What answer in progress video has been each of y'all's favorite to research/make and why?

Philippa Ancla

not a question but I literally thought before you were announcing your Patreon that you were going to announce Answer In Progress school to make us not hate learning anymore XDD

My current favourite is probably the trolley problem video. It was such a rollercoaster to produce but it brought all of my favourite things together - exploring outrageous hypotheticals with friends, learning directly from experts, and talking about serious subjects disguised as silly antics (maybe clickbait can be used for good). Anyway , I think it was the best video I've made thus far but I can't wait to one-up it in the future! - Sabrina

The whole way through this video I was like "oh shit, that's me" Like, I used to get so frustrated with myself for not being active enough in learning - I would get bored and just play FIFA - but now I think its because I was too stuck in learning the foundations of something that I became unstimulated I keep try to learn the piano, I wanna play cool melodies and harmonise with both hands, but I never get further than learning scales cause that's dry as fuuuudge Any tips?

Will Peters

I haven't figured it out either, but I have gotten much better recently. Johnny Harris has a great video called How to Force Yourself to Learn Stuff, worth a watch for sure. Also, repetition is key. Spend an hour or two learning something, like your scales on the piano. After that sit down and play scales for 5 minutes every day or most days. Seriously just 5 minutes. Do that for a couple weeks and go to the next step and rinse repeat.

Bite off more than you can chew. Unless you have a passion for the fundamentals (it's possible but pretty rare), you'll get bored and if there isn't a structure to hold you accountable to practice, you might give up. Instead, take on a project that you're really interested in but almost definitely ill-equipped for. While pursuing that project, you'll understand the importance of the fundamentals in a better context and you can work on them within a project that you might be more interested in completing (rather than mindless practice). - Sabrina

This was a fun episode! Hope vision comes through. Also just here to ensure that these three kids don't need to get a real job.

This ep made me patreon'd. Would be great if you could delve more or make a series/recurrent theme, like study techniques, habits, define successful 'learner', interview great learners with examples, tiers of learners/ing, effectiveness of those learning programs. Or not, it ok. Just a friendly suggestion.

David

One of the things I appreciate most about your videos is the way you add in the emotional impact at the end. I think that helps seal the deal.

David

ALSO, you guys should do a video on how to handle emotions. Your process and way of dealing with these things would make the end product phenomenal. If you need additional thoughts, feel free to reach out. THANK YOU!

I love that you touched on the pain of learning. I have been really feeling stuck at work, feeling overwhelmed at not knowing how to do what I’ve been asked to do (coding) and I realized watching your video that it’s scary to learn something when you feel behind. Thank you for such a cool, sincere and thought provoking channel, I’m happy to play a part in supporting you three!

thank u for your support!! i'm glad our videos help!! - taha

Blake Chambers

I'm still learning the Answer in Progress style, so tell me if I'm off base. Handling Emotions would be amazing! And I think "How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain" by Lisa Feldman Barrett in your kind of starting place.

Blake Chambers

Thank you! My brain is on fire! I've been watching Thomas Frank and Vsauce since I've left college—I wish I could synthesize my YouTube history to describe the sporadic and shifting maze of information I've explored (and don't know how to use). Thank you for letting me be a lab rat, and I hope I can easy the burden of jobless researchers as a patron.
