Patreon's Colossal Blunder (Patreon)

Hey all! I've been told that in the rush to switch billing providers Patreon has screwed up this month's pledges for a lot of people and cancelled their patronage altogether.

"Patreon changed its billing from California to Dublin for this month. So a lot of banks rejected the transactions as possible fraud.
This would be recoverable ... except that Patreon’s systems seem to have automatically wiped all patronage relationships with a bounced transaction!

I seem to be missing any email receipts for last month and this month, but according to my billing history I'm all paid up, and I can see deductions by Patreon from my CC over the last 2 - 3 days. Fingers crossed it all gets to you, let us know if you end up short.

All fine here as far as I can see. For some reason The payment came out in two chunks, but I think the amount is right.

Ah, so the "Did you make this transaction?" text from my card provider wasn't just random security checking.

I had a duplicate on another creator’s payment (they have a different billing date) but my main payment was correct and only came out 1x.

Thanks for the heads-up. Looks like my August payment fired off, and another is scheduled for September. Don't seem to have dropped any patron-ees. I guess I lucked out.

I've had problems before where they double bill my card but they usually fix it after a week or two. 🙄

Perhaps it's an issue with the banks involved? I use PayPal for Patreon payments because my credit union automatically refuses anything that comes in from outside of the US, but it will allow PayPal charges without question so I do any and all international orders/payments through PayPal.

I use PayPal too and haven’t run into any problems as a result. Seems like the key here- and that’s pretty damned stupid on patreon’s part.

Hey I finally restored this after days of trying. They don't seem to be retrying the billing automatically and they only gave me a response of "check with your bank about the fraud request and try again." But for many of my accounts still, it just won't let me make a purchase at all! If I find out anything actionable I'll share it

I had to add a different card and re-subscribe. Very irritating. Patreon's emails said I should just be able to find the transaction and re-try it, but first it was quite difficult to actually find where to do that, and then when I did, it didn't actually work. It would just say "something went wrong". Anyways, I think I finally am re-subscribed now.

It also seems kind of crazy that Patreon is billing the patron for creator separately. Why can't they just batch up my subscriptions and file a single monthly bill? Surely they're wasting money on transaction processing fees this way?
