Weapon (Warhammer), Legendary (Requires Attunement)

A masterwork hammer still glowing with embers of a Great Forge. You gain a +3 bonus to attack rolls made with this magic weapon. This weapon can hold up to 3 charges and deals an extra 1d4 fire damage for every charge it has.

Split. When you hit a nonmagical metal object or a creature either wearing nonmagical metal armor or holding a nonmagical metal shield or weapon, you can reduce the amount of damage dealt to 0 to destroy portions of the object you target (if the object isn’t being worn or carried, a 1-foot cube of it is destroyed).

If the affected object is either metal armor or a metal shield being worn or carried, it takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to the AC it offers. Armor reduced to an AC of 10 or a shield that drops to a +0 bonus is destroyed. If the affected object is a held metal weapon, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to −5, the weapon is destroyed.

Whenever an object is affected by this property, this weapon regains 1 charge.

Weld. While holding this weapon, you can use a bonus action to spend a charge and touch either metal armor or a metal weapon with this weapon. Metal from this weapon welds to the target object for 1 hour, enhancing its usage. If the affected object is either metal armor or a metal shield, it gains an additional +1 bonus to the AC it offers for the duration. If the affected object is a metal weapon, it gains an additional +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls for the duration.

An object cannot be enhanced in this way more than once for the duration, after which the additional welded metal turns to dust and vanishes.

‘Twas once a smith in dark and deep,

Where forge and flame would ne’er sleep;

Without company along,

He harked to steel and song

And bade it, “awaken from thine sleep”
