Nice outfits can’t wait to watch your reaction.

Michelle

The Thriller album would be a great one to do on here, Michael at his peak. Off the Wall album equally good as well.

JK

Proud to say I know one of the zombies in this video - Vincent Paterson, who choreographed other music videos for Michael Jackson and Madonna. One of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.

Hi guys, I don't have Patreon via my other tag name. but I'm sure a comment here is not the same as on u.t...So..This was sooo good and yes here in England this was on tv. We got a heads up of a Michael Jackson Premier Special, not knowing anything about it. It really was groundbreaking in so many ways leading the way to change music videos forever so they ended up like mini movies crammed into 4-5 minutes usually. The Thriller video was never contravershal about the occult .. It was always .. Michael Jackson Wow !! What an amazing music video, and that dance routine .. people just wanted to learn it. If Social Media had been around you would have had sooo many posts of groups of people doing this dance, I have no doubt. When the video came out I bought it. There is a Making of included. John Landis of course did "American Werewolf In London" and you see him with Michael having all the make up put on, etc. Lots of dance rehearsals. Nick I have no recollection of any remake. You're not thinking of "Bad" music video are you ? Gangs meeting in a parking lot ? This was great fun as I have not seen this in years. Thankyou ! ... Oh & Lex is Catwoman ? Love it !! Byeee Jim X

JK

Bad was set in a subway. Beat It was the one with two gangs in the parking lot. Both are brilliant.

Love it, Thanks guys. I watched this couple time recently and ended up buying Ola Rays's (Michaels GF in this) auto bio. This was ground breaking at the time. Lex= Debbie Harry ?????? Was on MTV frequently. Rick Baker became well known for "American Werewolf in London" back then. Also, when the wolf Michael is chasing the girl it was done in a park in LA. They ran in a circle with the camera in the middle. The house at the end was in LA. One of the days they shot this a white limo pulled up and Jackie Onasis spent the day at the shoot.

Michele

Madonna! Definitely giving Madonna. Love it. 😊💕 And love Thriller. Happy Halloween / Day of the Dead ! 😽

I remember it being on MTV all the time, including the long version with the Vincent price narration. Vincent Price, a classic Hollywood horror movie actor with a very distinctive voice, added some spooky CRED to yawls neighborhood. Are you Blondie aka Debra Harry, or Madonna, or my crazy cat lady aunt Lucy. 🎃

Great reaction, friends ! ✌️❤️☮️

Mike Miner

We definitely had to wait for the long version on MTV! We gathered around the TV with friends to watch it back in the day. Those were good times! Thank you for letting us all "gather around the TV set" to watch this with you during spooky season!

This was a major event when it was released. They hyped it for weeks before the 2 time MTV premier. And yes after those 2 showing it was quite awhile before it was available again. And personally love the choreographed Zombies. (PS, Didn't snow on this side of the Mtns, but dang cold.)

Murdock Moriarty

This was indeed the most expensive music video done at that time, and I think it still ranges as one of the most expensive ones. It was directed by famous hollywood director john landis and featured a voice-over by classic horror actor vincent price.

Next month will be the 40th. anniversary of the VHS release! Can you believe it? In South Africa we couldn't see this at all, so I had to wait until the summer of 1984 when my wife and I visited the UK on holiday. Our first stop was the Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street, London so we could buy the VHS copy of 'The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller'. It had the complete music video plus lots of extras featuring John Landis and Rick Baker on how the movie was shot, how the special effects were done (based on Baker's work on 'American Werewolf in London') and the choreography with Michael Peters. I'm sure my (now ex-) wife still has it somewhere! Incidentally, the song was written by an Englishman, Rod Temperton from the UK funk band Heatwave. Quincy Jones heard his music, liked it and invited him over to collaborate. The rest is history!

The Thriller video was quite the event when it premiered on MTV and set new standards and expectations for music videos. Directed by John Landis (Animal House, American Werewolf in London etc). The girl, Ola Ray, was a Playboy Playmate and appeared in a few movies (Ten to Midnight etc). I had forgotten the narration was done by Vincent Price.

Off the Wall was his best album imo. Peak MJ before it got all weird and crazy....

Thriller has been blocked. What a shocker.....Not.
