Actually at the time the English were in Dire times in terms of Naval power. They had just sent their Armada against the Spanish to upset their domination as the Premier Superpower and it got destroyed. Im pretty sure John was like 1 out of 150 or 200 capable navigators left in the entire English kingdom, so that cannon thing to me was a bit main character syndromy but the chain shot (cannonball tied to another cannonball with a chain) scene was so cool it was worth it.
