this is my ultimate growing up as a teenager album, every song is my teenage years, God I love this album, one of my all time favorites

David Hess

Lex, you and Nick also reacted to The Cars song, " Touch and Go" another great song

Alden21

This was released the year that I graduated high school, it was a great summer for music.

Alden21

I have a great album that I'd love to see you react to... something is going to be forthcoming.

David Hess

I am going to have to request a Cars marathon, and I have the songs lined up

So glad I settled on this choice, and so happy you enjoyed it as much as I do! I think the second half is genius, and sorry that Spotify separated the songs, which blend together on the album. Band notes: they have similar voices, but Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr traded off on lead vocals and songwriting duties. Ocasek played guitar and Orr played bass. When Orr died at a young age that was essentially the end of the band, except for one comeback album many years later. Elliot Easton was the amazing lead guitarist (Rick Beato devoted an entire episode to his solo on Just What I Needed). Greg Hawkes on keyboards, David Robinson on drums. This album is on most top ten lists of best debut albums of all time!

I graduated college in 1978 and worked that summer in a record store for minimum wage, and spent it all on vinyl. What a year that was for legendary LPs like this one...P.S. It was called New Wave in the U.S. as well...Power Pop is not so much a musical era as a genre label...

JK

Can’t wait, Dave!

I had forgotten how fantastic this album is, and I remember now that side 2 of the LP got played more than side one. LOVE the proggy elements from Orr's influence! Thanks for sharing this with all of us!!!!

Thank you, JK and NicknLex! This was a blast to listen to again and with you. I absolutely love this fantastic album. I was 13 when this came out and I was building my music collection by recording my brother's albums onto cassette tapes. I built a rack in 8th grade shop class that holds 20 tapes. Saved my paper route money and bought a Kenwood amp, a JVC tape deck, and some good speakers, and escaped away into music like this. I always listened to an entire album in one go as the tapes held 45 minutes of music per side. It's hard for me to listen now to albums broken up by streaming services and reactors. The last 4 songs on this album do really flow together for me, even though the first two transitions are abrupt. I think they really fit together beautifully. Have fun listening to this more in the future!

JK I loved this thanks for saving me $$$$$ !!!!! I have loved these guys since I was 20 in 1978 and I really love the songs and I especially love Candy O the next album after this

I must be dumb for a month I tried to figure out how to pay the whole year and i cannot see how to do it

Summer of 1978, one of the great records of that era! Check out the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High for an unforgettable scene with Moving In Stereo as the music. IYKYK

Track #4 on side 1 really had a very clear crisp sound to it, as if it had been separately remastered. It was the same song, but sounded very newish, especially at the beginning. WEIRD.

Eric Meredith

Absolutely loved this from start to finish. The hits I knew but have never heard the entire album! Sure glad that I got to experience it with Nick and Alexia and the community. Amazing! I need to find this on vinyl

Even though there is a tiny pause after You're All I've Got Tonight, they used to play it and Bye Bye Love back to back on rock radio, so it is good to let it keep going there.

David Whiteman

I'd say it's a top 5 debut album, up there with Boston and Van Halen

David Whiteman

You referred to it being power pop and new wave, but it is also considered classic rock, especially the first two Cars albums.

David Whiteman

Bye Bye Love bleeds over to Moving In Stereo too. I think whatever you were playing them on artificially split them up.

Deb

Bye Bye Love is an amazing song, imho.
