"Songbird" solo show debut, please share

This week, I will present my new show "Songbird" at the Hawaii outpost of the Blue Note, a legendary jazz venue that has hosted so many musicians I admire. Preparing this show has been quite consuming, and also illuminating. I'm revisiting songs from my earlier "pre-ukulele" albums, and I have the opportunity to play guitar, piano, and ukulele in this show. Sometimes, in order to move forward, you need to look back. "Songbird" is a celebration of the songs that made me who I am, as a writer, as a singer, as a human. ❤️

If you are in Hawaii or know folks in Oahu, please take a minute to share this show with your friends. Check out the show trailer on YouTube, or Instagram, or Facebook, or TikTok and hit the share button! Look forward to seeing some Patrons at the Blue Note on August 8th!

I haven't sent out any details yet, but interested folks have been sharing ideas over in our dedicated 10th Anniversary Hawaii Celebration Community Chat and in or our private Patron-only Facebook group. If you have a question or want to reach out and find travel and rooming buddies, you can use these chats. I will create a longer doc or post to address the FAQs. Patron events will center in the Waikiki area, but some of the free ukulele activities like factory tours will require travel, so carpooling and Uber-pooling is encouraged! After the Blue Note show, I will dedicate time to sharing Hawaii plans and tourist info!

📌📣 Community Bulletin Board via comments: Feel free to use the comments section in this monthly check-in as a Bulletin Board for all things uke or Patreon.  Events, announcements, invitations, questions, requests, suggestions -- all are fair game.  We can also use the Chats in the Patreon App, and I'm open to using them for discussion in any way that benefits Patrons.

Thanks for reading, for being here, for supporting my journey and for sharing yours.

Special note for new Patrons

If you're new, I invite you to take some time to get to know the platform - there's a lot here, and it may take a while to navigate the many lessons and posts.  The community WelcomeGuide/FAQ post is a good place to start.

To find a specific song or lesson, learn to use the Cynthia Lin Song Index spreadsheet.  Thank you to the Community Managers for creating and maintaining this helpful resource.

Please introduce yourself in the comments: I'd love to hear how long you've been playing, what kind of uke you play, if you have a group to play with, what songs you've been working on, or anything else you'd like to share.

If you have questions about Patreon, I encourage you to post your questions in the comments below or to one of our Community groups. Our community has tons of friendly folks who love sharing their uke experience. Join our Patron-only Facebook group (be sure to answer BOTH membership questions).

Seasoned Patrons, I always appreciate it when you help me answer any newbie questions in the comments of this or any post.  Thank you! Feel free to post your questions in the comments as well.

Silvia

Hi Cynthia, hi everyone! I recently became a patron and am only now introducing myself. I live in Cambridge, UK, and started learning to play the ukulele a few days before Christmas last year. I'm new to everything and, while I'm learning the basics on a book for kids, it's incredibly useful to watch how chords are formed and how to change between them. I came across Cynthia's YouTube channel, and finally decided to subscribe the her lessons because I like her style and love her beautiful voice. Mine is a left-handed concert ukulele, which I'm enjoying very much. I'm keeping a diary of my progress on my blog: https://silviamaggidesign.com/music/ukulele-diary-1/ Looking forward to learning more! Silvia

Charrissa Lin

cynthia lorence

Closer to Fine by Indigo Girls or Blue and Borderlined by Cynthia Lin

Cynthia Lin

hi maryanne, yes it is. please check the email you used for buying tickets, it would have been sent there

Mary Ewing

Jungle, by Electric Light Orchestra. Or Hold on Tight (by ELO)... the first one would be more fun to play but the second one is kind of motivational.

Heather

I know this is a little late, but I was listening to, Always a Woman to Me, by Billy Joel and thought how great a Uke song it would be.

Reddie cain

Reddie here from Australia 👋. I’m new to this group but have been following Cynthia for years and met her when she was in Aus - once when she had voice! I’ve been part of Janine Shearer’s LIGHTLY STRUNG ORCHESTRA, sadly she has retired, so I look forward to being involved learning from Cynthia. A song suggestion THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC. Oi Oi Oi. 🦘🦘

Thomas Mountain

Tom from Vancouver Island. New to this as well as Facebook. Finding my way around. Have been working at ukulele now for about a year. Join a small seniors group who are all beginners. Unfortunately our first performance was on same day and time as the Christmas play along.
