Regarding the phone-the rep definitely turned it off. Because he chose to do something illegal by taking a photo of the tech, when she returned she was unaware he had turned it back on. He died almost immediately because the cell phone interfaced with the technology he had just had recently installed What we saw was his 0.04 seconds captured electrical synapses of what he feared in his mind, the rest was him basically forgetting who he was because he died but returned to his mother as a ghost. At least that’s how I interpreted the ending.
