Greetings, friends. Checking in from the Dominican Republic!

Marti and I are staying here with her family for over a week. We landed the morning before Hurricane Fiona touched down in the country. We are safe, we have food/water/shelter, and the big part of the storm has passed.

Her mom’s place even has a generator, so for most of the time we’ve had power & wifi.

As of about 9pm last night, the generator went out. 😅 No power here means no wifi, which means I can’t use my phone. Unless I take it off airplane mode and pay, which I just did because I can’t sleep, and I’m otherwise just lying here in the dark sweating my balls off. 😂 (I’m considering switching to T-Mobile like Marti has, just for their international capabilities. Though I’ve had Verizon since I was 16 and have otherwise had zero problems)

I’m also getting my ass WHOOPED by mosquitos. Nobody else in this house is getting bit, they’re just fucking me UP. 🥴 I literally have to wipe myself down - clothes and all - with a repellent wipe before I go to bed. I guess I just got that sweet asssss… HAHAHA… 😐

We drove around the city today. There are a lot of HUGE uprooted trees, a lot of billboards/roofs/etc have collapsed. But most of the flooding in La Romana is already down. This area did not get hit the worst. Punta Cana is one of the areas that got hit hard. We were supposed to stay in a resort there today and tomorrow. We were bringing Marti’s parents because her dad’s birthday is this weekend. That’s definitely not happening, and they weren’t able to move our dates, so now we begin the tooth-and-nail fight with Expedia to get our money back. 🙄

There are other areas in DR that got hit hard, but Puerto Rico got it the worst. Puerto Rico usually gets hit bad because of hurricanes’ trajectory. They get hit first, and the mountains usually weaken the storm to some degree, at least for by the time it gets close to DR. Though this was “only” a category 1 hurricane, (now strengthened to a 2 since it passed DR) it was the first one to actually make landfall in DR in a very long time.

The most important thing is of course that we are all safe. But I will say, I’ve been here two days and it feels like two weeks. 😅

The weather today was actually really nice, so hopefully we continue to have nice days so we can go to the beach later this week. We ventured over to the beach area today but most restaurants were closed due to damage. Marti’s dad has a birthday party planned for Saturday, so hopefully it’s at least nice then.

I was hoping to stream on Tuesday at some point, but it will vary on whether or not we have power, and what we end up doing with her family. Like I had no idea we were going out early today. Marti and I stayed up until like 4 am drinking with her cousin yesterday. Then she had the audacity to wake me up at 9 am to go eat. 😂 And then we were out ALL day. I thought, because of the hurricane, that we would be chilling at the house all day. So, her parents make plans and don’t really keep us in the loop. 😅

I will keep you as posted as I can! I’m also working on a couple of NWA vlogs & I’m hoping to post the first one this week. It’s almost 2 am here now, so I’m gonna go continue to sweat profusely and intensely scratch my legs for the next 6 hours. 🙃

Appreciate the update! Glad the worst of the storm has passed and everyone is ok. Now, hopefully you can start to enjoy more of the vacation. Good luck w/ the mosquitoes, I know they can be a pain in the ass, sometimes even literally!😅
