Aloha Patrons!

Updating our song selection

We've had votes for lots of classic songs (most of our Patron choices from last year were written in the 60s and 70s), and while I love the classics, I'd also like to make sure that as a group we account for a wider demographic (ie younger folks who don't know the songs from the 60s and 70s).  Newer songs will also be more popular as YouTube tutorials.

So this month, I'd like to focus our vote towards songs from the 80s or after. I'm excited to have a fresh(er) selection of options this month, and I happen to love the 80s.  Several of these songs are in my Uke Social packet and don't have tutorials yet.  Please write-in with one song written in 1980 or later.

And for next month's vote, we'll focus on songs from this millennium!  If you don't know any recent songs, then sit back and let other Patrons suggest songs.  You may learn about some awesome new songs. :) Remember to click the heart for other people's song suggestions to upvote. Comments with the most upvotes will be part of next month's vote.

HOW TO VOTE

1. vote for as many of the checkbox song choices as you like below- multiple votes allowed. please note- as soon as you tick the checkbox, the vote is counted. (you can look at the ticker on the right!  sometimes the ticking doesn't work on certain devices - in this case, try your laptop or desktop vs mobile)

2. in addition, you can comment below with one song that you’d want for next month's tutorial. this will help with song choices for future votes. and you can upvote other people’s song choices as well by clicking the heart on their comment.  upvotes are an easy way to double your voting power!  only your first comment will count, so please just one song suggestion per person.

Voting closes Sunday 2/11 at 11:59PM Pacific Time. I’ll announce the winner Monday, and I’ll post the chord chart before the monthly Live Lesson on Thurs 2/15.

Thank you, and happy voting!

xo cynthia.

Hmmm. 80s or later? I’d love Cynthia’s take on The Promise, by When In Rome

Cynthia Lin

ukulenny has a great version of this, but the Eagles' lawyers take down every Eagles video! we'd have to find a way to teach it that's not on YouTube

Babs Quincy

I and Love and You -Avett Brothers

James Houston (Jim)

I migt be a geezer, but I was getting tired of the"Older" songs,, Kudos fo you Cynthia for wanting to bring us into more recent territory. I was going to give my vote to a fun song entitled "I don't look good naked anymore" (really, and it isn't dirty) by the Snake oil Willie band.

James Houston (Jim)

I give my real vote to "Addicted to Love," Robert Palmer

Don Thuan

Faith by George Michael

I would like to add "May We Never Have to Say Goodbye" by Shaun Davey(2003). Precious little chance it makes the list, but a great song about accepting challenges and coming together. Written for the 2003 Dublin Special Olympics and performed by Rita Connolly, Ronan Tynan and six Dublin choirs.

Joshua Green

Can someone please clarify whether we get to write in an 80's song, a song from 200 and later, or both? If I am allowed an 80's song in addition to the 2000+ song, I nominate True Colors. It needs to get over the top at last!

Cynthia Lin

yeah the whole 80s vs millennium selections got all mixed up, so comment away and we’ll sort it out next month :).

You gotta have Billy Jean Michael Jackson's bombshell hit

Jenny Selig

It's such a satisfying song, and there's a great chord sheet out there, but it's always awesome to have a Cynthia arrangement and tutorial.

Maggie

I’m currently trying to work through this song by myself with a fingerpicking! It’s hard and it’s challenging me Bc I don’t really feel qualified to make a version for myself.... but I lOVE this song so much!!!!

Maggie
