Note that when Stefan is self-hating and wallowing and wanting to run away for everyone's good, Damon doesn't shame him or speak condescendingly to him, just has a kind, empathetic heart-to-heart and tries highlight for him that wouldn't be the right choice. Unlike Stefan whenever the tables are turned.

it really highlights how damon views who stefan is at is core and who he is in his heart, whereas damon himself, he knows he can be very self destructive which can be very dangerous, which unfortunately isn’t good for a multitude of reasons. (^op edited initial comment + replies don’t be fooled)

Nope it highlights how inept and deficient Stefan is at truly seeing his brother and loving/supporting him the right way, and that Damon doesn't struggle like that with Stefan

who is damon truly at his core? what exactly is stefan supposed to support him in? they are two different characters with two different views on how they should live life. ofc damon wouldn't struggle viewing stefan any other way. just bc they're related by blood, he isn't gonna give damon a pass, then how would you choose to judge stefan than?
