"Notch, Ring and Scratch have just escaped from the the underworld... what do you do"

Happy Monday! The Skullberus piece is now finished, which means that there's only one werecreature left on our mini list, and that's the Gryphon! โœจ I'm definitely liking this darker direction for this piece, so I'll see about doing something similar for the Gryphon, at least in terms of mood ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ‘

Thanks again for your patience guys! Hope you all enjoy the skulldoggos! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™

My fucking god dude, you're just casually dropping gold like this

Pspspsps

I freaking love the darker approach!! You should definitely do the same for the grypon!! Fantastic work Taran!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

jonny

Oh my garsh, very epic. Love the mood

DerpyDrake

What do you do? You give them scratches ofc! ๐Ÿ‘€

T James

Spooky season came early and im thankfull! Loving the more horror themed characters recently ๐Ÿ–ค

Fang

The colours in this are truly stunning! ๐Ÿคฉ Iโ€™m loving these dogs, their sibling fights probably go crazy tho I just noticed their wrists, is that from being cuffed?

nadie777

Ok, so (from our point of view) left one is the intelligent/focused head, middle one is the one that gets the ideas and likes to do stuff, and third one is the silly/cute one (who is probably also the most dangerous due to being more unpredictable). That's assuming they share more than a couple braincells, and also have somewhat distinct personalities. Do(es) they/he like(s) scratches and snuggling? The non-lethal variety?

zankies87

Im literally Hash rn. Im dying from how awesome and cool this is. Darker theme and aaaaaAAAAAHHHHH (AND WOOO DOGGOOOO)

daitenshi

This is delightfully spooky! Fantastic work! ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ’›

WHAT IS THIIIIISSS??? THIS ART IS DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE SO FAR! (Apart from the Peak, which is adorable) YOU ARE AMAZING AT ART AAAAAAA I CAN'T

Head pats. Each one. Theyโ€™re overdue for some love. Those wrists look busted up! No- hey. No bitting. This is awesome Taran! The technical work is stellar, but what does it for me is the contrast between their menacing nature and the little ๐Ÿซถ their claws make at the bottom. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Itโ€™s also fascinating to see you answer so many questions about shape design, focal point hierarchy, etc almost automatically when making a pieceโ€ฆ probably why even your sketches look like they could pass as finished artwork. When you were up and coming as an artist and building your artistic subject range (drawing canines, felines, dragons, horses, orcs, etc), was it a tedious process identifying your artistic weaknesses and applying yourself to strengthen them? Iโ€™m in the middle of this process myself andโ€ฆ this stuff is hard man ๐Ÿฅน Trying to learn and generalize simple shapes to construct a canine head, for example, AND factor in species-specific traits/proportions is trickyyy. Feels like Iโ€™m upgrading the engine Iโ€™ve been to draw using for years with a BETTER ENGINE (backed by fundamentals) ((science approved)) Itโ€™s a great kind of โ€œhardโ€, but holy Cypress, this is HARD.

TWstacker

Omg can I pat ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘ˆ

Collinsbro45

This fella turned out incredible, what a piece of art! I especially love the little bit of splatter to some of the outlines, it makes him(them?) look extra otherworldly and haunting, so incredibly cool!

Woo! Thanks Raz! Thatโ€™s the plan! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ”ฅ

Letโ€™s hope thatโ€™ll be enough ๐Ÿ‘€

Pspspsps

Yo welcome Taran! And Yay!^^โœจ

tfiddlerart

Thanks Fang! For sure ๐Ÿ˜‚ Yup! The idea is that he was imprisoned in a secret facility called โ€œthe Underworldโ€ where they were performing experiments on him, and heโ€™s now escaped!

tfiddlerart

I think thatโ€™s yet to be tested ๐Ÿ˜‚

tfiddlerart

aWOOO! Glad you like him bud! ๐Ÿ˜‚

tfiddlerart

If youโ€™re unafraid, sure ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Thanks Em! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ And to answer your question, itโ€™s kind of a yes and no. Yes, in the sense that I could tell that there was something off with a piece Iโ€™d done. (If it was really bad, usually pretty soon after ๐Ÿ˜‚) But at the same time, I would say โ€œNoโ€ because I couldnโ€™t always pin point what was bothering me specifically. For those situations I usually looked for pieces or photos (basically reference material) where I thought there were some elements that were similar to what I was looking for in my own piece, and then I would mentally pick apart my piece in an analytical way. Then Iโ€™d try to apply that to new pieces. And sometimes those pieces would be scrapped, or end up as just โ€œpracticeโ€ but ultimately it did allow me to improve slowly. (I still do this btw) ๐Ÿ˜‚ Another thing Iโ€™d look out for, is when working on a piece, if a certain area felt way more difficult to work on than other areas, and I needed many references to try to work it out, and even then I still maybe felt shaky on the details, then Iโ€™d know that thatโ€™s a problem area. I think the important thing to remember though is that learning a lot of this stuff takes time, and it would be really easy to burn yourself out trying to learn everything at once. It also takes an understanding that no matter how โ€œgoodโ€ you get, youโ€™re basically always a student trying to learn new stuff ๐Ÿ˜‚ What I do is tend to pick things that I know I have an issue with and then try to incorporate learning that thing into future pieces. Just as a specific example, I had such a lapse in knowledge in drawing poses with arms raised, that when I actually went to do it, I had very little faith in what I was doing ๐Ÿ˜‚ So in future pieces I started to do a lot of poses where one or both arms were up on the character. (If you go back through my art, youโ€™ll probably see the point where I started doing it WAY more often ๐Ÿ˜‚) But yeah, just stay patient, and have fun with the learning so that you want to keep going back to it ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

tfiddlerart

WOO THANKS BUD! Yup, this is a similar vibe to what Iโ€™d like to do, more or less ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hash

Thatโ€™ll be perfect Iโ€™m super excited and itโ€™ll be the best ever WOO ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Atrucian

Amazing and beautiful piece! I particularly love the work on textures and the light! Are they burns on his wrists? Or maybe exposed flesh? He might be a fiend but his hands give away a crave for love! ๐Ÿซถ Let's send some! โค๏ธ

Hariken

Crazy artwork, i knew skullberus was going to be epic

Ezekiel Huerta

I'd be moody too if I had to share my dick with my two brothers.

TWstacker

My only concern is how to pet three heads with two hands ๐Ÿ˜”

FraJuh

Theyโ€™re soo cute ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Nightwolfs123

This is definitely a huge favorite of mine (but I'm biased cuz I do love big monsters and skull heads.) He's just one big good boy who had spend a little too long guarding the gates. Probably just needs to hangout for a while. I do love seeing the way the sketch begins and how it progresses through adding details and coloring. I've been meaning to learn a lot myself as a true newbie and beginner of the arts by drawing on paper first, and it helps seeing other works.

nadie777

Oh... Oh no... He needs lots of cuddles, snacks and love! * Approaches with a duck plushie and cookies disregarding potential/likely risks *

Fang

High risk high reward

Eden Sanders

If my head was also a skull, my JAW would have dropped to the floor. SUPER incredible work!!

Em :)

Very earnest and insightful. Thank you. Iโ€™ll keep your practices in mind and apply them to my work! I look forward to sharing it. ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ ๐Ÿซถ
