we need to talk (update) (Patreon)

Due to recent unpleasant discoveries about certain individuals who are posting my content elsewhere, I will have to take drastic security measures to prevent such situations.

here it is important that you comment and let me know what you think, as these will be drastic changes for the channel.

the main changes are as follows:

-all videos will be posted on MEGA and the link and password will be passed through the patreon community chat available on the phone application.

-there will no longer be exclusive illustrations on patreon, instead everything will be uploaded on social networks, but only you can decide which characters or ideas will be illustrated.

-if you do not agree with the above change, exclusive artwork may still be available but will be sent privately to each active patron.

-there will be three new levels of patreon directed to commissions, each level will have limited quotas (to control the workload) and depending on the patrons that have subscribed I will contact them privately and they will have priority.

-what good is the server if the content will no longer be published there? all the WIPs of each illustration will continue to be uploaded and we will maintain a more fluid communication.

-there is a "free" level on patreon, nothing will be published for free and it may also be the reason why many cannot access the discord server.

please comment on any suggestions, opinions or questions you may have about these changes.

I am open to make changes or adjustments to these changes, in case there is no comment I will make these changes and I will assume that everyone agrees.

I'm sorry to hear that people are still leaking your Patreon exclusive content. Maybe for the videos, you could either send the passwords to patrons in dms on Patreon, or post the passwords in a discord channel that only patrons can access?

talking specifically about the videos, they would be uploaded only in Vimeo because there you can't share the information so easily, besides that it has more security options.

only the illustrations would have this option to be sent privately on patreon in case they do not want to be published in public.

Ah, okay. I've never used Vimeo, so I'm not familiar with the security options it has. I hope it works out for you.

what about a google-drive link or mega link to a video archive and / or picture archive with a password that only patreons have? (i like to have videos / pictures that I like on my hard drive instead of a videoplattform because to many videos i liked got taken down on youtube etc. over the years / months / days like music videos etc. for example)

mmm interesting, I will do more tests on that, please join the patreon community channel to do more tests. although honestly the idea was not to download the content, but I will trust that they will not publish it anywhere else.

The biggest issue that comes up with this is that, unfortunately even on Vimeo they can still be ripped off from there. I've seen many of the creators I support on Patreon, their exclusive videos being posted or distributed on other video platforms. Essentially, it's a big issue with no easy answer. Even with Mega password protected downloads or google drive archives, it's difficult to totally lock it down if that makes sense. Normally, they take copyright actions against the offenders.

you are absolutely right and i am aware of it, but i don't want to take such exaggerated measures. anyway, i know how certain things that they use to steal work, so i will do some tests in the community channel.

Others have pointed out unfortunately artists can’t prevent it completely but I have used the MEGA app that is encrypted as a means to distribute content. The artist will send their subscribers the encryption key and the users then get to access the content, similar to Vimeo but now you know each person you have sent the link to. It allows you to post a teaser publicly and subs get the full thing. Sorry you have to deal with this, at least you are not alone dealing with it. Whatever you decide is up to you, know that despite dishonest people, there are always way more who will gladly support you on here (or whoever you choose to post stuff)

Also with Mega and other similar ways of sending out the link , you get to do it automated via the email system on here (or wherever). But it’s easy to rip content from any source, I’d choose whatever is most convenient for you and your fans! Also reporting content as copyrighted on places you find it on will get it taken down fast.

I have seen a lot of patreon content creators use Discord. Which is in my personal opinion. A horrible and frustrating decision. I'm not trying to come down on you as you have to deal with this, but my feelings is this. I support you here, on patreon. I get frustrated when things get moved to discord, for viewing and have to add that server to my list. Just to see the things the creators here on patreon are making. There are ways around everything Hun. Even loyal fans has a backdoor to download content that has been purchased. My only suggestion is to add a watermark to identify your work. So in the future when someone lets you know they have some of you work on another site. Having it watermarked will make having it removed easier. Discord has no security what-so-ever. I agree with the above posts. Use Mega so only paying members get access. You can kinda deduce who might be posting your stuff elsewhere by process of elimination. Not fool proof, but it is better than nothing.

it is true that many have struggled with the discord server, and it affects me because I like to provide a good service as a content creator, I am currently using patreon chats but unfortunately those chats are only available for the phone application, soon in browser. I have made tests and at the moment the videos are already available in mega, at least some tests. I'm still to see what I'll do with the illustrations.

I don't mind the changes for the illustrations. Patrons still have the opportunity to suggest characters and ideas for you to draw.
