I did not intend for this to turn into a blog, I was just going to post the picture. But… here we are 😂

The gym has been kicking my ass, but I would have it no other way.

Well, it’s jiujitsu that’s kicking my ass. Actually… it’s the people in the jiuj… okay you get the point.

(Note: BJJ = Brazilian Jiujitsu)

I’ve been training consistently for about 2.5 years now. I’ve trained overall for about a decade, but I’ve gone on little hiatuses here and there.

The summer before covid hit, I started going to class every day that I was home. When we were in quarantine, a friend and I quarantined together so we had a training partner, bought a couple gymnastics mats on Amazon and drilled in my living room.

I actually just switched gyms in the past couple months and it feels weird. It feels strange leaving my coach that I trained with for over 10 years. I almost feel guilty, but ultimately you have to do what’s best for you, and sometimes you outgrow people and places. I still love my old coach, and I would even like to hop in some classes back at my old gym sometime soon, especially for sparring.

I switched gyms so I could train pure jiujitsu - my old gym is more of an MMA gym - specifically no-gi, and finally be able to be ranked. I’ve technically been a white belt for 10 fucking years! 😂

Aside from the weird feeling of leaving an old team and joining a new one, I do feel really good at this new gym and I’m really looking forward to competing again!

How many of you have ever tried jiujitsu?

It’s something I’d love to try one day, but not something we currently offer.

I only had a few karate classes as a kid & never completed the class.😅😬 So, your commitment to your training is commendable. Hope you accomplish all your goals in your new gym!👍

Unfortunately, fight sports aren't big around here. Even high school wrestling is almost non-existent. So I've never had a chance to get on the mat in any capacity. My best friend is in medical school in another state and she actually started taking jiu-jitsu classes to relax in her spare time.
