Wow! What a treat, this whole album is a masterpiece! Takes me back to my late teens - I was blown away when this was released. Thanks for reacting to this.

Thank you for sharing with us! This is absolutely something to be blown away by - perfect!! 🤩

I can remember how odd it felt to have the world suddenly "discover" Peter Gabriel with this album after he'd been such a personal musical force for me going back to the 1973 release of "Selling England by the Pound", his departure from Genesis through every eponymous solo album leading up to this, and countless live shows each more transcendent than the next. I was proud he broke through without selling out, more accessible without simplification. Once upon a time he felt like a shared secret and suddenly he was EVERYWHERE. On another note, "Don't Give Up" was a go to in difficult times, and always good for ensuring the ocular waterworks moistened the eyeballs...And it was great to hear Kate Bush get wider exposure at that time as well...Yes, Nick, that's a pan flute you were thinking of and Alexia was describing, and the synth and sampler settings became presets in the keyboard market which were often labeled "Sledgehammer"!

So Tonight! Wooo... it's going to be So! Can't wait...

"Milgram's 37" is inspired by the psych studies/experiments performed by Stanley Milgram in the early Sixties in which the subjects were instructed to administer electric shocks to an unseen fellow subject to see its effect on learning. In fact, no actual shocks were given, with the study instead researching obedience to authority. Despite hearing blood curdling screams coming from the next room, 37 of the 40 subjects continued to administer what they thought were shocks of increasing voltage beyond the point they thought they could be lethal because, in the words of the song, "We do what we're told...told to do". Gabriel dedicated the song to the 3 who refused to obey...

Thank you Gary. I did not know that!

As an old Génesis freak I can tell you my opinión on this album. It’s a masterpiece. SO is my favourite PG album (and I have all of them, as well as all the Génesis works) Mercy Street is probably my all time favourite Gabriel song. Thank you for the reaction.

Big time is my very favorite Peter Gabriel song, I love it, shock the monkey, Solsbury Hill , love them, great songs, great reaction, love you NicknLex.

What a treat and an amazing recording. So great to watch your faces light up to what is a truly amazing album. I remember being absolutely blown way when I bought this CD. So glad you two sweeties opened up your lives and hearts during COVID. I remember watching some of your early reactions including “In Your Eyes” and when you did Peg you hooked me forever. So delighted this great music in its splendid entirety is now in your life. Big Time is a great reflection on the excesses of the time and translates perfectly to now. Great job. 👏 👏👏👏

I love this album, but was thrown somewhat by the tracklisting change for 'In Your Eyes' and the inclusion of 'This Is the Picture'. I have the original vinyl album, have never needed any other format, and the original has only 8 tracks and finishes with 'We Do What We're Told'. I guess I'm a grumpy, old geezer but 'In Your Eyes' opening side 2 and 'We Do...' closing just feels perfect and right. I would imagine Peter has complete control and authorised the inclusion of 'This Is The Picture' but it doesn't gel with the rest of the album for me, and I think you picked up on that Alexia. Anyway, enough of the moaning.... 'Don't Give Up' (or it's new title 'Cream Me Up') helped me through a very tough time in my life when I was made redundant from my job with my first child on the way. Peter and Kate really guided me through all that. Can I also give a shout out to the unsung hero of this album, and all Peter's other albums and tours to this day, guitarist David Rhodes. Listen to the guitar part on 'Sledgehammer', it's perfect! We all love your Patreon reactions because you are at your most authentic Nick and Alexia, it's in your eyes!

Richard Dobson

Isn't it about time you did a Kate Bush full album reaction? There's the big hit album 'Hounds Of Love' or the more experimental, proggy 'The Dreaming' or the emotional 'The Sensual World'. Any one will do, NicknLex.

Bring back the unboxing…cereal, Amazon packages, your neighbors boxes via porch pirating… We are desperate.

Peter wrote Don’t Give Up for a duet with Dolly Parton. She politely declined Probably a good thing… Larry Klein used to be married to Joni.

What a wonderful reaction to an amazing album. This introduced a lot of people to Peter Gabriel who never even heard of Genesis. A big reason was MTV and their repeated playing of the groundbreaking video for Sledgehammer, which deservedly won every conceivable video award that year. Big Time has a great video too. So glad you remembered Laurie Anderson from Oh Superman, Nick! And very happy this brought back memories of your first video - you’ve come a long way!

Scott Anderson

I forgot to mention that you absolutely have to react to the Sledgehammer and Big Time videos. They are superb. In fact the world might just implode if you fail to react ASAP. 😂😂😂😂😳💣😱

This was fun to listen to this for my first time. I've heard the big hits, but had never listened to the rest of it. I totally respect this stuff as excellent music. I'm just a die-hard prog nut, so when this came out it didn't grab me much. That was based on all the hits from it that I was hearing on the radio. It just doesn't thrill me like music with varied and dramatic beats, rhythms, and melodies. It has too much repetition and regular beats, so I find it kind of boring. I suppose that makes me boring in a way . Ha! I'm glad you two have more broad, diverse taste so you can enjoy this a lot! In 1986 I was still very heavily in to '70s Genesis so, again, this seemed boring. I was busy being washed over with very loud Trick of the Tail, and then there were three..., Selling England by the Pound, Wind & Wuthering, Nursery Cryme, and Foxtrot. Oh, and Peter's previous album Security was even a lot more interesting to me than these radio hits from So. I'm actually liking the deep cuts on this album more than the radio hits. Partially I suppose because I'm tired of the hits...but really these are a bit more proggy and interesting...That Voice Again, Mercy Street, We Do What We're Told, and This is the Picture. Cool. I kind of wondered if that was going to happen as I headed into this experience. Sure enough. I also really got into Peter's subsequent album "Passion". It's like sort of ambient music. I love it, but I haven't listened to it for probably 25 years. I've been writing this while I'm listening. Now I just heard In Your Eyes. Wow! Yeah, that's a fantastic song. I love your style, Lex and Nick. You're so honest and authentic and simply doing what you want to for the right reasons. Thanks! Merry Christmas!

Larry Klein is no slouch he has played on lots of records including Joni Mitchell and he was married to her for a time from 1982 to 1994. Larry is also a Emmy award winning producer. He also played bass on Walter Becker’s Circus Money

Stephen Caruso

it was such a great album then and now with so thoughtful planned out precision every song and note was perfect and Peter used to say that Slegehammer was a ripoff of soul music r+b

Laura Moore

Peter changed my life with this album. Red Rain was always the first song I played on my first and only radio job. Good memories.
