 2 years?

I have mixed emotions about this video. The main issue I have is its focus in US-based airlines and, to a lesser degree, airlines in Canada. Specific to one section, if credit cards was one of the main drivers, I can't find a credit card with the same level of benefits here in Canada. Maybe I should check again, as it has been awhile. At the same time, we should look at the breakdown of the ticket prices, as some of the costs are airport related and, depending on where you are, costs can ballon as a result of whether it is not for profit (Canadian airports), government-run (US airports) or private entities (Heathrow airport comes to mind). That brings to questions: 1. As mentioned, this video seems mainly US based. How much does it also apply to the rest of the world? 2. Did you enjoy the Vancouver get together? Did you enjoy the cherry blossoms? On that note, f*, marry, kill: London, Toronto and Vancouver?

What was your best travel experience so far?

West

Is there an amount that you'd be okay with increasing fares if it meant a better experience? Obviously there's the premium cabins but if there was say a 20% increase for all tickets where would you want that money to go (better seats, more leg room, delay/cancellation entitlements, free wifi, etc)?

Simon Law

There are some Aeroplan cards that are approximately as good as the ones available in the USA.

Simon Law

Did your research also turn up the fact that airlines in Canada and the US are turning into rewards programs for their branded credit cards?

Sean

Great catches, sorry about that! We've updated the PatPod 85 and 88 shownotes. Usually we record the aftershow within a week or so of posting the AMA, then post the episode a week after that. This particular aftershow will be a bit later! Not sure about Taha's biography but maybe it's something we can come back to!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve packed “just in case”? And what’s your most irrational airport superstition?
