Hey everyone!

WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL! Finally decided to go back and listen to this in one full sweep after attempting to do a livestream listen with everyone, we didn't enjoy it to the max and both saved it for a full listen like this. Behold: our 21st full album on Patreon!

We couldn't help but be in awe when we listened to "2112". The album was a true progressive rock masterpiece, and it showcased the incredible talent of the band. Geddy Lee's vocals were powerful and emotive, while Neil Peart's drumming was nothing short of awe-inspiring. The title track, "2112", was a 20-minute-long musical journey that took us on a roller coaster of emotions. It was an album that truly moved us and left us feeling inspired. We feel it is a must-listen for any fans of progressive rock.

And boy, are we fans! 😋

Thank you all for your love and support on this platform; we are truly blessed and appreciate all you do!

Love,

Nick, Lex and Marley

Glad you went back to this. Nick, when you have time, I strongly encourage you to read through the story of "side 1" before you re-listen to the record. I know the influence of Ayn Rand on Neil's lyrics may put some people off, but we're not listening to Rand, we're listening to Neil. Not everything needs to be politically charged; we can simply appreciate this as the remarkable work that it is. (Never saw Rush live, been in Japan since 1984 and I heard a story about a negative experience Neil had here - in the hotel room next to him he heard a man physically abusing a woman, reported it to the desk and nothing was done... apparently that put the band off of ever coming back. That's the story I heard, anyway, I'm sure there's a bit more to it.)

If I were you guys, I would sit on the sofa, watch the animation video on your TV! All the lyrics are there, it’s a 2 for one.

Franck Thibault

I’ve listen to this album many times, but if you were to ask me the names of the songs other than 2112 or Passage to Bangkok, I couldn’t tell you the name or if you gave me the name, I would tell you that I don’t know the songs. But after the first notes, than of course I know them!

Luke D

Nice! Good memories having had the 8-Track playing in my car way back when, over and over again :)

You asked about seeing them live. I've seen many bands that I liked live, but by far they were the best! They put on a show, and you could tell it was for us, the fans. They never wanted to disappoint and they didn't. I saw them 5x, all great.

Thank you guys for doing this album in full. It's the first time I've listened to the whole album for a while, and I really enjoyed it, particularly 'Side 2' or the shorter songs now we are in the digital age! They are often overlooked, but they are great examples of early Rush's brilliant melodies. I have mentioned before in previous comments, but don't mind doing it again, that I only got to see Rush once, in Manchester in 2007. I had arrived back in the UK from South Africa in 2004, and Rush were in the UK the week I returned. I desperately tried to find a ticket but the only gig I could get to, in Birmingham, was sold out. I remember thinking please don't let this be their last UK tour! But it wasn't and the 2007 tour was tremendous. Definitely the best gig I have ever been to, and I have seen Yes, Genesis, ELP, Steely Dan and Led Zeppelin live in their prime mid 70's years! The rapport Rush had with their audience was remarkable, and they just seemed to be enjoying themselves so much. Thanks again xx

Yeah I love Lessons! That's a fun bass part.

Was in a high school basement band Accelerated our skills by learning Rush songs Early stuff Finding My Way, What You're Doing, In The Mood, Workin' Man Anthem, Fly By Night and most if not all of 2112 side 1 Played 2112 live at a High School talent show The guitar player and I shared the vocals On the cassette recording you can hear my Mom say "Are those 3 guys making all that noise?"

Pete Miller

The 2nd side of 2112 is really underrated and overlooked by many. Its songs are amazing as well and some of Rush's best writing, imo. Lessons, Passage To Bangkok and Twilight Zone are my most favorite on that side, but I love them all. I know I've listened to this entire album at least 150 times since it was released. It is one of the Top 5 best Progressive Rock albums of all time, along with Close To The Edge by Yes, Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd, and Trick Of The Tale by Genesis (tho early Genesis fans will insist on Lamb Lies Down album instead). This album is cream of the crop as far as progressive Rock goes.

Pete Miller

I've seen Rush 4 times since 1978. The one bright spot after Neil's passing is that Rush put out quite a few concert videos of tours over the years, so there are always lots of live Rush videos to watch for posterity!

ProgRockFan

Yeah, I noticed that the 1st time you reacted to 2112, your focus was not able to be entirely on the music. So I'm happy you were able to re-listen for us all

Lee Haskin

Thanks for this, guys! I heard this album years ago and remember enjoying it but haven't heard it since. Maybe it was my frame of mind at the time or just where I was in my life, but apparently I didn't get it at the time. But I get it now! I can't believe that song was 20 minutes. Seemed like 4.

I know it has been nearly two years since you made this video, so you may have already learned what I am about to tell you, but in case you haven't, due to your busy live and Rush, as you say, you wish you would get more requests for them, because you guys have come to love them like I do. First, there is a version on DVD/bluray (and Youtube streaming) of the entire 2112 album accompanied by a video graphic novel, that includes a written narration of story information that is not in the lyrics themselves. This was part of the 40th anniversary edition of Rush's remastered 2112. Before this, the addition story narrative was only found on the inside of the original Vinyl LP by-fold record case/cover. It is a must see video version of the album that is a must see for any fan of the album. Second, I am as sad as you guys about never being able to see Rush live, because for the most part, I only discovered rush within the last couple of years, just like you (though I knew of Rush decades ago, but only less than 10 songs that were radio hits in the 70's and 80's), but at least they have some great live performance concert videos so in that way you can see what they were like live at least, if not in person! The best and most consistent live band ever. I can't believe I went for decades knowing of so few songs from such a great band with about 180 song discography! But I always figured those were their only good songs because that was all the radio stations would play from them! Little did I know the true reason was because so many of their songs are far to long for radio stations to play, as they preferred 2-4 minute songs so they could cram a lot in an hour, along ads, to both make more money through advertising as record labels paying them to push and play certain bands and songs more than others, to create an illusion of popularity through repetition, the more a song or band was played, the more the record companies would pay radio stations, basically under the table. Rush was with one of the smaller record companies, Mercury, who didn't have the money to bribe stations like that, so Rush got little air play back in the day! But luckily (only lucky due to Rush) during the pandemic I had a lot of time to get addicted to Youtube and I stumbled upon Rush and decided to dive into them. I'm just glad I didn't live my entire life without discovering the true Rush and their greatness. I was 53/54 when I discovered Rush for real, I'm 56 now, and hope for many more years to listen to them. Unlike you, however, since I don't have a reaction channel, I have been able to listen too everything by them and own 17 of their 20 albums. But no one to share my experience with, and it's nice to see your reactions and share it all with you sort of vicariously. I upgraded my membership to the $5 a month level just today, so I can use that once a month album reaction you offer with the membership. You guys are going to hear the rest of their albums in full over the next year or so, if I have to request them all myself, those that you have not already done, once a month. The first one I request in a personal message to you, after I upgraded, is for Rush's final studio album Clockwork Angels from 2012 called CLOCKWORK ANGELS. You reacted to one song off the album a while ago, called Headlong Flight. Anyway, I have much more about this request in the personal message I sent, so I won't repeat it all here, even though I just wrote a novella for you in this comment! I just thought it was time I introduced myself and a little about my personal history with Rush to show I love them as much as you guys, maybe more since I spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on Rush albums and videos and more over a very short period. I won't live forever and I had a lot of catching up to do.
