My sister Debbie is responsible for introducing me to Kansas, when I was 11 going on 12, a little kid she always had music playing in her bedroom, and when I liked what I heard I would ask her if I could come into her bedroom and listen to the music with her, she'd say as long as I kept quiet I could listen to music with her, so I kept quiet and was introduced to a lot of great music.

This was the first album I ever bought from Kansas. I had heard the title track on the radio. It had me hooked and I bought the whole collection. Loved the reaction!!

Kansas is one of my top three groups and this album is one of my favorites by them…Love this!

What a great reaction to a great album, one of my favorites for sure. (Also one of my favorite bands.) What fantastic taste in music from the person who nominated it and all who voted for it to Nick and Lex who showed that they totally got it. (Also loved the banter from you guys, you have such great personalities!) I was really torn between this one and the Manfred Mann album because it's also one of my favorites and I don't see it reacted to very often, but to me the Kansas album was just too epic to vote against. I saw Kansas in concert in Oklahoma City in 1978 when they were on tour for this album and they were fantastic. The backup band was a very energetic Thin Lizzy who were phenomenal but Kansas stole the show with their next level musicianship and top-notch sound. At this point they had enough great songs in their catalog to put together an awesome show. Also just another quick note--the song "Closet Chronicles" is said to be about reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes and is one of my favorite ones on the album as well.

Ecstatic to see you guys get to your 3rd Kansas album. I'll be eagerly waiting for your 4th. BTW, there's another "hidden figure" that Steve sings about in one of their songs from this album (Howard Hughes)

Thanks, all, for picking this. This is my 2nd favorite Kansas album after Leftoverture. So much fun listening to this and seeing and hearing your reactions, NicknLex. I listened to classic rock radio for 40 years, from '76 to around '16, and I feel like I heard The Spider/Portrait (He Knew) probably about 20 times on there. KZOK and KISW in Seattle and then starting in 2000 it was Eagle 106.5, KEGX, in the Tri-Cities. Great thing about FM radio is that they would play bigger pieces of music than the 3-minute pop song.

I bought Kansas' 1st album in 1973 and loved it and I followed them after that for many years- in Nov 1977 I got to see them live with Nazareth in Wash DC and they played some of these songs in their set ! Point of Know Return and Portrait He Knew were 2 of the songs they played

Thank you for this reaction. The first 5 albums , with the live album, are all classics. I love them all. KANSAS, along with Journey, were road warriors touring between 250 and 300 dates a yr. They were outstanding live, always crisp and on time with instruments. Robbie's and Steve's voices went together like peanut butter and chocolate. Thanks again.
