Hot take: Scream 7 just wasn’t for me—and that’s coming from a huge fan of the franchise. Something about it felt off. The pacing was strange and it felt like we were just jumping from scene to scene. I also didn’t connect with the new characters because we barely spent time with them, so when they died…I didn’t really care. Even the opening deaths felt out of place. In past films, those characters tie into the overall plot in some way, but here it just felt like two random kills. I read they reportedly spent $500k on rewrites after changing direction due to everything that happened with Melissa, which makes the final product even more disappointing. Seeing Sidney and Gale again was cool, but that was about it for me. Sidney’s husband didn’t do much for me, and Chad and Mindy felt underused. Even the bar scene where they’re breaking down suspects felt like they didn’t have much to go on. Huge kudos to Isabel May though—she did her thing with what she was given👌🏾 And don’t even get me started on the killers and their motives. We barely spent time with them, yet they’re behind everything?! I’m still asking “why?” and there are several things that happened that never got addressed. The Stu phone calls didn't do it for me either. I might give it another shot someday, but right now it’s easily my least favorite Scream. It’s also the first one where I checked my watch multiple times because I was ready for it to be over. Side note: Anna Camp said in an interview her character originally had even fewer scenes and lacked depth. She asked for another scene (the one we got with her and Gale, even though it still wasn't what she envisioned) to help flesh it out, and even added the line about her son being “too much like his dad” because the script didn’t acknowledge his death at all. Thankfully, they kept it. She shared this without malice—just her perspective and she bodied that role, btw🔥 She also mentioned that Kevin Williamson offered her the role and she didn’t have to audition, even surprising her, which was pretty cool to know they had their eyes on her.

I’ve found that this movie is more enjoyable on rewatches. I like it more thann scream 4. Which is crazy cause I loved scream four on a first watch but it really went down hill on rewatches. This has done the the opposite. It had some really beautiful shots in it. Kevin Williamson did a great job directing it.
