Gouger (Patreon)

You hear a scraping, like nails against stone. Within your mind you hear a raspy, hungering voice. “Where are they?” Coming into view you see a terrifying sight. From a floating orb of flesh sprout ten lanky arms, grasping wildly and scraping their nails against any surface within reach. Small holes pock the surface of its grayish leathery skin and the center of each palm. The creature does not speak with its finger-lined mouth, but rather wails out in psychic waves that rattle within your head. “Give them to me… your eyes!”

What is more terrifying to a tyrant of eyes than having its precious sight taken away? Such thoughts can incessantly plague a beholder, spilling into their nightmares where reality becomes malleable. Such nightmares are the birthplace of gougers, terrifying hunters of beholders, blindly preying on them to take their eyes for themselves.

Our very first monster, a reimagining of the Gouger from 3e, now with a lot less eyes and a lot more fingers… Shield your eyes, adventurers, literally.
