Hey everyone!

So lately we've realized our Neil Young (Thrasher, link below) video that's up on YouTube since literally the beginning of the channel (coming up on one year!) continues to receive comments and views. With that being said, we'd like to explore more!

I'll leave some popular suggestions based from the comments of that video, but if you'd like to add your own, feel free to leave it in the comments and whoever likes that suggestion, please HEART that one! Whichever gets the most from the poll, or most hearts, will be chosen and reacted to on YouTube (unless blocked)!

Should note that we're hoping to hear another side to the Neil Young we did last time so pretty sure most below are among those, but included Old Man in case you guys REALLY want to hear it!

Link to our Thrasher video (uploaded Jan. 30, 2021): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq2nMwLH4h0

Thanks for everything and for helping us decide!

Love and hope everyone enjoys the rest of this year,

Nick, Lex and Marley

Rockin' in the Free World is a pretty good one as well! :D

Sadly, Neil Young never worked for me, except for a handful of songs, one of which is on your list. I know I’m likely in a minority. I liked CSY and CSNY. Even got to interview Graham Nash, a super nice guy. But Neil was always the outlier for me.

Debra Brabenec

Country Girl is epic! I STRONGLY recommend it! ( The original recording from CSNY's Déja Vu album)

Eric Thompson

Cinnamon Girl is a great song, but it doesn't really give you an accurate picture of Neil Young's style, as it is more of a conventional rock song compared to his folkier material. To get a better picture of what he's about, I recommend anything from the Harvest album.

Ron Swirson

Nick&Lex, I STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend LIVE versions of these songs! If you want to fully experience Neil's other side it has to be experienced with a live version. He is known as the Godfather of Grunge and that side needs to be SEEN and heard live. I STRONGLY suggest this particular video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmKrcOB7udA. The video quality isn't all that great but the audio is AND the performance is just what you need to see and feel. I've seen Neil 3 times and trust me THIS is what your looking for. I think others will agree with me. As always keep up the GREAT work and keep on loving each other. (I have my fingers crossed you'll choose my suggestion, don't deprive yourselves of this.) This is grit to the max! PS: yes I know he has guitar and amp issues at one point in the vid but to me it doesn't matter because Neil rocks on no matter what and THATS rock & roll bad ass .

So many ridiculously good, heartfelt songs. From the album "After the Gold Rush," the title track, "When You Dance I Can Really Love," and "Southern Man." From his Buffalo Springfield days (with Stephen Stills, pre CSNY), "Mr. Soul" and "Broken Arrow." From the album "Harvest," hell, just about anything as @Eric Thompson noted, but I'd recommend "The Needle and the Damage Done."

come together

I'm slightly bummed that "Cortez the Killer" isn't doing better in the poll. Still have my fingers crossed.

Michele

Hey Ron. I agree that you can hear grunge (before there was grunge) in some of his music. Please include the title of the live track you’re nominating because the link isn’t working for me. Thanks ✨🤪 I’ve seen him also (with CSN and solo). I knew roadies so I got to go backstage and even on his bus - there’s a car welded into the roof of the bus!). And I helped volunteer forBridge School concerts. Thanks again and Happy 2022! 🥂✨🤪

Michele

Maybe you mean Powderfinger? ✨🤪

Michele

THE NEEDLE AND THE DAMAGE DONE So hard to choose but Harvest lp is a good follow up. (“Cowgirl in the sand” might be trippy for you. Cinnamon Girl is too short. Country Girl is beautiful. Other tracks rock more but I’d do the Harvest album at this point.) 🤷🏻‍♀️ ✨🤪

Franck Thibault

I choose Cinnamon Girl cause I love Cinnamon? 😉

Michele

Although it’s kinda short also.

Michele

“Down By the River” - it was the first Neil Young song I learned on guitar. ✨🤪

Michele

The Needle and the Damage Done. It’s shorter than I remember though and it’s about a somber subject. But great Neil. ✨🤪

Ron Swirson

Michele always good to hear from you and may I first take a moment to wish you a happy, healthy & prosperous New Year and the time to enjoy it all. As far as the link goes it works for me but here is the title of the vid for you to find on YouTube: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Like A Hurricane - Live 1986

Michele

Ok. Great New Years Day performance. Thanks for that. Speaking of Neil’s Grunge (complete with flannel shirt in this amazing Rock performance) ... Kurt Cobain left Neil Young’s lyrics when he died - it’s better to burn out than fade away? Happy Rockin New Year, Ron. 🔥 🎸

Rudi Becker

I like some of his accoustic stuff and some of his electric. But I also bought some LPs, to which I listened max 2-3 times and never again. If I had to pick favourite LPs, I would say Harvest and American Stars 'n Bars ... Live Rust is also pretty good

Rudi Becker

Hey hey my my (into the black) isthe grungiest (?) song for me :-)

Rudi Becker

Would have been my 2nd choice. But have you ever heard the cover of this song by Grace Potter and Joe Satriani ? Great !

Arthur Marx

In this case, I chose "Cortez the Killer" because I think it's the one of the five that Nick and Lex might enjoy most. Going off the menu, I think I would've recommended "Cowgirl in the Sand."

Greybeard Music Man

From the best in the lineup have to say "Like a Hurricane" Neil's solos will blow your mind. This song has great lyrics, was written in 1975 by Neil and a close friend during a time he couldn't sing because of an operation on his vocal chords.

Greybeard Music Man

Happy New Years MM. I'm like Animal from the Muppets. Woman! Lol! Seriously been a percussionist since junior high, geez we're talking 44 years. Wow! Did I just admit that? Oh well! If Greybeard doesn't give it away. You would be happy to know that Carl Palmer is my hero! Been working on his solo Tank on the debut album for about month now. He was superhuman! But I love driving my self beyond the limits. Have a wonderful month and remember you friend GMM if you win the raffle again, because I don't ever win anything...lol.

Greybeard Music Man

Good choice there Arthur. It's a great track for Nick and Lex.

Michele

Yes, those are the lyrics Cobain left. Thanks, Rudi. 😊

Michele

Hey, GMM. Can’t help you with the raffle - I’m disqualified for awhile to make it fair. Maybe you’ll have a shot. “Like a Hurricane” - I’m getting blown away (especially watching the Live 1986 performance with Crazy Horse that Ron recommended - technical issues but the energy and heart of his performance - wow. Percussionist?!! Some of my favorite people are percussionist, including my husband of 6 years. He’s made a nice career of it - touring, playing and even teaching. I started with piano, then got my first guitar at 16 ... and acquired an LP conga at 18. My passion is greater than my knowledge and skill, but I’ve loved music my whole life. Glad you’re an animal - like Mick says, I’m a Monkey woman too. ✨🤪

Michele

And like Ron S mentioned above: the video of his live performance of “Like a Hurricane” with Crazy Horse 1986 - is everything this girl needs. mind blown. 🤯

Greybeard Music Man

Hey if I want my mind blown or melted I want it to be Neil. Nobody else is allowed near my mind, it's a scary place to be 😵‍💫

Greybeard Music Man

To be at a live venue is like no other. He just has that way of drawing you in and then Bzzzt. Mind blown by a nasty solo, and back off, and blown again until total meltdown. They should warn you when you're 2 rows out. I'm referring to my first experience with Neil live in Chicago on a late summer road trip from St. Louis. 1974 at Chicago Stadium (Soldier Field) and they are live recording that day to complete the live album release later that year. 2nd row center and without warning set blasts into "Ohio", and you know how this track starts, it's over after that you're thiers now. Some jaw dropping there, but it's so real! Haven't been right since then, or was I ever...lol. Just a picture of the initial shock, and by the end your mind is exhausted. Just hard to find right words to describe. Uriah Heep does the same damn thing without warning...lol

Michele

Sounds like Neil made you right! Lol. Great concert memory. Thanks ✨🤪

Great Scott

you have the wrong type of poll selection - this form allows multiple votes, instead of the pick one I think you meant to use (circle instead of square)...

Michele

A live performance on YouTube, perhaps 🤔? ✨🤪

Joss Oakes

I'd LOVE to do a double shot of Neil's River, and the Indigo Girls cover (live, full band) Their passion and virtuosity on this track always blows me away. It's on 1200 Curfews .Cheers !
